Wore my interview suit for the first time in about 3 months (it's not been a good job hunt recently...) and I had to punch a new hole in the belt. Now this isn't too much of a big thing, because the waist has always been too big on the trousers so the belt has always been important to actually hold my trousers up, however, the difference between my last punched hole and this one was around 2 inches.
Not only that, the whole suit seemed a little large over all. And the shirt I wore with it, I've put a safety pin to stop the top from gaping across the bust, well, I don't think I need the safety pin any more.
I also think I might need to think about going bra shopping because I'm definitely starting to see some gaping around the top of the cups. my poor boobs26 -
I realized as I walked to my locker in the lock room after swimming that I can start to see the shape of abdominal muscles under the thinning blanket that covers them.
My core muscles have been solid for years. A lot of the fat was interpose. Used to joke in karate class that I had hard fat when someone kicked me in the gut and weren't expecting solid.
But I I still looked round.
I'm finally starting to a little definition.
I'm too old and my skin not as elastic anymore to think I'll have a six pack someday. But I can still dream.29 -
I can zip up my winter jacket that I couldn't zip up last year.36

(That's a nice way to say my arms are like noodles and my conditioning is nowhere near an 11 min. mile). I'm seriously inspired by my partner. She's awesome and I want to bump my fitness up to that level (which counters the other half of me that desires only to be lazy, but that's neither here nor there! ). Each of the challenge events (we get points for attempting, not just placing), she's pretty far ahead of me. Except one. The 500m row (how quickly you can row 500m/timed cardio event) we did the day before Thanksgiving... I was only 20s behind her. This is amazing to me. I felt so accomplished! The weights we've been doing (we were doing a strength/weight lifting routine before the challenges) have been paying off. We both decided to add in the timed row at the end for cardio / full body burn since we did so well.
Boy did I feel it. That night, making my bread turkey army was difficult since the dough I was working with stubbornly resisted any rolling out, so I had to sculpt them turkeys by hand! I definitely regretted the soreness, lol!
Well done for your fitness challenge - my mind is boggling at the prospect of a bread turkey army though?? Kneading and rolling dough is a great exercise for 'bingo wings' 😉 x
Thank you, @motivatedmartha! They turned into more of an elite squad than an army (unlike last year where I had many turkeys to eat). Here they are, in their delicious glory:
The NSV part of this (so as to not derail the thread) is that prior to 2012 and engaging in a vastly different life, them turkeys would have been extinct before the sun went down on Thanksgiving Day. This year? They did hit the endangered list on Turkey Day, but they managed to hold out until the last turkey fell last night. YUM YUM!
And I still managed to be overall down this morning (I had a lot of Thanksgiving Water Weight to dance with lol). So WIN WIN, I SAY.
Until next year, turkeys.
ETA: don't mind the guy in the back with the broken neck. An unfortunate accident must have happened in the oven. He was still perfectly delicious.14 -
This morning at spin class, the location's new-ish program director sat in on our spin class for the first time. After class, I decided to do a few minutes on the rowing machine besides, and went up to the main desk to report a problem with its monitor.
As soon as she saw me, the director started absolutely gushing at some length in an almost embarrassingly over the top way about how hard I was working in class, and that it was inspirational, and I don't know what-all, then topped it off by gesturing at me full-length with a wave of her hand, and saying "but of course that's why you look like this".
She can see my age (63) by looking at me, and maybe part of the reaction is therefore low expectations? But she has no idea that a mere 4 years ago at 59, I was obese. (Doing the same spin class in the same way, BTW ).28 -
Yesterday I upped my long run from 3 miles to 4! And I’ve managed to get my pace down from a 12 minute mile to 11:30 minutes.30

A guy at my gym came up to me yesterday. He said 2-3 of his coworkers toured the gym to see if they wanted to sign up. They told him I was "a beast". Apparently I was deadlifting when they came through. :blushing:31

Last month I climbed Everest on a bicycle!
OK will admit that's not strictly true and reality isn't anywhere close.
Everest is 8848m high and my elevation gain from my bike rides in October was 8904m as a personal challenge to improve my hill climbing ability.
That is inspirational. My winter/spring goal is to purposefully add climbing to my rides. I've heard of people "Everesting" - climbing the equivalent of Everest in a day - that's crazy.
My goal is less aggressive. I want to be able to comfortably take a group ride through the Redwoods in California next summer. There is a lot of sustained climbing at 4%-6%. That's not terrible, but more than my normal rides here at home.12 -
I went completely off the rails for about a week, for the blasted Thanksgiving parties (yes, more thank one, 3 actually) that I went to. The food was just too tasty and too rare to not indulge. I could have (and normally would have) stayed in this defeated mindset (I put on like 8 pounds in a week). Last night I decided to not let it continue being a slide completely backwards, so I meal prepped. And today I restart, but admitting that I've LEARNED a lot. It's ok to enjoy food...but that's it's equally important to know when enough is enough..and then get back with the regime that works. Eating well, water, and exercise!39

Here’s my NSV for the week: as I was sitting at my kitchen table, I was starting to get uncomfortable. I could feel my *bones* on the hard chair! My extra padding is going away!31

I can wear dangly earrings again. For years I would put some on and they just looked weird with my fat face and huge neck. I thought that it was just me getting old---nope it was just me getting fat. Now I can be the cool old broad again. (I do have purple hair--heck when you're 69 you can do anything!)37

My husband and I got home from running and our neighbor across the way came over to talk to us. We know her to wave at and my husband once gave her a ride somewhere, but otherwise we don't really speak. She said she wanted to apologize to us because she had been thinking bad thoughts about my husband. She had been thinking for several weeks that he had dumped his wife for a younger woman, and since his wife seemed like a nice lady that was a terrible thing to do. Then she got a good look at us today and realized the "younger woman" was me all along!
She asked me what I did to lose weight and I recommended MFP to her.93 -

Tonight my calorie limit would have abided either an apple for dessert, or a tiny peanut butter and chocolate truffle. I chose the apple because it actually sounded BETTER! I don’t even know who I am anymore.33

Have you ever bought a "One Size Fits All" Robe that looked like one for a small child when you got it?! It's been hanging on my bedroom door hook for the longest time. I put it on yesterday, and it's roomy! Yay!

My mom told me I look smaller than I was in high school. And I feel like I was average weight in high school.27

That's all I could run 7 weeks ago and I felt like I was going to die, now I can for 52 mins. As soon as you get started, it gets surprising how quickly it gets easier and easier. At the moment, I don't find running much harder than walking, and it's heaps easier to run than it was to walk when I got my fitbit on July 3 this year. Then walking 2.7 km walking was agony.
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing and inspiring!5 -
My completely non-confrontational, conflict avoidance, hard time telling the truth if I think it will hurt others self - answered honestly and respectfully when DH asked if I needed more alone time. I DO! And he was understanding - a great lesson and step in the right direction for speaking my truth all the time!36

I need to get a new jacket; my old winter jacket is way too baggy. I was checking out some styles by trying on my kids jackets. One is a small that fits.25

I’ve dropped another cup size in my bras. Plus, they’ve now got a smaller strap at the back29

Ha! @Jedi_Jo I just got on here to say the same thing!! I’m down from a 34G to a 34DD! Just finished doing crunches and it didn’t feel like I was suffocating! Farewell to my twins Helga and Olga!28

Went shopping at one of my favorite clothes stores, was looking on the side of store where plus sizes are which is where I've always looked. Once of the Clerks told me to "go to the other side of the store where I belonged as the plus sizes were too big". I haven't shopped regular sizes in YEARS.37

The fat is finally disappearing from my thighs. I can see two particular lumps and bumps reducing when I look in the mirror.
On my worst days my diet may live or die by the number on the scale because I couldn't see any progress (despite clothes being looser - I still felt massive on my thighs). I finally feel like the number on the scale doesn't matter as I can now see I am losing from where I want it gone.25 -
I just realized... I am now 4kg less than my driver's license weight. This happened without me even realizing it!!31

I had someone who has known me well for 2 years (we see each other twice a week) walk into a room to find me in a small group of women and kids. She did not recognize me until I turned around. Yes, my caboose is shrinking. Woohoo!24

My first post-cancer 5K, followed by a second 5K three days later. Shaving 7 minutes off the time between the two (in fairness, each time I purposely slowed the pace for family members or friends).31
