I was just thinking in my bootcamp gym class today how competitive I am:devil: ,like most things in life, my motivation and dediation gets me a long way:glasses: . My main thing that keeps me going is that im soooo competitive:laugh: ...

What keeps you going when you feel your unable to push yourself that litte bit further then out of the blue you surprise yourself with carrying on:smile: ...

I'm currently doing Turbo Fire and the music keeps me going... and Chalene yelling "you're not tired!" and "you know what? You just got your second wind." She's usually telling the truth and reminding me that it's all mental.

You know, I'm not sure. The other day I jumped on the treadmill and was only going to do a minimal amount of work, but ended up doing 25 minutes of very tough high intensity intervals. I think I could keep going because I go as fast as possible for about 1 minute; then I walk uphill for a minute and a half to recover; then I run at a reasonable pace; and I keep mixing it up like that.

I keep going because I'm a bit of a rebel. There are those I love who think this is all a temporary obsession for me, and expect me to give it up as soon as it gets "too hard". When I want to quit, when it's too darned early, or I'm just too tired, or my hip hurts, or I'm really not feeling it...I think of how smug they would be if they could say "I told you so". So I dig in, hunker down, and REFUSE to give them that opportunity!

The pain. The music. The thought of progressive overload.

I am the same way as the OP, totally competitive to the point of being pissed off when I lose, but I handle it gracefully ;)

Lately, when I workout, I have been telling myself to not be lazy and that I know I can push harder. It seems to work!

Breaking records usually keeps me going. If I know I did a 15 minute mile last week, I'll push for 14:30 this week. Then next week it will be a 14. That & Britney Spears' new album are what keep me from hopping off the treadmill.

To be honest, I don't really think my when I'm exercising. I like 'listening' to my body, experiencing how it feels while being put to the test...that it's getting stronger with each and every workout. It's my 'relaxation' time really...when I don't have to think about a thing.

    - great music
    - topping my personal records
    - not being the fat girl who can't finish (been there and don't want to go back)
    - I think about the next few minutes instead of the end. It's easier for me to tell myself to just get through the next 5 minutes 6 times in a row than to tell myself to get through the next 30 minutes.

I set goals to better myself each week so I use that to keep me going. I'm pretty self motivated and I hate failing to achieve a goal. The only thing I hate more is admitting to others that I missed a goal so posting my goals public ally keeps me going too.

the image i keep in the back of the mind of the body i want to have...it really gets me going!
  • During Zumba I try to be in the very front or close to it at the gym. My reasoning is this...It's a lot easier to stop when you're in the back, in the front it's a little embarrassing so it pushes me to keep going.

When I look in the mirror and see my self dripping in sweat, thats what keeps me going. I keep thinking that if I'm going to make myself that sweaty and gross, I might as well finish what I started.

The ability to keep going comes from within ourselves.

Looking at the skinny women jogging and thinking, "I have to keep going, I have to look like THAT one day"

Or looking at the hot men thinking, "I have to keep going if I want THAT"

    Hahahaha. :D

I have also thought that I've come this far, I can't quit now, I'd not only let my friends down, I'd let myself and my son down. I want to be able to run around with him on the playground, to go sleigh riding with him, to WEAR A BATHING SUIT! I wanna SHOCK my family when I go to the yearly Christmas party and I'm 50-60 pounds lighter than I was the year before. I want my personality to match my body. I have this qwerky, almost nerdy type of personality and I know it sounds dumb, but my body doesn't fit my personality! I'm a tomboy and I when you're fat, you just can't dress like a tomboy and look good. No, doesn't work. I wanna be able to dress tomboyish like Avril Lavigne, LOL LOL. ;0) When I come out w/ the weird stuff that I come out with and people are looking at me strange, I want them to look at me because I said something weird and not get sidetracked looking at my horrible body! Then some hot guy will think I'm funny AND hot, not funny and fat.

Yeah so that's what keeps me going. ;-)

I'm doing the 30DS and just as I'm getting tired and wanting to say "screw it! I'm taking a nap!" haha, jillian says something like "I have 400lb people that can do jumping jacks, so can you!" or just saying to push through it,you're almost done, etc.
I need someone to say things like that because it pushes me. I had a trainer that would just say, "Ok, fine, don't do it" he didn't care, he was paid either way.
I need that person to tell me to push.

I always try to do just a little bit more than the last time, I like to challenge myself each time I do a workout. Without that it can get boring and tedious and it's just too easy to quit if you're not actually striving to achieve something. Even setting a small target goal is good as it keeps me focused and motivated while I'm exercising. Having televisions at the gym is good too...if there's a good hockey or baseball game on I tend to stay a little longer and do more !!!!

If I get tired, I tell myself, "you're doing it" and it keeps me going. If it's a harder workout, I blast the fast music.

MUSIC!!! Also the fact of knowing that working out makes me feel GREAT and knowing that I look much better and will continue to look better if I keep going! No taking the easy way out anymore!

My goals.......I am so determined to reach them and I know the only way is with hard work, so I keep reminding myself of where I want to be and it keeps me going.

    - Music
    - The amazing feeling I have after, I feel calm and euphoric
    - The thought in knowing I'm one step closer to my goal
