Ate pistachios and having ragrets

I ate pistachios because I was still hungry after lunch and it was unplanned and I didn't weigh it.
Besides the pistachios, I've only had my grilled chicken salad which is prob 400ish(ate out).
Should I just skip dinner? No idea if I'm over my 1200 goal for today.

Do your best to guesstimate how many pistachios you had, and then eat dinner to fit in your remaining calories, or just eat dinner and accept that you are likely over your goal today. One day is not going to make a big difference in the overall scheme of things. Do NOT get into a cycle of overeating and then punishing yourself for it.9

I also did an hour on the elliptical in the morning which might save me from going over... fml0

Once you add the exercise calories in, you still have a lot of calories to play with. I'm not understanding the FML, sounds like you are being way to strict on yourself. That will make this a long miserable process for you, or you're just going to give up after another time or two when you eat something you didn't plan for.8

You’re overreacting. Take your best guess at how many pistachios you ate, log them, move on. Even if you go over your calorie goal, the worst that will happen is either nothing or a small, temporary gain that is probably water/undigested food. One day of overeating does not have a long term effect on your weight loss unless you let it turn into several days of overeating.
This is not an “fml” situation. You are not going to be able to weigh every single bite that crosses your lips for the rest of your life. You need to be okay with the fact that some entries will be estimates, and do the best you can.10 -

Ok. First, deep breath. You're being very dramatic and doom and gloom over a few pistachios. That to me is more of a red flag than eating over 1200 calories today (which, incidentally, is unlikely to be necessary for you to lose weight).
Do not skip dinner. You are probably caught in a binge-restrict cycle (grilled chicken salad followed by unregulated eating of a calorie-dense food, for example). Skipping dinner tonight just sets you up for more trouble tomorrow.10 -
idk it was at least like 3 handfuls but I'll try and relax.0

30 grams of shelled pistachios is 160 calories. I know this because I eat them every night before bed. 30 grams is *roughly* a quarter of a cup. I don't know how big your hands are, but I just did an experiment (because nerd) and I can only hold 23 grams in one hand without spilling. So, that would mean 3 handfuls would be about 69 grams or 368 calories of yummy healthy fats. I like to pair mine with a glass of sauvignon blanc.13

A "handful" is usually around 1/4 cup, depending on the hand. Were they shelled or unshelled when you estimated how many you ate? Log your best guess at how many you had. You're likely looking at 300-700 calories from pistachios which still leaves room for a light dinner. This is not as big a deal as it seems to be. It's a hiccup. You'll have days where you're over and days where you're under and they'll all even out in the end if you're fairly consistent.0 -
Okay, let’s say you ate 700 calories of pistachios. Let’s even say you go home and eat dinner as usual, and you’re 700 calories over your calorie goal. Let’s say you then get back on track and just end up 700 calories over goal for the week.
3500 calories burned equals a pound of fat. So if you eat 700 calories more than intended this week, then you lose 0.2 pounds less this week than you would have otherwise. 0.2 pounds either up or down is easily masked by normal weight fluctuations. 0.2 pounds is not worth this level of stress. And again, that 0.2 pounds is a worst case scenario. Relax.8 -
It's not a big deal.
Are you hungry for dinner? If you are, then eat a dinner. But if you aren't hungry, then don't bother and just get back on track tomorrow.0 -

Is 1200 actually an appropriate calorie goal for you? Unless you are very very short and practically bedridden, it's lower than you need to go, and under eating can lead to binging.
