How have your results been?! And what’s your current eating window?

@LauraSrock18, you must be very close to your wedding now. It may not be wise to change you eating window at this point in time. You want to be happy and healthy at the alter, not passing out because of an eating window that doesn't suit you, or haven't adjusted to.
Stay with what you are doing and revisit IF if you wish after the wedding.
Results are generally the same no matter what your eating window is so long as the calorie intake is constant.
Try to relax.
(If I have got this wrong, my apologies)
Cheers, h.19 -
In 7 months of eating a fairly consistent 6 hour window I can attest to zero additional increase of fat loss due to an extended fasting window. I eat this way because I was already doing it for 20+ years before I started losing. It never kept me from gaining weight and it has not helped me lose any. All of the weight I have lost matches my calorie deficit at 3500 calorie per pound.

I'm not an IF person, but I did eat all my meals within 6-8 hours for a year or so, so that means I IF'ed. The results were great, as expected, my weight trend was according to calorie intake. Now I'm eating breakfast earlier, so my "window" is more like 9 hours. And meal timing isn't really significant, but when you eat meals and only at meals (most of the time), you tend to not consistently overeat.
You're getting married? Stressed out? Try to relax and focus, not change things up at random.6 -

I thought you were maintaining till after the wedding?3 -
How have your results been?
Results matched my calorie balance for both 5:2 and 16:8 IF styles.
And what’s your current eating window?
All day, every day but quite varied day to day. I tend to eat most of my food later in the day which matches my natural eating preferences and the flexibility suits me better than having rigid rules. YMMV so have a serious think about both what you are hoping to gain from it and what might be the downsides for you.

i never said you couldn't.3 -
I'm down 16 pounds. My planned eating window is 12-8 but I often stop after dinner, so more like 12 to 6. For me it was easy to do because I don't usually eat a lot of breakfast. It doesn't work for everyone, for instance, my wife can't do IF but lost her weight eating three meals a day and counting calories. Everyone is different and IF is not magical by any means, just an easier way (sometimes) to maintain a deficit.2

I have been doing 16:8 IF for nearly a year and lost 20kg (44 pounds). In the last month or so, I've gained and lost the same kg. So thought I needed to change it up a bit and moved to 23:1 or OMAD. I've been doing that a week without any issues with the transition and have lost 2.5kg (over 5 pounds) in a week. I don't expect this level of loss to continue, but if I can do 1kg a week, I'll be happy. I'll keep doing 23:1 for a long as I can, or until I reach my goal of another 44 pounds down. Then I'll probably return to 16:8 or a mix of the two.2

My current IF window is 16: 8
Feeding window is from 1 p.m until 7 p.m . Staying within a defecit is key, been IF'ing for years, lost about 60 + lbs... it's a lifestyle!2 -
Results have been mixed, based on how much I eat... and how much I eat seems to have no connect to when I do or don't eat. Apparently I can eat 6000 cals in a 6hr window or a 12hr window.6

You didn't lose 5lbs in a week. Changing the way you eat changes your output (times and amount) in the restroom. You have simply caught up to the weight you have been losing the entire time or you are in a temporary low weight fluctuation.

I have been doing IF for 2 weeks and have finally lost 2 lbs. I had been stuck for a couple of months. I am only going to do it when I plateau. My eating window is from 9am-4pm.3
-
I usually eat noon-8 or 1-90
-
I try to stick to 11-7 or 12-8. I know I like to snack at night so I think this has helped cut out a lot of calories for me.0

I'm kind of on a OMAD (but still have my morning coffee and creamer, which adds up to a very light breakfast LOL).
I then eat a regular dinner.
I've only been doing this a few weeks now - initially the scale dropped a couple pounds, then I realized I still need to track my one meal to be sure I'm staying in a good deficit (a slight deficit with exercise was easy to maintain, but I'm looking for a bit more loss in the 1-1.5 lb/wk rate).
I went with this plan because it fits with my natural eating habits. I enjoy having one large meal where I don't have to worry much about how much I'm eating. Trying to split that one plate of food into 3 meals I just find depressing! Other than the last couple hours before dinner, I don't feel like I'm missing anything, either, as I've never been a breakfast eater, and lunch has been easy to skip now that I've adjusted (started out with an afternoon snack, but I've started eliminating that).
It's definitely not for everyone, and I'm flexible depending on the day's activities (for example, at a track day or race weekend I will still have a light lunch and maybe even a light breakfast along with my dinner).
Personally, unless it fits with your lifestyle, I don't really see the point in it - for me it works no matter where I am (which is what I needed), no matter how busy I am, or what my week looks like, AND fits my natural eating. Doesn't mean I'd "recommend" it as a diet choice unless someone was in a similar boat.5 -

The OP was asking how our results were looking on IF. As I said, I am not new to IF but had hit a plateau after a year and started OMAD as a way to change things up. I dont think you were in my bathroom when I weighed myself. The scales did indeed tell me I physically weighed 5 pounds less at the end of the week, than at the beginning. I assume the loss was down to water weight etc. As I also said, I didn't expect that rate to continue, and it hasn't - though I am still pleased with the results after 3 weeks.
You may not have intended to sound so aggressive. Replies worded like that are the reason I have only ever posted 3 or 4 times. It reminds me why I generally only read forums rather than post and run the gauntlet of those who want to question the veracity of my personal experiences without knowing me.12 -

Meh. It is the internet. If being succinct and matter of fact is "aggressive" to you I think that is on you not me. Try reading it again and imagine that I have a warm smile on my face and I am offering you a nice beverage.12 -
My eating window - burger King drive thru
24 hrs in most places.

I've been on a 16/8 for close to 14 years. It's now a part of my life. I'll never stop. It doesn't help lose weight any better than anything else. It simply gives me a sense of control. Where eating used to control me I now control my eating. I decide when and what I eat. That combined with a calorie deficit will never let you down. Eating to live instead of living to eat is very liberating for me.3

I unintentionally don’t eat breakfast, but I’ve been doing that since I was a child. It’s nothing special to me. Calories are king for weight loss whether you eat them spread throughout the day, or all in one meal.100_PROOF_ wrote: »My eating window - burger King drive thru

I usually have breakfast around 10-11am, lunch at 2pm and dinner at 6pm. So my eating window is around 7 hours. This works well for me for both weight loss and maintenance.0
-
My results from calorie deficit have been fine. My IF eating window varies. The window is not that important. It is only a schedule and has no impact except helping you stay within your calorie goal. That is what gets results.2

I'm on a 5:2 schedule, and it's working just fine!0

Woo means BS, bro science, WTF or more politely too good to be true. People tend also to use it as a dislike button.
(I didn't woo you BTW.)
Would be helpful to link the article you refer to as it could be a reasoned argument, be based on science, a poor piece of clickbait journalism or just some random ill-educated person's opinion.
Seems highly unlikely to me that half the world's population can't skip breakfast without causing themselves health issues if that's what it actually says.....
The other problem if the article just randomly says intermittent fasting is bad for women is to know which of the many very different IF protocols is problematic. A daily fasting window is very different to ADF for example.2 -
I've been on IF for 1 week using 16:8. My feasting window is 11a-7p. I work an early morning shift (in-time at 2a) so I go to bed around 7:30 or 8. I don't eat until after I get home.
So far I'm down 1.4 pounds. I have MFP set to lose 1.5 per week, so I'm right on schedule.
I'm currently training for a half marathon in May so I'm doing my runs on a treadmill around 4p, right in the middle of my eating window. I'm not sure if that's optimal, but it fits my schedule.0
