Ok, i am always hungry... so recently tried taking a tablespoon of coconut oil in the am. It does fill me up, but makes me nautious. If I put it in coffee, it doesn’t bother me, but does not fill me up as much. Just curious if I’m still getting the full benefit of coconut oil when I put in coffee?

Eating coconut oil is hype. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10713937/one-tablespoon-of-coconut-oil-a-day17

What about a tbsp of peanut butter instead? Fats are good for satiety and it won't make you nauseous.8

Yes you will still be getting around 117 calories whether you eat it or drink it. Personally I would prefer to eat those calories from a food that I liked and didn't make me nauseous. Tablespoon of Peanut butter for example is scrummy, still filling though.6

What benefit are you looking for, other than fullness, that you think coconut oil would provide?
Eating it in coffee shouldn't be much different from eating it on its own, nutritionally. (I don't really see why it would be more/less satiating either way, but I'm willing to believe it is, for you, because satiation seems to be complicated and very individual).
Do fats satiate you as a generality? If so, what about trying other foods with fat, like peanut butter or cheese or bacon?
Most of the other purported benefits are, as noted in your other thread linked above, exaggerated.3 -

I agree. What a waste of calories! But I thought I'd suggest the peanut butter because at least it sounds decent in comparison... And if OP is convinced that the oil makes her full, then so be it.5 -

Thank you! I’ll try that instead!1 -

Hi, I was mainly looking to not be so hungry all the time and always thinking about food. So, I’ll try peanut butter instead and see if that helps. Thank you!3 -
Fat is linked to satiety. It's no surprise that by eating some fat it might help with your hunger pangs. If you want to test your satiety from fat, eat a very high fat breakfast a couple of days in a row. Some bacon, eggs, butter, avocado, coconut etc. whatever you prefer. Count the calories, don't eat any more calories than you normally would and see what happens. My guess is you'll feel fuller longer.5

If your goal by eating coconut oil is to be full then why don't you eat actual food... maybe I'm missing something here.9

Hi, I tend to stress eat. So am trying to prevent that because when I’m full, I tend to not stress eat as much. I’m guessing my fat consumption was not high enough. After 10 yeArs of being within my goal range... I put on 10 pounds last yeAr that I am having trouble with.4 -

If you mean filling you up, your own experience is that you don't get the full benefit in coffee.5 -
so you eat a spoonful of fat and feel nauseous but if you put the spoonful of fat into your coffee you dont get nauseous. You are wonder if you still get the fat from drinking the coffee you put the fat into? Yeah you still get the fat.
If you dont like having to do that I guess you could try eating spoonfulls of other types of fat like butter or bacon lard or crisco or other vegetable shortenings or oils and see if there is one that doesn't make you naseous.
Or, you know, just dont eat spoonfuls of fat.12 -
Just a thought - are you always hungry because you have set your calories unrealistically low ?10

Plain fat does zip for me for satiety, but people are different.
I'd eat nuts or cheese if I just wanted some fat in the morning (with a bit of protein too). Or full fat greek yogurt if I wanted more protein plus fat. All of those taste good to me.
I do better with fat, fiber, and protein, so eat vegetable omelets.6 -
i ve never understood this very stupid trend. why the heck would you want to eat a spoon of fat? if you need more calories or fat in your diet, there are plenty of food sources that are far tastier and less .... icky to consume.6

Two eggs and cheese might fill you up just the same (higher fat) and not make you nauseous (and not really that many more calories).4

Just my 2 cents worth but I started slowly gaining too after being in maintenance and found I wasn't getting enough protein. You might try increasing protein and lowering carbs a bit and see if you are more satisfied. My fat is already higher than MFP default but my carbs were too high for me. I just seemed to be hungry all the time. That said, an egg or some peanut butter would give you some protein as well as the fat. Good luck and congrats on maintaining for so long!2

Are you doing anything to manage the stress? If eating is your coping mechanism, have you replaced in or are you only trying to remove it?3 -

Yep, yiou are right! I probably need to work on mindful habits to reduce stress! I have been walking at lunch during work, which had helped a little. Ty for reminder!1 -
weight loss can be a happy journey of discovering healthy foods that are tasty and satisfy, embarking on a new relationship with food. Or? it can be grueling and long suffering experience in deprivation and doing things..like eating something that makes you sick to feel full.
please reconsider.. you don't have to do that.7 -
I tried that too, when the trend first started. It didn't work for me either and it didn't help my hunger. I definitely agree with others, to try different breakfasts- try higher fat, or higher protein, etc. Honestly, when I'm losing weight, I'm hungry all the time. It just is what it is, and it's how my body is. Even when I know my calories aren't unrealistic and I'm getting the right nutrients, my body is set to be hungry basically unless I'm overeating. So I know it's frustrating.3
