To lose weight, you just need a calorie deficit.

To be able to be in a calorie deficit for any length or time, it's advisable (possibly necessary) to stop demonizing foods, food groups and nutrients, get balanced, neutral and complete information, and use critical thinking.

. Just one more question if that's ok ? Does the type of food you eat have an effect on the type of weight you loose ? I.e., if I ate low carb would my arms be slimmer ? Or is it just purely calorie deficit ?

Carbs don't cause you to gain weight. I think you need to go back and read the stickies because you are misunderstood.

Never worry about asking questions, that how we learn.

Nope, you cannot spot point weight loss. If you see anything that claims that they can, it's definitely BS. Deficit is all that matters. Ignoring all other nutritional effects, you will lose weight exactly the same by eating 100kcals less of fried bread than if you ate 100kcals less of kale. Where weight loss occurs is all down to genetics. Personally I lose weight first in my arms, and I lose very very little in my thighs.

The different diet methods are all down to what works for you. Many people like a low carb diet, as they feel they can eat quite a large quantity of less calorie dense food for the same amount of calories as they would if they were eating carbohydrates. Personally I don't like low carb because I do not feel satisfied with lower carbs, so I eat less other food to make up for it. As long as you stick to the calorie goal, it doesn't really matter how you get those calories. What matters is using a plan that works for you, makes you feel satisfied with what you're eating, and keeps you under your calorie goal

a lot of people claim to feel slimmer on low carb as you lose water weight quickly.

Absolutely! I love carbs and "unhealthy" foods. So far I'm down about 180lbs.

Also, as far as "healthy" vs "unhealthy" goes: once you've eating an overall healthy daily diet, you don't get bonus points for extra healthy. Unless you are allergic to, have an intolerance for, or other medical issue regarding certain foods, there are no bad foods.

Nope. You cannot spot reduce fat. Not with foods, not with exercise. Your body decides where it's going to use the excess fat from in order to fuel your body while eating at a deficit. Except through surgical means, we have no control over where we lose fat from first or last.
