I’m on day 2. Lost 2lbs in just 1 day.

Anyone else doing it right now? Would be lovely to motivate each other!

Yes. I was providing a general baseline for point of illustration. (Almost) nobody burns anywhere close to 7000 calories in a day. The point was that loses from these cleanses are not fat loss but rather water and waste loss, since it is not humanly possible to lose that much fat in one day.

cleanses are just a glorified laxative in most cases. so yeah its not true weight I agree there.

Why does the body need a cleanse? Go have a bath if you want to cleanse. You may lose weight but in a few weeks time you will be back to square one

    But....why?

I did a “cleanse” a year ago and lost five pounds. It was gastric flu and violently cleansed EVERYTHING. But I put the weight back on once I could actually leave the bathroom. Do a cleanse if you want to - it is your body - but it won’t be sustainable and might make you feel weak / lead to a binge.

I was reading this and thinking about how much I like math. 7lbs of fat in 10 days would be a daily deficit of 2450 calories. Depending on age, height, and weight, OP may not even burn that much in a day. Add in the calories from the green smoothie, and to lose that much fat per day a person would have to be eating nothing else but the smoothie and then working out a fair amount on top of that. Sounds like a bad way to go. But hey, what do I know?

The scary thing is I think some people do exactly that...drink the smoothie and no other food, and then work out a lot. I'm with you, though. I'd prefer to eat moderately, work out moderately, and lose weight at a healthy pace.

OP - one of the most useful aspects of the MFP community forums are the bookmarked 'sticky' posts at the top of each forum section.

Do yourself a favor and take some time to read through the posts that are relevant to the ideas you are working with. THere are many to read through, and there is this one in particular that contains a lot of information on the subject of cleanses.

This is the kind of thread where I'd really love to see a response from the OP indicating whether the overwhelming advice of many experienced users has had any effect on them. :)

How does telling someone a green smoothie cleanse is unnecessary cause them to binge??? Honestly, a 10 day smoothie cleanse is more likely to cause a binge

Yup. After ten days of not eating enough or not eating food that is emotionally satisfying, high likelihood of rebound immediately after.

I joined the 10 day smoothie cleanse facebook support group awhile ago just for kicks and giggles because I was curious it's crazy how many people do lose weight but I know it's just water weight or weight that will def be gained back after the 10 days I would be lying if I said I didn't think about starting the cleanse as a kick off to weight loss but decided it was just a binge fest waiting to happen I do have a friend that spent $80 buying the book and all the ingredients for 10 days and she only made it to day 2 because she said the smoothies tasted gross. so that was a huge waste. I do drink a smoothie sometimes in the morning for breakfast that is about 380 calories
