Being an overweight person, I have gotten comments, mostly from older family members or older members of my previous employment about being overweight. Anyone like to share some rude comments they have gotten about being overweight OR underweight?
I got one from a member of my previous employment, "You would be such a pretty girl if you just lost some weight. I just don't understand it."
Or family member, " I don't think she would have those big boobs if she lost some weight."
At the time these hurt my feelings but now I can laugh about them realizing other's comments should be irrelevant. People can be savage sometimes I swear lol.

I have never had any comment--ever at my heaviest or lightest. I'm 69---I'm so glad I don't have to put up with the nonsense that seems to follow the youngins now days.2

My most hated comment is "should you really be eating that?" Like bish I know what i'm eating, now stay in your lane.16

Had this yesterday from a client, "have you stopped running, as you put a bit of weight on"
My answer, yes 3 kids, both work full time = routine out the window.
Back on it this week though3 -
yes I have had rude comments. Family can hurt us the most but for others if they aren't someone important in my life their opinion means very little. Why let someone have that power over you?1

I had a complete stranger at my gym comment on my weight. He’s an older guy and I think he thought he was complimenting me. At the time of his comment I had lost about 40 lbs (pregnancy weight) over the course of a year. He said “wow you look great. I mean really. Your thighs before were huge! How much do you have left to lose, maybe 10-15? Keep it up”
Like wow. Didn’t emotionally bother me cuz don’t know this man from Adam, but I was shocked that people find it appropriate to comment on others bodies. It didn’t feel like a compliment to me lol7 -
I'm very underweight because of gastroparesis and can barely eat. I get comments like eat a cheeseburger (I would love to be able to), I look like a biafran, i'm anorexic, just eat more, you look horrible, you are just attention seeking.13

So I'm 155lbs and 5'7. My BMI is the top end of the healthy scale...24.3. Despite this when I was in a queue to buy some breakfast last year the woman behind me tapped me and said 'I hope you don't mind me saying but you really should try caffeine tablets to help with the weight'. I was pretty stunned so a blunt 'thanks for that' came out of my mouth and I turned back around to hear her say 'fine. Be chunky. Can't help some people'...
Attempted not to take it to heart, since I was stood with my particularly tiny best friend and (not out of bitterness) said woman looked a bit questionable (extremely thin, makeup all over the place and drinking a frozen coke at breakfast time) and was just a crappy person... but wow.13 -
Also with ya on the boob comments... people wouldn't comment on the size of a person's thighs, so not sure why everyone feels welcome to comment on boobs...4

I never had anyone say stuff to my face when I was almost 300lbs. When I was 155Lb everyone said anything and everything. It actually came to the point I felt like I was verbally abused4

Just out of the blue? No, I don't think anyone has commented on my weight. When I've said "no" to some treats, especially when I was much closer to my ideal weight, then yes, I did have people comment on "why not" and when I said I was working on losing 5 pounds, go off on a tirade about how I didn't need to lose any weight.
I've learned to keep my weight goals or plans to myself unless it really comes up in conversation or if I think someone would be as supportive of me as I would be of them (several of my coworkers fall into this category) - but again, I seldom initiate the conversation.
For reference, I'm 5' 7", at my heaviest I was around 163 ish (never got on a scale at that weight), currently around 152, and my goal is somewhere around 128-140 depending on my muscle mass as I get into that range.
I got the most negative comments when I was around 132 and would turn down extra-rich desserts or extra servings of high-calorie foods.2 -
I personally have never had it about my weight, but I have a young lady in my life that is very tall and thin. I have held her in my arms crying after being told by complete strangers that she should eat more burgers. This was said as she was ordering burgers at McDonald's on two separate occasions. I don't understand how people can be so rude to another human being.5

I had a Korean neighbor who had a wonderful garden. My yard is completely shaded so I cant grow that many veggies. Every time she saw me she said "you too fat, eat some vegetables..." then would walk over to her garden get a lot of fresh veggies and hand them to me "here, eat these you too fat." Why thank you..I am and free fresh veggies WOOT WOOT! I always knew in veggie growing season if she saw me I was getting a lot of free veggies LOL12

I've posted this before but it's worth mentioning again. I had gotten some new glasses and asked if they noticed anything new. They said "I dunno, you don't have a big plate of food in your face?"
I mean...I get that comments like that should motivate but instead it just made me eat more. That's where the extra 100 lbs after the first 100lbs I had gained came from.8 -
Never from strangers but my mom has said some pretty hurtful stuff. She once asked me if I was trying to figure out how big I could blow up...I think she forgets she was very overweight for my entire childhood. Once she lost weight she thought she was better than everyone else 🙄11

A few people have. The worst was from (now ex) friends and family members I really don't talk to anymore. Somehow the act of bettering yourself can bring out the worst in other people.8

A “body positive” therapist told me I looked like a flat-chested little boy. A fat activist friend (who I know had BED because we binged together more than once) told me I was triggering and she couldn’t be my friend anymore. I was told CPS would be called on me because I was too thin (and they were). I had some women follow me in a mall (middle aged women) and talk about, “Ewww. What size do you think she is? She looks disgusting” when I was about 25 pounds lighter than I am now. I was extremely depressed from a bad medication interaction and was at the mall so I wouldn’t self-harm. You never know what a person is going through (I’m off meds and mentally fine now- but I was a mess that day.)
I have been obese and underweight, and I honestly was never treated as poorly when I was bigger as I was when I was smaller. Even now- I’m actually an acceptable weight for my bone structure (I have 5 inch wrists- my frame is extremely small despite being 5’9”- so if I eat healthy and exercise, I’m going to be smaller), people always tell me to eat carbs. Like... I do. Constantly.14 -
I got the "You would be such a pretty girl if you just lost some weight" but I didn't really take it negatively. I simply took it to mean that the person who said it thinks I'm pretty, but they're not into the obese look. Not everyone is. That's a fact and I don't feel it's a personal attack directed at me, more like an ignorant attempt at motivating me to lose weight. That's really all I can remember outside of the rare actual mean comment from strangers (mostly teenagers who are peacocking for their friends, makes me smile).
I don't think it's helpful to ruminate, but I may be biased because I have an unusually thick skin for actual insults, let alone foot-in-mouth syndrome. I don't really perceive certain comments like some people may so I'm often not even aware of them. I just think most people aren't really trying to hurt other people for no reason.8 -
It's a sad commentary on our society when people think it is okay to comment on someone else's physical being. It was bad when my mother was alive, because she would continually comment on my weight. Even when I was a teen, and my measurements were 36-24-34 and I wore a size 8, she used to refer to me as "zofty". She was obsessed about weight. My middle sister is obsessed about weight and she is very fit. Sometimes if she and my other sister and I have lunch (she lives in another state), she eat something and then say she feels she feels like a "fat cow". Now my youngest sister and I are overweight, so I wonder how she thinks that makes both of us feel?5
