I want to lose about 50 lbs but I don't know what meal plan to follow. Should I go vegan?? What would I eat everyday?

To lose weight, you simply need a calorie deficit, which means you eat fewer calories than you burn (through daily activity and exercise). There's no specific meal plan that is optimal for weight loss - what different ways of eating can do is help you manage your food intake, and therefore help you stay in a calorie deficit. The best meal plan is one where you like and enjoy what you are eating, and including foods which help you reach your goals, and that is very personalized thing.8

It's this^
Eating a specific way for weight loss and then attempting maintenance with your "usual" foods is short sighted. A smaller you is going to require somewhat fewer calories forever. It's best to design a food plan that includes foods you like. Learn portion control for all foods, not just "diet" foods.6 -
Thank you. I think I'm going to try to go Vegan. I want to eat healthy as possible8

Eat food you like, in portion sizes that put you in a calorie deficit.
Eat some fruit and veg
Do some exercise you enjoy for good health.3 -

Yes, though it's harder to get a balanced diet being vegan.
As long as you're going to do your homework about how to meet your nutritional needs with a vegan diet then go for it.
Good luck!1 -

It's actually quite a bit more difficult as a vegan. It can be done but it's harder. Most vegans I know chose it for ethical reasons.5 -

You can do it as a non-vegan too. Are you already vegan? If not, and you don’t feel a strong ethical draw to veganism, you’re just upping the level of difficulty on this process by a factor of a million.
Are you thinking vegan because you’re not sure what to eat so it seems easier to pick a method that already has stringent guidelines for what is/isn’t allowed?

As others here have said, it’s best to do something that’s sustainable for you. Eat the foods you already enjoy, but just less of them.
As you begin tracking your intake with MFP, you’ll notice trends and pay attention to how certain foods make you feel. I, too, have gone the super-restrictive route in the past, and yet here I sit, at my heaviest weight ever. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.3 -
Why not start by logging the food you eat now for a couple of weeks.
From there you can start reducing what you eat and finding what is satiating to you.
You are looking to fulfil your nutritional goals (eating ‘healthy’ may do this) in the long term. That means getting enough protein and fat, filling in with carbs, and making sure your micros are met most of the time.
If, as you are working out what foods satisfy you, you find a plant based diet will be a maintainable option, go for it. You may find a slow transition while you learn how to meet your nutritional goals helpful.
But know it is a calorie deficit that is needed to lose weight, and meeting one’s nutritional goals will help with good health, not going vegan.
Choose a way of eating that you can maintain for life, not just for weight loss.
Cheers, h.8 -

No, I'm not vegan at all. I tried veganism a few months ago and failed. None of the dishes I prepared were good at all. But I thought I'd give it another try since everyone is shouting that veganism is the way to go to be healthy and stay young.7 -
Vegan is an ethical choice, not a weight loss diet.11

So is your plan to eat vegan to lose weight and then go back to an eating plan that includes meat after you've lost weight?
Btw, I gained lots of weight when I was a vegan eating all of those delicious vegan carbs. Vegan or not, calories are still what matters for weight loss.4 -

Oreos are vegan. A vegan lifestyle is no magic charm for eating healthy.
Also, veganism is an ethical opposition to animal cruelty, and it goes beyond what you eat.4 -

This. I have never tried to go the Vegan route because I love meat and cheese too much.
Eating vegan or “healthy” won’t magically make you lose weight, OP. At the end of the day, calories are what matter for weight loss. Hypothetically speaking, you could eat nothing but steak all day long and, as long as you’re in a calorie deficit you’ll lose weight. I’m in no way advocating eating only one food - that’s likely a recipe for nutritional issues, but it goes to show that any one food isn’t the enemy in terms of weight loss.2 -

Everyone...on Instagram and Pinterest?
“Healthy” includes any diet that includes foods that give you the protein, fiber, carbs, fat, as well as vitamins and minerals that you need.
And I hate to burst your bubble, but we can’t stay young. That’s pretty much the only guarantee in life is that each year that passes, we’ll be a year older.

I’m coming off one year of being vegan (with a goal of maintaining, not losing, in fact gained 9#). I Literally couldn’t get out of bed on Friday. Hit a wall.
I felt great the first six months of being WFPB. It was great for me learning to like, eat and cook with a bunch of new vegetables. I truly think it helped heal my gut. But my energy dipped lower and lower.
I’m glad I did it, but I knew going in that it wasn’t likely to be forever. I will continue to avoid dairy, but am adding in fish and eggs.
Do your homework and remember that vegan cookies are still cookies.

🤷♀️ I know a lot of people on keto, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for everyone.6 -
