    What exactly is your concern?

Not as bad as i remembered but still the statement could be read in a certain way...

Yeah, but what does any of that have to do with splits, flexibility, and double standards regarding sport and training?

Did it occur to any of you making fun of me that I actually had a question and a reasonable reason for asking it?

Please restate your question. Because it is reading differently than what you may have intended.

When I perform feats of flexibility I usually get from women and men alike reactions like "how the hell do you do that" ? Or "doesn't that hurt"? I've had female personal trainers comment how I am able to unlock joints. And another woman comment that I shouldn't be able to do things like that at my age. So usually it's awe and wonder but then I'm not upside down when doing these

Martial arts splits are rarely perceived or misinterpreted as "too sexy" ... Grew up watching Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Jason Statham ... "The sexy association" with splits (in martial arts) and the brand Van Damme entered via his daughter with Gladys Portugues some years ago - Bianca Bree ... in her father's footsteps.

So I watched the video you posted, and didn't see anything sexual at all about it. I don't find splits to be particularly sexual. And she's not wearing very many clothes. I wear a lot of clothes, and get the bedroom comments. I think the difference is WHO is doing it. All the people you mentioned were males, then "the sexy association" comes as soon as it's a female doing it. It's annoying.

Why can't a woman be as athletic as a male without judgement.

And since we are on the topic, Simone Biles is without question, the best gymnast in history thus far, being the only human able to perform the "Biles," a move she invented. Back in the old days, women's gymnastics were a bunch of women doing ballet leaps while the men did backhandsprings, because women were considered "not athletic enough" to do them.

Now that women do these things, the first thing is not, "wow, she's as powerful as that man," it's comments about her sexual performance, and "attention seeking" (thanks MFP posters to this thread for adding that to the list of *kitten*).

When I was in 8th grade my friends and I dreamed of a girl who could hold a split while on top and be spun like a top. In college I dated a contortionist and discovered why that was a bad idea.

When I see a man doing a split I wonder how he gets all the way to the ground with all that stuff in the way.
    LOL

When I see a man do splits all I think is 'OUCH'. Quickly followed by 'why am I watching this man doing splits?'

I don’t understand the question. What do people think when you’re doing the splits?

Honestly, probably not thinking about you and your splits at all.

I think the root cause of the assumptions is that many or most people remember the negative experiences. There are men that sexualize women. There are women that sexualize men. The comments that feed the gender roles stereotypes are often remembered since many take offense to them. The comments that are avout fitness, appearance, changes and progress, etc that are not out of line are usually not noticed as much as the caustic and/or creepy comments.

When I see a photo of a women doing the splits, I think pretty much the same thing as if I see a man doing the splits. They are more limber, and probably inclined to be more athletic in general. I've never known couch potato types that can do splits, excepting possibly people that were involved in gymnastics or such at a younger age. The same applies to workout gear, progress photos, and most profile photos. People just want to show their fitness, looks, and whatever features they feel are positive and worth noting. I don't assume that because they might wear form fitting gear they are trying to be sexualized, but more likely they are proud of their fitness, figure, gains, losses, etc.

Personally I think it's awesome that more women are getting into the sports and activities that were only done by men for years. There are loads of women here on MFP helping break those old stereotypes, and many more working towards that goal. I could easily tag dozens, but won't out of fear of not mentioning the many I don't see in the forums often and wouldn't remember their names.

So in brief, don't let the haters and D bags screw it up for you. If you're proud you can do the splits and are athletic, post it if you want. The creepy types will find a way to creep on it, but please don't think that is the majority of the forum or men in general. It's kind of like the comments on this thread. You ask a simple question and flocks come in to question your question and mock. They contribute nothing other than a distraction. Maybe they just can't do the splits? As someone who has never been even close to limber, it just amazes me that any person can be flexible enough to do some of the things they do. Rather than distract from what they can do, I just appreciate that they made the effort and can do it themselves.
