How Many Grams Of Sugar Daily

Just curious what a good target for grams of sugar a day. I know it would be different for everyone. I average 20-40 grams all from fruits and vegetables (naturally occurring) and very little from anything else. Just wondering if upping it would help energy levels.

Are you exercising, and if so, do you eat enough to fuel your workouts?
Are you getting enough sleep? Do you eat an adequate amount of protein and fat and enough hydration?
I only ask because a lot of factors can play into your energy levels, and varying your sugar intake one way or the other probably won't make much difference if you're otherwise eating enough overall and eating a balanced and varied diet.
As for a specific target for sugar in grams, I'm in the camp that as long as you're getting adequate nutrition and staying within your calorie goals, and as long as you're not a diabetic, sugar itself doesn't really matter. Many of us don't even track sugar intake, because if you're already tracking carbohydrates, it's kind of redundant.
You can up it or stick with MFP's suggestions (which are on the low side, IMO, because I love ice cream and I'll be darned if some stupid app is going to yell at me for eating ice cream), but I think you'll find as long as you're sticking to your goals it won't really matter.
If you have low energy and it's impacting your quality of life, and you're otherwise getting enough sleep and nutrition, maybe talk to your doctor and see if there's an underlying cause.5 -
I don't even track mine.
Sugar alone won't cause weight gain or stall any weight loss. Excess calories do that.
I have no medical conditions so sugar is irrelevant to me being I already track carbs.10 -

Love it! Feel like I was so strict for so long that now that I have reached my goal I need an adjustment. Sick of so many restrictions and ready to eat what I love within reason. I think 1700 calories is not enough to fuel my workouts and daily life.1 -

Back when I was first really successfully losing weight (2015), I realized MFP said I was eating 60-80g of sugar every day - way over the default goal - when most days the only added sugar I was eating was a tiny bit of concentrated fruit juice well down the ingredient list in a single 30-calorie tablespoon of all-fruit spread. The rest of the sugar was from whole fruit, veggies, and no-sugar-added dairy. I was hitting my (thoughtfully selected) protein and fat goals - pretty high protein, moderate fats, and sticking to my calorie goal. With this realization, I stopped tracking sugar on MFP, and tracked fiber instead. Problem solved.8

As little as possible.10

Is there a medical reason you're watching your sugar?1 -
I eat a lot of fruit. MFP is often telling me I am over the default goal for sugar. I just ignore the message and don't bother tracking it.2

The American Heart Association recommends no more than half your discretionary calories from added sugars. For most women that would be 100 calories, for men 150.

I don't track sugar. I am aiming at NO added sugar - simply the sugar that comes naturally in fruits/veggies etc.5

I track fiber instead of sugar.1 -
If you eat fruit and veg tracking sugar goes out of the window. I am always over on sugar so don't let it bother me.0
