Is keto more suited to high speed weight loss?

Where you can expect relatively high levels of hunger if you did the high carb route? I know that there are other advantages of keto but I don't really have a need for them.

Fat loss is CICO, keto is one way to stick to CICO but following a keto diet doesn't mean you'll lose fat quicker than someone who isn't on a keto diet.7

Initially, you will lose a significant amount of water when you start keto but long term there is no real advantage to weight loss, and none for fat loss. The reason keto works for some better than others for weight loss is because they find a diet high in fats and low in carbs satiating, which makes it much easier for them to stay within a calorie deficit. If you were the opposite and needed complex carbs, starch and fibre for satiety then the opposite would hold true.9

I find it easier to lose when keto. Carbs stimulate more carb cravings which can result in eating more calories.
Plus keto reduces my appetite in general. Normally if I reduce calories I get hungrier but I don't experience that with keto.
Weight loss comes down to consuming fewer calories, but with keto I find weight loss is a lot easier. So is maintenance.5 -
Appetite and hunger is not the same. Appetite is individual, subjective, habitual and situational. Hunger is your body's need for replenishment. You will starve when you're not getting all the nutrition you need. A healthy diet provides you with all the nutrition you need. A healthy diet is balanced and varied, but there are many ways to vary and balance your diet. You should also eat according to your appetite, but most people can't rely solely on their appetite, aka intuition, to make good eating decisions, they need to make a conscious, aka mindful, choice.5

no. but you may lose quicker at first on keto because of the water weight loss from dropping your carbs1 -
I find carbs and starchy carbs in particular far more satiating than high fat foods. Others will prefer high protein, others high fat....
Would question why you seem to think "high speed weight loss" is a sensible goal. Is there some medical imperative?
Rapid weight loss (excluding water weight loss) means a big calorie deficit - that's more likely going to cause high levels of hunger than anything else.2 -
When calories are equal, the diet higher in protein and fiber will produce the best fat loss. Outside of personal preference, fats and carbs are largely unimportant.7

"Dr Paul Mason obtained his medical degree with honours from the University of Sydney, and also holds degrees in Physiotherapy and Occupational Health. He is a Specialist Sports Medicine and Exercise Physician." I was hoping it would list some links without watching a 30+ minute video, but no dice.
All the recent comments that mention specifics are about sugar, insulin, and artificial sweeteners.
Several of the websites that came up in a google for him were blocked by my computer at work.3 -

As far as the OP, the only thing "high speed" about weight loss on keto is the initial water weight loss as you deplete glycogen/water from your body. The satiety effect varies from person to person - you may find it more satiating, which will help your adherence, which will make your weight loss more effective. Or you may not.

Been there, done that. Years ago. But I will go on record as saying that if I had a choice between keto and vegan, it would be keto all the way.
I love beef, chicken, pork, duck, lamb, venison, eggs, cheese, etc. I just don't believe in all the magick and wizardry because there's no science to back it.7 -

His video doesn't exactly prove what his objectives suggest. It doesn't disprove CICO and it seems that his biggest fear is insulin. The low fat vs low carb studies don't discuss variations in protein intakes and of the 100, 30% of them had statistical significance (which is good). But again, those also probably had the highest difference in protein intake. Often when those who increase fats, also tend to increase proteins... Which calorie for calorie has been demonstrated to be superior for weight loss and metabolism. Its why every single study that maintains calories and protein show no difference in fat loss.
His longer living suggestion ia based off a single study, but yet zero mention of all of the longest living and healthiest countries in the world who are 70-80% carbs.

But I am struck by how many people think keto is a weight loss plan. It's not, and should not be approached that way. It's a way of detoxing your body and letting it normalize to what it should be. It's eating as cleanly as possible. Weight loss is just a byproduct. A huge benefit, I agree, but nothing more than a byproduct.
So, IMHO, this WOE is for me the best I have ever tried. Once you detox from a carb/sugar heavy diet, food will taste better than it ever tasted because your taste buds are no longer being bombarded by too much sugar.
I have been religiously tracking what I eat. When I first started, I was consuming more than 150g of carbs and 100g of sugar! Now it's ~30g of carbs and ~9g of sugar. A huge difference that, among other things, have allowed me to lose more than 50lbs. In just four months! This WOE, by the way, is naturally low in sugar.
I highly recommend watching "The Magic Pill" on Netflix. A real eye opener.

Your body doesn't need to "detox" from carbs/sugar. Your liver/kidneys do a great job of actually detoxing your body. A way of eating is not a detox.9 -

Keto can be implemented in many ways. It by no means suggest that one has to eat clean or anything od the sorts; that may be the path you are taken, but as a whole many on keto diets incorporate processed meats and foods like pork rinds.
Anything on Netflix, should be taken very lightly.7 -

Magic pill is what got my interest. I thought keto was a fad diet that because of high fat was bad long term. After much research I decided that it was a lifestyle I wanted to try. I never eat sugar but did cut bread and potatoes out which was easy. Then you start looking into hidden carbs and sugars, they are everywhere. I never thought of it as detox but after going keto I get more energy and feel more focused at work. But that can't be possible because keto is only about CICO and nothing to do with anything else.14 -
To the OP while you get rapid weight loss at first because you shed some water weight I don't thing it is necessarily a really fast process. I don't count or restrict calories only carbs. I let my body take care of the rest. If I ever feel the need to accelerate I may either restrict or fast but till then I just coast along and am down 16 pounds since July 10th.3
