My plan is to run the Route 66 Marathon (Tulsa) as my last race this year. Then I'm going to switch to losing body fat / trying to lean out before next year. I'll probably run during the last half of the month after switching, but will be slower and might even end up cutting back.
This year??? 2018? Tulsa has a great running community. If you do it next year, we may put that on on the books and catch up with you. We did Jenks a few years back. I was 4-5 months post Nerve impingment surgery. That was dumb. But great course and folks.2 -

Looks like today will be a rest day, thanks to the rain and cold.
Intervals tomorrow.0 -
Has anyone ever used/ played in the RunBet app? My daughter did it while training for the Big Sur Marathon but then got hurt and had to drop out at like 14 weeks -with just a few weeks to go. She paid $60 and if she did the required # of runs each week, she would get to split the pot at the end.
I just emailed them to ask if they are going to have a Holiday Streak RunBet.
Sorry if this has been discussed... even though I'm on here I just don't have time to read everything. You guys are all just too amazing!2 -
Hi, I’m new to the group and after a 6 year break (sciatic and digestive issues), I'm returning to running. I just completed my first half in 6 yrs this past weekend and am hungry for more! Going for 50 miles this month. Fingers crossed.12

November 1 - 11 km
Total distance 11 km - goal 300 km
Not quite as far as I wanted to run. I run early in the morning and it was 27 Celsius at 4.30 am. So cut it short.5 -

I did the Run with Meb challenge this summer. It was $40 and I "won" less than $2. I haven't cashed out yet in case I decide to do another one but I'm not 100% sure it's worth it for such little return. Based on the number of people that played vs completed I think it should have been more but apparently their fees are super high.3 -

@Elise4270 Yes, 2018. It's coming up Nov. 18 if my calendar is correct. After that, I'll still run, but going to probably have to slow down and/or cut back as I try to lose body fat.2 -
I am in the 100 mile club again for November. I ran 120 miles in October and would have run more if not for temporary sidelining.
What have I done for my future self?
I became a healthy weight from morbidly obese.
I started running and lifting weights.
I am furthering my education.
@hanlonsk Thank you for the recommendation and for tagging me here as I had not seen this thread yet.
@Avidkeo I hear you. I used to wear a 44F. I lost 115 pounds (found 15 of them again) and now wear a 38C.
Oh I wish I was a C! 32f is frustrating cause apparently you aren't supposed to have big boobs if you are a size 10/12. Grrr. I started as a G at my heaviest so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. If I had a spare 15k, I'd get a reduction. Fortunately I don't get any medical problems from them - or unfortunately cause if I did then I'd be covered.0 -
Hi all, 10k this morning and it felt great after the tightness and pain the last couple of days. So far my back is feeling a lot better - I got a yoga session in last night and it definitely seemed to help. I'm a little tight still in my hip flexors but nothing serious whew. So lesson is it will probably take a week to recover from the HM, so go easy on your self.
With 2 weeks to go, im wondering what do I do after it. I want to keep up my ability to run as I have a run mapped out every 3 months. What do you all do? Just run what you feel like with a long run on the weekend? I assume long runs of around 15-16ks are good to keep HM conditioning? I could jump into an intermediate plan, cause I like having a plan to follow, and I feel like im moving up now (though that will depend how the HM actually goes).3 -
yay door county got a write up in competitor running3

Ha, crack that whip! I need to get started on November because this Halloween chocolate is adding up.
You have so many races lined up! Do you race your hardest in them all? Or do you treat some more as training runs?
I race the road events and try not to fall down on the trail events!!6 -
I heard rumours about a fb group? And @ContraryMaryMary there's a half at the villa Maria Estate in January... I want to tag you.... Lol
Actually, I gave flagged that one as a possibility, but January is so hot!3 -
Wow - November 1, 1:30 pm and we're already at page 6???? Fantastic!
Completely fell apart in October - I don't know if it was two halfs two weekends in a row that did me in - or if it's the fact that it's still dark at 7 am and I struggle just to get out of bed. I'm probably one of the few people looking forward to the time change so that I can run again in the morning.
Missed my goal last month by a long shot but have to get serious about training for Sedona. This month's goal is 60 miles.3 -

Ah, you forget the international community. It’s nearly 8am on the 2nd here!!6 -
Hi! It’s been a while since I’ve posted. My goal is 30 miles this month. 1 Mile a day. It’s probably going to be the treadmill today, but that’s ok, I’m lucky I have one (staying with an attitude of gratitude).6
-
Probably will be starting November on a big fat 0. Sitting around now waiting on a contractor to arrive, then have parent-teacher conferences. Yay.6
-
Hello! I'm new to this thread. My company just opened up an in-office gym so I am challenging myself to go every weekday this month! My goal is 22 miles which is 22 more miles than I have done all year!
1 mile down today! 21 to go!15 -
@girlinahat Thanks! And I love the sound of that SayYesMore group. One thing I have noticed is I am getting more cautious as the years go by. It would be great to get back to some adventure!
@ContraryMaryMary Smart plan! I should try some trail races. The elevation sure would benefit me since it is very flat where I live. I am a little afraid. I have only done ones that had a likelihood to be dry. I believe our terrain and weather in Vancouver is very similar to much of New Zealand.
Most of our trail courses are rough mountain paths and involve some water crossing (trail runners, is this normal?). I hate the idea of intentionally getting my feet wet early in a race lol. It rains enough here that it is going to happen without running through streams, creeks, rivers. Do you bring a change of clothes to not ruin your car with mud and water? Do you get used to running with sopping wet feet? Oh, so many questions!2 -

I’m not a fan of getting wet and muddy but having good socks helps a lot. And yes, a change of clothes is vital - for warmth on the ride home more than anything - and I have a plastic boot liner that I put over my car seat if I don’t change out of wet shorts.
I’m learning to love trail more and more, but would rather have stream crossings than mud and now select my routes to suit!!2 -
11/1 = 18 miles
I have been running... but I have not checked in here since my half last Saturday. I hope everyone is having fun racing/healing/running/training!
I am a billion posts behind. I did my first (1 of 2) 18 mile training run this morning. So, right NOW I am laying on the couch elevating my sore legs (that are currently clad in super-sexy knee high compression socks). I am going to wait until tomorrow to make up a monthly mileage goal. Right now I want to say....18 miles for November.
Oh, I got a free entry for another half in December so I am adding that to the list. It is a nighttime half outside of San Antonio. I have never done a half at night. It should be interesting. I need to practice with a headlamp thingy. I have knuckle-lights for when I run super early. This race make you do the headlamp thing for safety. Any purchase suggestions?
November goal miles = ? / 18 miles-to-date
Upcoming Races:
11/11 = Hill County Trivium (just doing the half)
11/22 = Georgetown Turkey Trot
12/15 = Stars at Night Half
1/26/19 = Miami Tropical 5K
1/27/19 = Miami Marathon
3/10/19 = ZOOMA half (potentially)
5/4/18 = Wisconsin Marathon (mittens challenge part 1)
5/5/18 = Kalamazoo Marathon (mittens challenge part 2)5 -
@Elise4270 Monthly Question: What have I done for my tomorrow self?
This is a hard question for me! I don’t run for my “tomorrow self”. I run to keep my current self sane.
Well, I guess I recently helped my future self... I just told my boss at my second job (I work one full-time and a separate half-time job) that I had to cut my hours. I would like to only work 6 days a week. Only having 1-2 days off of work a month is definitely driving my future self into an early grave.11 -
@Elise4270 Monthly Question: What have I done for my tomorrow self?
I honestly do not know how to answer that question. I started MFP 1212 days ago. I never gave much thought to tomorrow since in my mind, tomorrow is not promised. I started with small goals, but never considered "tomorrow". I just wanted to keep "just for today" in my head. I started at 223 lbs and here I am at 120 lbs. I started walking daily and progressed to running. I have now been with this challenge group, I think a year come December. Someone asked me recently about my running (why) and I stated, "because I can." That is the same for weighing my food and planning my meals, counting my calories every single day...because I can, just for today.

November goal: 50 miles
11/1: 3 miles5 -
3.0 Miles of Treadmill "Hills" (mostly at 15% incline). Mostly walking, and a lot of holding on. This is a sign I need much more of this until I get much better.

Monthly question
I've challenged my future self to try and and qualify for Boston 2020. That means that current self:- never lets future self out of sight while training
- is continously training, so that tomorrow self has small increments of improvement that will ultimately help serve future self
- has picked out the race that future self must run and has sorted out all the logistics
- has dieted to get rid of the weight gain of past self, and is challenging tomorrow self to be sensible through the holiday season
- has invested in tests and technology to help ensure that HR-based training is as accurate and effective as possible
With that, today was a recovery run: 9 miles solo, and 5 miles with the running group. It felt much chillier this morning, with a northerly wind bringing feels-like temps down to the upper 40s (it was in the 70s just two days ago). Also, as I'm now no longer on call, I'm looking forward to tomorrow's planned 22-miler.
01 - 14.71
Total: 14.71 / 300 miles
15 -
I just happened upon this while searching for a way to get back to running regularly after an injury I’m finally healed from. I’ve gained 15 pounds from becoming sedentary and I want to lose that plus 20 more. I went from a 9 min mile to now being able to walk/run for 30 minutes so my goal for November is to get in no less than three 30 minute walk/jogs per week and then for December I’ll set a mile goal!12
-
Nov. 1st - 6.73 miles - set a new pr for fastest 10k! 1:01, so close to getting it under one hour!13
-
impromptu rest day. Glutes are super sore from tabata today. Oh well. Will roll them out and run tomorrow.5
