Getting Walking Done

Hey Ladies,
Wanted to check in and see how walking was going? Do we need some additional ways to motivate? Should we set a challenge, like walking 3 miles in one day or walking up to a 5K?

Check out the 'challenges' sub-forum. I bet there is something you can join in on there, and if not, that is the place to start a challenge.

You need constant wi fi for apps like that, right? That would be the ONLY reason I would want a smart phone considering all the walking I do. Otherwise people would just be able to get to me more easily.0 -

For that one, you actually don't. You put in your steps manually, whenever you want to. No need to be online all the time.

OH! My steps tend to be out of whack considering I take teeny tiny ones when doing this one walking dvd in my apartment but this needs to be looked into further.0 -

Does walking genuinely help loose weight faster?0

Any and all physical exercise, including walking, increases the number on the 'calories out' side of the calories in- calories out balance. Although there are other higher intensity forms of exercise that will allow you to burn more calories in less time, walking is an excellent way of getting into the habit of exercise and initial weight loss for anyone who is not fit and/or used to more intense stuff. Some people progress to running, aerobics or other forms of cardio over time but others manage to lose and then maintain their goal weight with walking and sticking to their calorie allowances alone. For example I started out walking for 30 minutes a day, gradually increased to an hour. Although I eventually did progess to (and fall in love with) running, I would say it helped me enormously.0 -

Faster than sitting on the couch, for sure!
There's a poster here who lost 100 pounds with mostly walking (and some swimming.)0
