Asian/Japanese/sushi all-you-can-eat buffet, "cheat-day"?

Hello. :-)
If I am planning to go to such a place, what are the recommendations of what to eat to minimize the fat-gain? I was thinking lean protein (chicken) and grain carbohydrates (like sushi with rice). Also some vegetables to minimize the total calories. Also, to drink some fluids just before to feel more satiated.
I am going for lunch, as breakfast seems too early and leaves a possibility of eating more in the night, and evening meal is too late for the food to properly start moving.
Any thoughts or tips? :-D

When I go to AYCE sushi, all bets are off. I eat what I want and don’t worry about it. I didn’t lose all the weight from one meal, and I’m not going to gain it all back in one meal.
I expect at least a 3 pound swing on the scale the following day from water weight (all the carbs/sodium) and an increased amount of food in transit through my system. It works itself out in a few days.
I just consider it an exercise in real life, where I’m not going to be perfect 100% of the time.15 -

So just eat what you like and dont worry about the gain. Very little will be fat anyway.7 -
Over the years I have learned to handle "normal" buffets (well, sort of) but sushi as much as you can eat? That's another story. Usually I eat about 50 + sushi rolls (pieces) and the restaurant owner doesn't smile much when he sees me coming. I really, really enjoy this special treat about once or twice a year and I leave it as that.0

I wouldn't worry about fat gain from one day. Actual gain happens over time of consistent surplus. I would say maybe don't eat so much that it impairs your workout performance the next day, otherwise, enjoy5

I don't think one meal is sufficient to normalize hormone levels if you're been in a consistent deficit for 10 months.5 -

Maybe a diet break might help? One meal is going to do next to nothing for that.2 -
Hey. Thanks for the replies. Since getting close to my goal weight, I have such days nearly every five days for the last couple of weeks - feel much better but the weight loss reduced from two pounds per week to like 0.50

5 more lbs will put you a hair above underweight. Is there a reason you are aiming so low, especially being a male? What are your goals?4

Don't worry too much about one meal.But if you are doing sushi, focus on sushi that has the least amount of rice (sashimi if it is available), and if you are getting rolls, try to avoid rolls that are tempura (baked) or have cream cheese or a lot of sauces.0

It is one meal. I suppose whatever keeps you in maintenance for the week. If you have lean protein and carbs and are in a surplus, then it is still a surplus. And in the end fat gain happens with consistent surplus over time.
However I would recommend if you are that concerned over one day of eating, being as lean as you are, you might want to stop and re-evaluate why you are so fearful of one meal causing fat gain.3 -
Very good points everyone, very helpful and means a lot. Considering I am near my goal weight I am fine with somewhat a lower deficit. Finally, I had this today: https://imgur.com/a/PkwnfOd Calories are just an estimation but should be decent. Wanted to hit about 4-4.5K today as the next cheat-day is this Sunday but oh well. In the worst case I will maintain and be more rational next time. Open to critique on calorie count. Cheers0

Dvoyc I completely understand what you're going through- going out to eat Italian food with a friend friday night and been surveying the options on the menu. It's just one meal, don't beat yourself up over it. It'll be okay. Even if you ate the healthiest thing on the menu, there's still a chance of a little water weight happening. But water weight will fall right back off in a couple days.
Just my two cents on the subject: if there is something really special on the menu that you can't make at home, can't get anywhere else and you're not going to have it again for a long time, go for that. Make it a treat, have yourself a nice night out and go for something really special.
For example I'm going for Italian food, so I'll probably opt for a veal dish with a small side salad to start. It's something I wouldn't normally have everyday, I don't yet know how to cook it, so I probably won't be having it anytime soon. It will be something special and yet I'm not denying myself anything or beating myself up over it afterwards. The key is balance.1 -
Lol restore lepton and ghrelin after one meal and ten months of cutting.....yeah I wouldn’t focus on those hormones cause they wont be restored like you would with a prolonged refeed or reverse diet. I would rather look at it as holy shyt I’ve Been cutting for ten months I’m gonna enjoy this ayce sushi. What’s a cheat if you’re worried about fat gain...??3

I think this type of advice could be helpful for people who eat out often, but I'd rather eat out less often and order things that I truly enjoy. Life is too short to never enjoy a delicious coconut milk curry.3
