The cold has arrived here and while I am struggling to get outside and walk as I dislike the cold my four legged part of the family won't let me stay inside. He's a great motivation to move.7 -

Hello maintainers! I post from my iPhone and can’t figure out how to cut and paste here without copying the whole thread. My last week stats are upthread.
So, I’m checking in to report I put on 1 pound this past week. Nothing changed food-wise, although it’s still early days for my maintenance. I’m thinking a few more carbs=water (?)
I’m going out of town for a family issue for 2 days this week, going to try and log as best I can. It’s always tricky with needing to be gluten free while traveling anyway.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week/month: i would like to go to the lower end of my range, but it doesn't seem to want to happen. Especially with holidays around the corner, i think i will be more comfortable with a bit of extra room. Problem is, i don't think I want to give up any treats. But also it might be too low of a goal for me. I feel happy where i am now, but still get upset when i see scale numbers jumping up. Even though i know it's not a real gain. Still have to deal with those thoughts two years into maintenance.7 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: My weight is trending down a little bit. I thought I finally had maintenance down, but I guess I don't. Most of the week I was in the 115's and even dropped to 114.6 on Friday. I think that I look good and I feel good. But that is below my set maintenance range. The "healthy" weight range for my height is 106 - 142 so I'm not underweight and I'm not really worried about it. I'm just a little frustrated. I am back up in the 116's though so hopefully the lower weight was just a downward fluctuation and I will start to level out again. I do feel really good about my eating and my exercise and I think I look good, but I guess I need to eat more.4 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week/month: What's that Beyoncé song... something about 'Ring the Alarm'... well, got into a period of relaxing my calorie limit rules oh so frequently. Hehe, rang the alarm, and pulled my socks up - always a pleasant surprise to me how after a few days back on the straight and narrow, it can be smooth sailing again. I'm eating a lot of vegetables and not much sugar and I'm feeling gooooooooood! And although marijuana is now legal in Canada where I live, no I'm not on drugs 😊, just feelin' groovy. Success of the week: Hit my goal weight again, even the revised one at 143. Switched officially back to maintenance as a goal on MFP
Struggle of the week: Went on a tear one day and splurged on a thousand calories over my allotment, and that was my INCREASED allotment after switching my goal back to maintenance.6 -
It's a struggle if you let it be. Consider that you feel like you "should" splurge on a meal out. Well, "should" is the operative word. That's what the struggle is; deciding if you are doing it because you want or you think others want you to. If you want to, that's a success. If you'd rather just eat a nice meal at home, then do it! Splurge a little! Have something you really like but don't make that often. Just have a small appetizer at the big event and enjoy the company.
Now if there turns out to be something you do really want, then go for it!
If it turns out that it isn't as good as the words on the menu describe, well, that's unfortunately really common. I often have a hard time ordering because all the descriptions look awesome. When the plate comes, it's just ok. This is one of the pitfalls of being a good cook. My partner absolutely won't order albacore anywhere because I spoil her with mine (medallions marinated in chile, garlic, soy, sesame and grilled on the cool side of a charcoal grill that has cherry or plum wood smoking on the coals).

Thank you for this. I read it before we went but haven't had a chance to respond until now. What you've described is basically how I've been handling going out to eat. I think a lot of my angst came down to the fact that I'd wanted this to be a night I indulged but there just wasn't anything on the menu that seemed all that appealing.
The specials that night at least sounded better to me and I had a nice butternut squash bisque for a started and pan seared sea bass on a bed of cherry tomatoes, asparagus, and zucchini with them adding in broccoli for me and leaving out the pasta.
Overall it was a nice meal though I have to say that your description of your albacore had me wishing that was an option for me to order - it sounds divine!

Just came here to say I weighed myself this AM and it was 149.8 WTF. I stepped on it again and it said the same thing. Think scale is broken lol I have never fluctuated 5lbs in a day. Especially with my TOM coming up, I usually GAIN a couple pounds during this time. How odd.2 -

I am still only going 2x a week, but I am back to giving 100%. During the week I started a new phase of my program, had some DOMS, saw my weight spike to the top of my range for a few days. I'm pretty confident I was retaining water, because it's back down, trend is barely changed. I like using a trend weight!6 -

Struggles/successes: Had a week off work this week (school half term) and just been very snacky at home. Although I’ve kept up the home workouts, lack of childcare has stopped me getting out to my usual hot yoga classes. My weight is up but only now hitting the bottom of my maintenance range, after a low summer. Not sure whether to drop down my maintenance range, but techically that puts me below healthy BMI...
It’s tricky - I loved the ab definition I had at my super low weight and felt properly ‘shredded’, but my chest was definitely a bit sad and arguably looks better now or even at a higher weight. I know you can’t spot reduce - wish I could spot gain! I would happily eat more for boobs and bum!
My measurements haven’t really changed and it’s only a couple of pounds difference (some of which could just be water weight) so it’s probably mostly in my head.
I’m also heading towards my 40th and just want to feel really good. So I’m going to tighten up on logging, cut down on snacking and stick to my usual activity and see where I end up.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week/month: I have more energy now during work and find that, in comparison to my current status of not snacking mindlessly during work, that all that mindlessly snacking in the past at work actually made me more sluggish and less focused on completing my tasks. So you a definite success these past two months has been eating mindfully, usually after I have left the office for the day and/or when I am at home, relatively relaxed and more or less work is done for the day, with my family.
Another success is that I keep working out every morning, at least six days a week. It's made me more fit than I have ever been in the past ten years. I am so so thankful for that, because as a teacher I am always on my feet and need to keep fit to do that with relative ease.7 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Both my weight and my trend are back up this week. My weight is back in range and the trend is just a little below range. It is so frustrating to me though. I have been trying to eat a little more because I have been under my maintenance range. So it is good that my weight is up a bit. But it is still hard to see the numbers going up even though I still need to go up a little more to be "in range". I think I just have a fear that once the weight starts going up it will just keep rising. When I look at my weight for the year I can definitely see that I am maintaining. I just wish I could relax about it a little more and know that I am maintaining.10 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week/month: Still comfortably on the straight and narrow, and glorying in how good it feels, physically and mentally, to be off the "overeating" merry-go-round. And I am constantly pointing this out to myself in an effort to stop myself from glorifying an overeating session. My latest entertainment is to work on verifying my maintenance calories, by comparing my expected weight loss with my actual weight loss. Finally, after more than a year on maintenance!
So, for the week ending October 28th:
Net calories 1320. Average daily deficit 230. Expected loss 0.460 lbs. [corresponding to TDEE 1550]
Actual loss 0.8... which corresponds to a TDEE of 1740.
Meanwhile Trendweight is saying I'm losing 0.8 per week, at a daily deficit of 420... which again corresponds with 1740.
TENTATIVE CONCLUSION: Net Maintenance Calories: 1740.
I expect this figure to bounce around week by week, so plan to average it out over time. And when I finally arrive at what I feel is a reliable number, I think I will celebrate by eating at that level for a time - that will be a thrill because generally I have been overeating, or eating at a deficit.
