Cheat days or excuses

I am a firm believer that “cheat meals” are necessary. Personally for me they cut down on a lot of cravings. In the same breath I feel it is an excuse because there are major healthy recipes that substitute just about every “unhealthy recipe” BUT nothing like that favorite brownie or favorite scoop of ice cream 😩😩 What do you think are cheat days necessary or an excuse to eat unhealthy?

I think that sometimes you just have to live a little.2

I agree the strict regimen makes me not want to eat healthy😞I definitely support cheat days0

i have never had a cheat day, so i don't think they are necessary.
i fit things like ice cream or brownies into my daily or weekly calories.2 -
Same! I do a cheat meal and indulge in my favorite dessert or high calorie breakfast I typically stay within my calorie goal1

stop thinking of things as healthy or unhealthy and then you're not 'cheating' on anything. eating a brownie doesn't negate the nutritional value of everything else you've eaten that day?2

It not providing the nutritious value🤷🏾♀️1 -
Choose to eat maintenance or below and being flexible on calorie choices is not cheating.
Call your cheat day something else and planning for it is not cheating.4 -

If you do CICO properly then there is no such thing as a cheat meal/day because you eat what you want when you want. Everything in moderation.5

So following just CICO do you think you can make your body look exactly how you want? Using the extreme weight loss caloric intake of 1200 calories per day, and seeing an egg muffin is approximately 300 calories, do you think having 4 egg mcmuffins per day will build the body you want? Do you think that just losing weight is healthy? CICO is good but also can be dangerous if that is your only mantra. Basically anorexia is also based on this as well. It's just as important what you put in your body as to how much. So yes, there can be varying degrees of "cheating" if you decide to go over your usual daily caloric intake, or choose to disregard macro requirements for the day.7 -
I have done away with the whole idea of cheat meals and days. In my past efforts I have tried that and it always just lead to a downhill slope. Because I would realize that what I was going, but cutting out all of my indulgences, was not a realistic way for me to live the rest of my life and I would give up. Now, I just allow myself to have what ever I want, maybe just less of it. I wanted pizza with my family the other night, so I had one slice and a salad instead of eating half a large pizza. I wanted to pig out in 4th of July, so I ate very very light through the day so I could enjoy all the bbq. Now, I am still loosing weight consistently, but I don’t feel like I am depriving myself.2

But it makes you happy, and you enjoy it.... There's more to good health than eating nutritious food.3 -
I’m eating pizza with real crust, not the cauliflower alternative.2

Why does everyone feel the need to take my comments, twist them around and then misinterpret what I said? Do I think you can LOSE WEIGHT eating 4 egg mc muffins per day? Yes, provided 1200cal/day is less than what you need to eat per day. Now do I think it's healthy? Not at all but this is where the last sentence of my comment comes in EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. You want to spend a day eating egg mcmuffins all day, go for it, as long as that's not ALL you're eating day in and day out. My comment was in the spirit of answering the OP's original question which was about cheat days, not nutrition, not macros and not exercise.5 -

Exactly! Everything in moderation and less calories in than out and you lose weight, it's simple.3 -

I believe a cheat day is defined by nutrition macros and calories not the taste of food. You can eat "bad" food and still be eating within the parameters of a healthy diet. However should you disregard nutrition and macros, that could be considered a "cheat" day regardless what you eat.2 -

It’s working for me right now. I think if I were at a point where I was trying to really tweak my body or something like that maybe it would be different. At this point though, my goal is to lose weight and have a more “average” or “normal” body, not to be a fitness model. Personally, I have looked at a macros a little and to be honest I find it very overwhelming. I think it would be too much for me at this point in my journey. Maybe later on I will want to push myself harder. For now, I’m looking for a sustainable lifestyle. It seems for me that’s CICO and moderation.3 -

I do this too.1 -
Necessary.
While I fit a lot of treats in my daily calories, at 1300 I can't fit in a big splurge in my weekly goal. I am a very hungry girl and i can't sacrifice 100-200 calories over many days without things going bad overall :P And I deserve to have a real 600 calorie splurge here and there (fish and chips here i come! or poutine. Mac and cheese! Or hell, TWO beers!)
However, these are certainly not weekly. monthly at best.1 -
Cheat days a.k.a PMS1
