Hi ladies. I am in a tsunami of technology issues. First my cell phone went nuts; it wouldn't stay on, the start up program ran constantly and it was deleting my contacts. So I got my replacement and took it to the story yesterday and lo and behold, the keyboard doesn't work right and you can't do anything with it if it is horizontal. I can't connect to our Wi Fi either. ALSO my pc at home has the "blue screen of death" and won't do anything. So I doubt I will be here this weekend. UGH.
On the bright side, the increased meds are making me feel better!4 -
Lisa: Thanks for the link to Dr. Jessame’s Snail article.
Barbie: Great news for Jake’s health!!!!! Improvement and hope are wonderful things. Good news for you, too.
Snowflake: Smaller clothes are absolute proof of success. Congratulations! :flowerforyou:
(((Lenora))) I hope you get reconnected to your Psychiatrist ASAP. :flowerforyou:
Sue in WA: Your cramps sound painful and unpleasant. I hope you find a solution that gets rid of them.
Kim: “i wrote a huge response and then instead of cutting and pasting, I deleted it. grrr” Been there, done that. It is really irritating. :flowerforyou:
Allie: I’ve had GERD since early college years and have it under good control now through a combination of food choices and medicine. I hope you’re able to deal with yours. When I’m having reflux problems I take ranitidine. It is an over the counter medicine and seems to work very well for me.
Today DH is getting a new leg brace to help him walk. This is necessary because of the effects of MS. He is looking forward to the new brace—the old one is worn out. I'm going along because he wants me there, but it means I have to skip Yoga. :ohwell:

Trying to get caught up with this post and getting overwhelmed! But, that's me and I'll get there. All I can say right now is hugs all around. This group seems so supportive.
Right now, I'm dealing with possible liver damage due to poor diet when I was in my long-term slump. Hoping to reverse that. Happy to say that my exercise and eating habits are going smoothly.
Now, to get caught up...5 -
Kaytone Karen: So sorry to hear about the latest battle between parents and child.

Katla~ yes I bought some at Walmart this morning..
Tony was great.. but my brother another matter..... he is married and his wife though I love her does seem to be selfish and bossy anyway.. Sean has been texting this woman, or a couple of them.. and he was literally up all night... i went to sleep at 10 he didnt come to the room until 2 am and He was texting the whole time until I got up at like 5:15.... oh lord.. and today for me at least will be tough.. I got home at 6:30 and because Alfie was at Toms I ran over to Walmart, bought myself some rain boots as my friends and I are going to our local fair tonight...muddy as all get out down there....bought some creamer and some forks, and then came home and set up the gathering room for after the burial,, then went and fed my DFIL and went and got Alfie and walked the dogs...
stopped at store to get ice and coffee filters, and came home and unloaded..
then went and finished upstairs setting up.. and am dripping in sweat i know I know TMI.. so will hop in the shower and get ready... have dad all set and ready to go.. he will be going to his final resting place and be were my mom is buried... Military Burials always get me sobbing , my friend will be playing Taps..
then back here for refreshments and memories..... ,will clean up and then off to the fair, and hopefully get a few hrs of shuteye tonight... cause im gonna be dragging tomorrow...4 -
Vickie WOW! I thought Idaho's 40 degrees in 24 hours temperature change was wild, but your NE has that beat by a mile.
Allie hope your time insumptuous surroundings strenghthened you for today. Did I misunderstand? Sounded like your brother was texting women other than his wife?
Lenora could your Psyche Dr's old office be trying to hold onto your business for after when your Dr. leaves them? Can you call him directly (at new place?) and schedule?
Karen in VA What are SOLs? Anger journal sounds just the ticket, as well as keeping the HW notebook at yours.
Ack running late time to T'ai Chi, but here's the home made alternative to the spendy "Balanced Breaks" I made this am for my breakfast in the car. Same calories, same protein, way less $$
Lighter, lovelies!

Hi ladies,
Barbie, I am so happy to hear about Jake’s good cancer news. I’m doing the Snoopy happy dance for him. Just a 30 minute nap? After all you did, I’d be out for a lot longer. Glad you can line dance again. I know how much you love it.
Tracey, the pink tutu is priceless. So cute.
Lisa, I’m all for medial health days. I remember my mother having me take one or two during the school. Don’t feel guilty. You are taking care of yourself so that you can take care of everything else you do.
Heather, good for you fighting the urge for Pernod. Hope you feel better soon.
Sharon, taking off the stove’s knobs made me smile. It may get to that point. Right now, I think he will cooperate.
Allie, Nine times out of ten when I say that to myself I realize the problem isn’t really mine. They played Taps for my DD and I cried like a baby. Breath girl!
Lanette, I’m sorry to hear you are can’t’ drive. I totally understand the feelings you have. As I get older, I think of losing that independence.
Lenora, glad you are feeling better.
Peach, we just got a new stove and I’m loving it. It looked so nice when it was delivered that I didn’t want to use it. Enjoy your new frig.
Wizzywig, It must be hard for your husband having narcolepsy and cataplexy. And hard on you as well. People are so quick to judge and make comment on things they know nothing about which can be hurtful.
NYkaren, drive safe and enjoy your trip.
Karen in VA, I think you are doing so well with your GS and the anger journal is a great idea. He is lucky to have you.
Meg, glad the meds are helping.
Katla, glad your DH is getting his leg brace. I’m sure that will help.
LeGypsy, I felt overwhelmed with post when I first started with the group. It’s hard to remember everyone and there are a lot of posts to catch up on. When I first started I felt I had to read every word. Now I skim and read in depth when I can. I usually can catch up if I read posts in the morning and on my phone at night after I go to bed.
Feeling a little better today. Threw out the Cheetos I bought yesterday. Good thing I did as I would be in them right now if I hadn’t. I’ve been so focused on DH that I’m trying to tell myself to think more about me. Going to try again today to track my food and stay within calories. I could have cried this morning when I tried on 4 different outfits and hated all of them. I was thinking about my weight as I drove to work (I did finally find something to wear) this morning and it’s almost 20lbs I’ve gain since last December, not 10. I keep trying to think about how good I felt before I went off track. Getting started is the hardest part for me. So once again, I’m going to try today and think about how good I’ll feel tonight when I go bed knowing I succeeded.
Thanks for all your support.

Terry, you are back on the right track---joining in the conversation on this thread and making an eating plan for your day. This journey has to start somewhere and you're doing it. Keep coming back.
Barbie1 -
Lenora - I am very much like you I don't have patience to wait for projects. I come up with an idea and I want to move mountains to get it done right now! My insistent one right now is getting the barn style door on our bathroom. I have the track, just need to buy the door and get it installed. I had to laugh out loud at your "have my papers" it's great that you have a sense of humour, it sure helps I believe. What is the Old Wives Tale book called that you have? My Mother in Law is forever telling me the old wives tales so many of them actually work! That book might be a good gift for my daughter's bridal shower.
Barbie - I bet it felt so nice to dance again for 45 minutes! You have handled the confinement very well.
Machka - Red Deer to Edmonton, did you have to do that daily? I live in Leduc and work in Capilano area of Edmonton. I find that commute quite long enough!
NYKaren - I have to say I am just envious of your road trip! The leaves will be out in full colour and just a weekend away from home is a celebration in my book. Have a wonderful trip! I bet you'll have a Thanksgiving dinner in there somewhere!
Karen in VA- Your Grandson is so blessed to have you in his life fighting for him and teaching him. I think the anger book is a great idea!
Heather - They can't seem to stick to their own deadlines at all. Didn't they tell you you would have an answer Friday earlier this week? So frustrating for you and your DH.
Allie - Your brother was texting other women? If that's the case maybe the SIL knows something is up and that's why she is being controlling. I would be. Thoughts are with you at the burial today.
Terry - I understand how you feel, when I gained 20 pounds last winter I was devastated and so disappointed in myself. This group and starting to track again has helped me so much.
I met my daughter's mother in law last night with a personal trainer friend of hers to do a workout at the Rec Centre. It was a lot of fun and a workout like I have never had!
The trainer had two decks of playing cards including the Jokers. She mixed them up in a pile on the floor, then there was a list of what each suit was telling us to do.
Aces and Jokers - 1 lap around the 200m track at a sprint or jog. (Since we were just starting we were able to walk if we felt more comfortable doing that)
Hearts - 1 set of stairs - 6 flights of stairs, each flight had 14 steps - All steps down and up counted as 4 sets. (I still am not sure how she figured the math on that)
Clubs - Bicep Curls
Tricep Curls
Medicine Ball against Wall
Diamonds - Plank
Flip Plank
Push Ups
Spades - Walking Lunge
Curtsy Lunge
Backwards Lunge
For Clubs, Diamonds and Spades the face value of the card was double. So if you got the 10 of Spades you had to do 20 Walking lunges. The first time you drew the suit you did the first item for that suit, second did the second, etc. We used 5 pound weights when we did any of the clubs or spades.
I drew Aces, Jokers and Hearts pretty much all night. I think I drew Spades 3 times, Clubs only twice, Diamonds only once. The goal is to get through all cards. We had about 6 cards left when we stopped because the gym was overcrowded with a hockey team that came in.
It was a lot of fun and I told her I would totally be up for doing it again.
I was thinking about it and it's something I could do at home as well. I don't have stairs or a track, but I could put something else in it's place. I have a space to do everything else and I would only use 1 deck of cards.
We just received some wonderful news! Today was supposed to be my husband's last day and would be starting winter lay-off. He just got told he has 2 weeks more for sure and possibly 3!
It is Friday and I have a very busy weekend ahead of me so not sure how much I'll get on here. Hope you all have a great weekend.
It is a long weekend for me, Thanksgiving here in Canada. I am doing the turkey dinner Sunday evening. With all of the schedules I have to work around it will be a late dinner, 7pm but it will be fun and I'll have Monday to recuperate.
Tracey, sore and tired, but feeling accomplished in Edmonton

Barb in sunny NW Washington - Not so sunny today! Sounds like you’re handling your recovery beautifully. Isn’t it wonderful when you get to visit with friends again?
Machka - My heart goes out to you and your husband! Loss of driving for him is a bit of an upheaval for both of you. I lived carefree for about five years also, but I had a lovely BMW motorcycle that I did all my errands with, with the aid of a small trailer for dump runs and laundry.
NYKaren - Aren’t those childhood pictures precious? My children were for the most part young in the 70s and 80s and early 90s, but one of them has digitized a lot of the early photos. Like you, my childhood is in a box. Very few pictures left, I’m afraid.
Katla - I’m glad your husband is getting the new leg brace, but sorry you’re missing yoga!
Terry in VT - kudos for jumping back on the track! I thought I'd gained 20 last year over holidays and through early spring. It was horrifying to find I'd gained 40! I'm now on track for Bariatric surgery, but have lost 20 so for with a dieticians help. I'm 75, so no time to waste!
Tracey in Edmonton - sounds like a fun way to work out! Great nrws about your husband's work prospects, too.
Barb in VA] - I'm so very glad your grandson has someone to run interference for him and find such lovely solutions as the anger journal! I only wish his dad were more capable of empathy. Sounds like he has real control issues.
I'm listening to the lovely rain today on the acrylic roof of my sleeping porch Sound nearly as romantic advance tin roof, but is enough less insistent to be very soothing, so I'm lazing with my cats, catching up on all your news. For some reason it won't let me post a picture, so I'll let you all imagine.

only good thing I can say today is the last 2 days I have gotten over 13,000 steps.. but my ankles are swollen....
I was a blooming mess at the cemetery, like i said Military burials are tough, especially when they present the flag... i croaked out thank you.. then invited everyone over for a really nice spread....and we had about 15 people which was just the right size.. well my girlfriends will be here in a bit and we are going to the fair tonight...5 -

We ended up not going to Nana & Poppy's because we couldn't connect with them. We bought the checkers game. Nana & Poppy are the other grandparents (my daughter-in-law's parents), and my grandson doesn't like visiting them because the visits are long & filled with discussions about finances & logistics, as they are both disabled. My grandson adores them, but he dreads going...so my goal is to take him for 15-20 minute visits every couple of weeks. Maybe he would like to play a game of checkers with Poppy. Then we will leave. Hopefully it will be fun to see them again. They are both "salt of the earth" people. And they are CRAZY over our mutual grandchildren.
We enjoyed Bass Pro Shops and playing hooky. Then we took my disabled brother out for his birthday dinner - really, it was a late lunch. Now we are home. I have to take him back to his house in an hour. His mom is gone for the weekend, so it will be Dad & the kids for the weekend, & I am working, so...I hope it all goes OK...fingers crossed.

Hi all: Gloomy day today. Dog is bored staying indoors and horses are bored too. They are playing with the water tank and have dumped it. Got groceries this morning and am waiting for the service guy from Frontier to come. They gave us two different times and days so don't really know which one they will be here but someone over 18 has to be at home. Our internet has been off and on for about a month now. This is the second time we have contacted them. They did not show up the last time and unfortunately we are in a place where they are the only available service. Yuck! DH got a call from the gastroenterologist and is being referred to an oncologist for tumors on his liver that showed up on MRI Wednesday. I suspected this might happen after they had him do a series of scans after a high alk-phos level on a blood test. Doesn't make it any less disturbing.
Allie - Glad your stressful day is over, enjoy the fair.
Tracey - Interesting workout.
Katla - Glad DH is getting the new brace. Sorry about the yoga.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
I am many, many pages behind so will just say hello!
NYKaren ... enjoy your trip past the Falls and Buffalo!
VA Karen ... you are amazing with your grandson!
Too much going on. My weight is going up. But getting ready for a walk with my husband before it rains! So that's a positive!

We are back from getting DH’s new leg brace. It is amazingly good. He is his balance seems better, & he is walking a LOT better. I know he is more comfortable than he has been in a long time. Yay!!!

Can’t figure out what is wrong with DH and me. We are both so tired and have no energy. Everyday we say we are going to the Y but decide we are too tired. He has a cold and that is part of his problem but I have no excuse. His brother was diagnosed with cancer in June and was given expermental drugs to shrink the tumors as they were too large to do surgery. He had to have his colon removed due to perforations from the chemo or radiation. It was just a bad deal all around. We are so glad we got to spend some time with him before his death.
I am trying to keep up with the thread.

Sue ... this sounds a lot like depression ... hugs3 -
It's not sunny in NW Washington today. Now it is raining and the ground is happy. Since the dogs and I don't mind the rain, it's great for everyone. I had a great visit with my walking friend who had surgery last month followed by an attack of shingles. This has been my first chance to see her since her surgery. We email every day but sitting in her living room was much better. I stayed until my back told me that I had been sitting long enough. She said that she still isn't walking much but feels up to going to a restaurant. Jake wants to take her out to thank her for all the dog walking she did for us when my back was first injured.
My shopping spree is complete. The new indoor winter shoes I want are at the store. They called this morning to tell me to come get them. Yesterday it became clear to me that I wanted a red coat for winter. I bought both my extra warm winter coats in 2009. One is a wool pea coat for special occasions but the other has gone on two to three hours of dog walking daily for nine years and is looking really shabby. I found the coat I want---warm enough for Maine winter walking with lots of pockets for all the stuff I carry with me. It was more expensive than any clothing item I've ever bought but I'd rather have a great coat for me to wear every day than save my money for my step-kids to fritter away on themselves after I die. Jake was so excited that he thought I should buy two of them---one for dog walking and one to wear during the day. I remember what Penny told us "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing."
Allie, I am so glad that your dad's funeral was what you wanted. I still have the flag and one rifle shell from my dad's military funeral.
I just got up from a nap. I highly recommend a nap to anyone who is lacking energy or motivation. Sleep is a great remedy.

I did it 3 times a week to attend U of A, and then drove out to where I worked two days a week. That was my biggest driving semester.
I attended U of A for my last four semesters of my B-Ed.
My first semester, I drove up on Monday, stayed in a hostel on Monday night for the first few weeks but that was awful, so a friend said I could stay with them out in Leduc, then I drove home on Tuesday ... and then up and back on Thursday.
The next semester, I found a room in Edmonton so I drove up on Monday morning and back on Friday afternoon.
The next semester I drove in 3 days a week as mentioned above.
And my last semester was fortunately only 5 weeks and then I had a practicum in Red Deer for the rest of the semester. For those 5 weeks, I rented a room again, only this time, I made a mistake and got a room in the house of a smoker. Blech!!!! I spent a lot of my evenings sitting in the nearby shopping centre's food court doing my homework till the place closed. And she must have wondered about her water bill ... she said I could use her washer and dryer, so I washed my sheets about every other night!Snowflake1968 wrote: »It is a long weekend for me, Thanksgiving here in Canada. Well done on the workout.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
I do miss Thanksgiving a bit ... we never did anything big, but it was nice. There is no Thanksgiving here in Australia. Maybe one year I should put on a Thanksgiving dinner ... and especially make pumpkin pie. Most people in Australia have not had pumpkin pie as a sweet thing!

We're hoping he will get it back again, but he has to pass some testing. He has great procedural memory and his orientation is excellent. So he knows how to drive and knows where he is. But they're concerned about some of the other aspects of driving like decision-making when things don't go smoothly, like when a child or animal suddenly crosses the road or when another driver is being aggressive, etc.
Some of the damage to his brain in the accident has affected those decision-making areas so they want to see how badly they've been affected before they put him behind the wheel of a vehicle.
Also, he needs to have his care hours reduced. If he is being "cared for" 24-hours a day, he won't be deemed responsible enough to drive a car. Which makes sense. If he needs a care worker to ensure he's doing laundry all right, how can they justify sending him out in a motor vehicle?
This is where the difficulties have come up between all the organisations involved in his recovery. One organisation wants to increase his care (perhaps because they're being paid to care for him), one organisation has suggested dropping his care right off (which I'm not comfortable with), one organisation wants to reduce his care, but instead put him into a whole bunch of programs (I looked at one of the programs and it is located quite some distance away and not accessible by bus, so I'm not sure how he was supposed to get there if he doesn't have a carer to drive him, and doesn't have a driver's licence!) ... and it goes on ... each with their own agenda. I've put my foot down and have created my own plan, for now, to which the main ones have reluctantly agreed.
So ... hopefully Rehab will be able to start working toward him getting his licence back soon.
