The Star Thrower by Loren Eiseley
One of America's best writers and thinkers on nature and the history of human development.
The Immense Journey is probably his best book, but The Night Country is the most thought provoking for me.
Give him a read, you won't be sorry.0 -
I was reading “A Brief History of Everything” by Bill Bryson but I kind of got into a Stephen King kick thanks to the new “It” film. Currently I’m reading his book “Insomnia” after having just finished “Pet Sematary”. I also re-read “The Hobbit” and “LOTR” earlier this year.1

I am about halfway through I Am Number Four. It was recommended to me, and I didn't expect to like it. I am completely hooked though.

Apologies for the double post, two separate thoughts.
I finished a self-published book (a friend of a friend of my sister’s) and the results were... uneven. I wished a heavier editing hand had helped guide the writer more, or recommended scrapping it and starting over...
At the risk of derailing this thread, what is everyone’s experience with self-published books?0 -
I hit a wall.
I got halfway through my last book and completely lost interest, put the book down for a bit and now I'm reading it again.
The Obsidian Chamber by

Just finished My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan (SO good--cried at the end) and moving on to Nation by Terry Pratchett and Lord of the Flies (the two books I assigned to my 8th graders for summer reading--clearly I have read them before but need to refresh--I read Lord of the Flies literally every summer). Also have When Life gives you Lululemons on deck--by the same author as The Devil Wears Prada.1
