If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, We welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, We welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? So you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Or, are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid? However you choose to push your pedal, you are welcome on this thread.

There's no set challenge across participants - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group. Just pick your own target that you want to achieve this month, post that when you join the thread, and post updates throughout the month as you're working towards your target.

On our way for August ...

(BTW - Thanks to @CricketKate for starting all this back in 2012)

Hey great to see a cycling community here. Cycling is my favourite exercise. I do a combination of commuting and a handful of events.

After a disappointing cycling month in July it's time to step it up in August. Plus it's only 7 weeks to the Velo South closed roads Century event so I need to train and not just ride.
Most of the drive train on my best bike has been replaced to cure shifting problems and it's a joy to ride despite the ongoing heatwave in the South of England.

130 miles so far this month including a metric century on the first day of the month to start with a bang.

Hooked up with the new local chapter of our state mountain bike association tonight for a group ride. Not knowing what kind of ride it would be, I went out a rode 4.5 miles before they got there. Big mistake! It was a faster paced ride and no stopping. Felt great though! New best ride total at 15 miles!

Been riding a ton like always...81 hours in July. Tapering right now.

Starting a 1200KM ride Monday....4 days....750+ miles and over 30,000 feet of climbing.

    Day one 236 miles
    Day two 178
Day three 197....which I will soft pedal till I get 200
    Day four 141

I have done a ton of crazy endurance stuff...Ironman, 400 miles in a day, many single day 200/300 miles rides but this one is a little over the top for me.

    Wish me luck

Don’t have to push myself because I love riding my bike! It’s not exercising to me. It’s therapy.

A bit of a quiet week for me due to other commitments and poor weather but did have one highlight....
My first ever Strava KOM at age 58 (must be a late developer!).

    214 miles for the month.

@Dr_Farru, it might be hard a first, but I went for a ride every day until it became a habit. Now, as @huskydoo said above, it does become a kind of therapy and stress relief, and now, I feel like something is missing out of my day if I don’t get to go for a ride, and I’ve been doing it now for 5 years.

I don't mind biking alone but check out the local bike shops and see if they have any group rides you can join. That's how I started into mountain biking. I joined the weekly ride, then a bunch of women started going and we started our own ladies ride night. My bike shop sponsors at least 4 different rides each week from serious road biking to casual rides.

We went to this really cool place on Sunday to mountain bike. It's an art exhibit with these giant structures. They offer air conditioned bus tours but my girlfriends and I are badass...lol and braved the 100 degree heat and 5 miles uphill with 2000 ft of elevation climb. No seriously, it was miserable! The installations are really cool but if I ever go back it better be 70 degrees or less!

This is installation is bigger than my house!

Slow start this month and trying to figure out how to start incorporating more strength training, but my last few rides have been feeling really good. Getting comfortable riding 10-15 miles a few times a week. According to my Garmin I've logged about 200 miles since getting my bike!

I'm new to biking.. I need help with not wanting someone to go bike with. How do you push yourself to go alone?

I don't mind biking alone but check out the local bike shops and see if they have any group rides you can join. That's how I started into mountain biking. I joined the weekly ride, then a bunch of women started going and we started our own ladies ride night. My bike shop sponsors at least 4 different rides each week from serious road biking to casual rides.

They all ride so much faster than me. I'm still between 9-11mph.. 11 with no elevation at all... 9 with about 150-200 elevation.. This is why group rides are hard for me.. 😒

I rode a mile less today than yesterday.. Went a Little faster because I avoided any elevation... I'm hoping to slowly build stamina again... I was hurting while riding today!!!

Also look for a cycling club in your area. Most will have easy paced rides for beginners or families. My club has them for road and MTB.
