Hello everyone,

I have a nice squat/power rack in my home gym and am looking for a good well rounded app to get lean and strong. (I track my cardio separate).

Any good suggestions for simple programs? I have been using 5x5 stronglifts and LOVE the simplicity and ease of the app. But hoping for more toning with the same type of ease.

Love to hear what you use!

TIA
Angela

Why wouldn't you stick with Stronglifts?

IMO, stronglifts is just "OK" as a program. I can see where the app is a plus, though. I've seen a growing number of women lifters here really digging the StrongCurves workout by Brett Contreras. I think it would fit the requirement of "more toning".

I don't know of an app specific for this workout but there's this thread on r/StrongCurves discussing apps and it appears there's templates on at least one app.

Toning is merely dropping bodyfat to see the muscles.

    If any to be seen.

Which lifting can help cause there to be some.

But if no diet to cause the fat loss (if there is some hiding it), then doesn't matter.

Just wanted to clarify the normally incorrect usage of "toning" thrown around.

App called Fitnotes (for Android, maybe Apple too), allows creating any type workout based on an actual lifting program - which you'll want. Put in sets, rests, reps, weight, timer, ect.

Just making something up because an app happens to list all possible workouts isn't useful unless you really know what you are doing.

So use this when ready to move beyond SL5X5.

Some may even have their own app like SL5x5 does. But even if not, Setup that Fitnotes and it's nice for during workout, and tracking progress. Even giving means to convert weight per rep amounts or % of 1RM.

Awesome, thanks! I will definitely check all those out. I just felt I wasn't getting a whole body strengthening experience with 5x5. I have put a good diet in place, now just looking to get my routine in order. I am a sucker for tracking, so I love the idea of Fitnotes and I will definitely look into StrongCurves!

Not to highjack the thread but my perception was that "toning" was usually meant in the context of gaining muscle in an area. FWIW I find the use the term to be loathesome; building muscle and losing fat should be enough of a descriptor of goals. Regardless, I'd like any clarification if my assumption of the meaning was incorrect.

Really?!? I did SLs for 14 months and worked up to a 315 lb deadlift. It was definitely a "whole body strengthening experience" for me.
