Hi everyone! I’m new to MFP. I’m also a recent weight watchers dropout. For some reason I couldn’t get the plan to work for me, and after 5 months of trying and getting nowhere, I decided to try this. I have 46 pounds to lose, I’m nervous I won’t see results since I just experienced that with WW.
Any advice for me?

Log everything u eat and exercise. Calories in calories burned-simple. Good luck.

Hey Kim! My mom and I experienced the same when we tried WW. It's too easy to cheat on the plan. And I love my mom, but she needs more rules than I do when it comes to her diet.
I'm using MFP since 2016 and lost 48kg/almost 106 lbs so far. For me it works. It's pretty easy for obese people to lose weight and now that I'm 'just overweight' it's getting harder but ... yeah, never give up. My advice: if you cook on a regular basis, definetly save your recipes.
I have like 30 recipes I can choose from (still adding more, keep it rich in variety and even healthy food won't get boring), always know what I'm gonna cook, even if I have only 500 cals left for the day. And of course you can change the recipes and the calorie-count changes automatically.
Try a new food/recipe every few weeks.
My mom's trying keto btw since january and lost a few pounds but I love all the high-carb veggies too much.
Calories in/calories out is my way of losing weight. Hope you see results pretty soon this time.14 -

Welcome to MFP, Kim! I've never tried WW (too expensive), but I can guarantee, that MFP will work for you, if you are honest to yourself. Log everything you eat and drink (besides water), and I mean EVERYTHING, if at all possible. Also, and I can't emphazise this enough: weigh your food. Weigh every single item. Sounds complicated but really isn't. It will make an enormous difference, because we're all usually really bad at guessing the weight of food items or portion sizes. If you burn more than you consume, you WILL lose weight.

Welcome, I have been successful on WW along time ago. But when I went back to them, once I knew I was a diabetic and wanted to rejoin, to say they were less than welcoming was an understatement. Way too many issues, with their point system. So I never rejoined. I have lots to lose and have found MFP very easy to plug info into and use.2

Hi. I just switched back to MFP from a successful WW plan (<20#!) I like tracking, and MFP is better at it than WW because there are more options and less guessing (thanks to member's input), and it's free! Much success to you.2

Nothing to be nervous about. Don't be scared. Be prepared. You probably already have a food scale and books with calorie counts. You can use the calorie app here, too. Start tracking and pay as you go. Don't wait until the end of the day to tally it up.2

Me! i just joined MFP afer 5 months on FS WW really just loosing and gaining the same lbs.. super discouraging when you are following to the T, i have about 20 to loose, im concentrating on Fittness and Health of course watching what i eat, but im really trying to figure macros, how much of everything? any advise
im into healthy whole foods, some treats on sat or sun. but i just found WW was too wide of variety as long as you counted the points,, not that healthy, and too much fake foods. Any suggestions;-)1 -
I've done WW both when I was young and after having a baby. Their eating advice doesn't make sense for me. It seems like they've increased the available points over the years so much that I can't lose weight anymore following their program at my height and age. The meetings and weekly weighing can be good for accountability, but MFP offers a much more robust database and tracking. When I've been most successful, I tracked everything in MFP, followed my own eating plan (based on MFP guidelines, but further constrained with some specifics that work for me), and attended the WW meetings. I can't lose weight following the WW eating plan, but can lose by restricting calories and tracking on MFP.
Best of luck to you! I really think it takes some experimentation to figure out a plan that you can live with and still lose weight. Once we muddle through that, it will be way better than anything WW could tell us to do.5 -

Good luck with this app. I am on ww lost 5 pounds so far... Second week in. This is a great app. I lost three pounds with this mfp in the first week. As long as you are honest and log everything. Self control is the main key. It all depends on how bad you want it. Fifteen pounds left to go here. Oh fyi exercise is also key. Gym three times a week here and cardio at home while not at the gym.2

I am also a weight watchers drop out... it was harder to stick with even giving the 200 point free food, which I found to be mostly beans! Haha.5

GM! Welcome to MFP. I’ve never used WW but I have had success using calorie counting/deficit methods. MFP helps me stay accountable. You can choose to engage in the community boards if you want, as much or as little as you’d like and add friends for extra motivation. Logging all food and exercise helps you understand your eating and exercise habits better, this way you can make changes to help you achieve your goals. Good luck!0

I used weight watchers a few years back and it worked great, then they changed the point system and it sucked since then. I know they got alot of backlash. Here at MFP its been working better and I like this community more so far as well.

Also, like someone stated above, they allow to many points these days imo. I still dont get how somethign can be ZERO points and have calories in it. People binge on stuff when they hear that and think that its ok, its not.3

I am a returning MFP'r. Had amazing success using MFP but allowed a new job to derail my progress. I need to get back into healthy eating habits, exercise and using the MFP community to keep me focused!!

Intake isn't about points in real life, it's about calories. Burn more calories than you bring in and you should lose weight. Honest and accurate tracking will put you on the road to success.
Best of all, when you've hit your goal weight you have learned from the experience and have learned something about dietary needs to fuel yourself.2 -
I dropped out of WW again since the new "freestyle" points program didn't work for me (lost 8 lbs and have been at that point for the last 3 mos). So jumped back into MFP. Here's to looking ahead!2

I am also a WW drop out. I found success with WW in the past but they changed their program and I couldn’t ever get with it. I’ve just started MFP and am so excited! I have 65 pounds to lose. 😕 But I’ll get there! Good luck to you!2

I only attend because I am a lifetime member but its changed so they really aren't about weight loss as much as healthy lifestyle and I read it as we don't want lifetimers who don't pay we want you to continue to come here weekly and pay your fee and talk about healthy lifestyles. there are no more bravo stickers, talk of weekly weightloss or asking lifetime members to stand and get acknowledged. Newbies are happy but it will only be so long before word gets around and they take a dive. its sad because they weren't like that until IMO the new CEO came on board. now its about revenue.1

I've never had success with any of those programs. Just study on different options for weight loss and how to count your calories and your macros. I am currently doing intermittent fasting which is helping out tremendously. Figure our your BMR and go from there with the your calorie intake and what is needed for weight loss. Typically it takes -500 of your BMR to lose 1lb/week. We are all here to support you and if you ever need motivation just stop on by.0
