Would you ever take it a step further and offer hands on help? Like volunteering at a soup kitchen or helping at a community garden?
Honestly i would love to but that type of scene wouldn’t suit me. Im not the type who wants everyone to see what im doing when helping others. Im the type that would buy food and leave it next to a homeless while they are sleeping, or just drop some bills on the cup and be on my way. I dont mind doing labor as long as no one is around though. Basically i dont want physical recognition. I specially asked the few i helped to not say anything on this site
Dude i promise you if you went down on any given day and volunteered at a soup kitchen rhere wouldnt be anyone there to give you accolades and praise. Its just helping feeding hungry people and its as anonymous as it gets. A lot of people get all into the spirit during the holidays and want to help, thats when it gets a little self serving. But on a weekday in October, nobody will ever know you were there....except the few people that ate that day. And most times even those people are not even acknowledging.12 -

I sat down and counted my tattoos one night, with help, and found out I have 41. For some reason I'm very proud of it.3

If that is your comfort dial Lee, helping at a Food Pantry, if it is something you'd want to do is also SUPER helpful. Most would appreciate a few bags, crates of pantry food items, especially around the colder seasons. You may choose to be anonymous that way.
Either way, it's very generous of you to have assisted some members on MFP. Having been burnt in the past helping out financially, I prefer to go the food pantry route now with my support.4 -

Completed my bachelor's degree without needing to take out any loans and was at the top of my class.
I'm an excellent chef.
Oh and to my nieces and nephew, I'm the best uncle in the world!5 -

the main reason for not wanting confrontation honestly is, well, i actually work only 2 blocks away from a rescue mission in the city, which i pass by everyday im in office, and its always been less than pleasant with them.
def not saying its how they all are, but it just kinda put my mood off a lot.

I was just sharing with k8eekins that helping within their lines of sight could be a security risk, bearing in the fact that you likely live close by (NY planning) and that you tend to walk quite a bit.

Its a pretty easy accomplishment when the oldest is only 4 lol. I'm sure one day I'll be the crazy uncle with corny jokes and embarrassing them in front of their friends.3 -

i was let go from my job when my boss found out i was pregnant *yes it was a thing back in the day 26 years ago*, so i decided i would start volunteering, as i knew taking on a new job when i knew i'd be staying at home after my first child was born for quite some time was not in my best interest.
these were some of the most rewarding, heartbreaking, and humbling experiences i ever had before i had my own children. i initially started volunteering at my city's children's hospital, just sitting/holding babies who weren't allowed to go home just yet* me with full on mask and gear on* when their parents weren't able to be there and nurses weren't there to assist.
there was so little protocol back then to be a volunteer - but perhaps because i was healthy back then and obviously pregnant, they just took me on as there was such a need for assistance. i found it more emotionally demanding than i could have ever imagined, to be given the privilege to hold these precious and delicate small beings whose parents and caregivers just needed a break. it made being pregnant with my own first child all the more important.
after a while it became a little too much to bear emotionally for me, so i volunteered at a food bank daily - which i found extremely gratifying. to be able to assist those who were in such dire need, and to give them a non judgmental smile and the minimal of food necessities made me realize how extremely lucky i was to have my own food at home that was so easy to access.
finally - i volunteered up until i gave birth to my son, to take a little metis boy to the library and read with him daily after kindergarten. his mom wasn't really pro active or interested in me taking him - but her name was given to me through a literacy program in our city. he was such a darling little sunshine of a boy and we had a connection that i'll never forget. he would grab my hand as soon as i took him out his apartment and into the car. he'd chatter to me at the back seat of my car as we'd be on our way to the library. because i was so big at that point, we'd sit beside each other on the floor of the children's section of the libary and i'd read my favorite children's books to him. people thought he was my son as he was metis like me and olive skinned like me too. he'd hug me at the door to his mom's subsidized housing unit before she'd greet him. and seriously - i don't know who got more out of the experience - him or me. i had real love for that little man. he prepared me in some divine way to become a mother to my children .
i am proud i raised my children - absolutely. but i'm also glad i was able to give something back to my metis little brother, and also to the less fortunate people in my community. i learned more in those seven months than i ever did from my degrees and my work experience. i learned about humanity,compassion and unconditional love.

I sat through six hours in one session for my first tattoo last weekend. Apparently, I get kudos for doing that as a lot of people can't endure more than 3-4 hours. Perhaps I was ambitious for my first tattoo, lol? Pretty sure I'm addicted now.
Also, the design is a collaboration between my drawings and the drawings of the tattoo artist. Which just makes it more special for me.
