My Three Reasons are...
1) Healthy Pregnancy in The Future (Be able to see my belly grow.)
2) More Energy and Confident in My Clothes (Confident going Shopping)
3) 10% of me, really just wants to brag that I finally did it! (To the people who didn't believe in me.)

1.) Healthier for me. My family has a history of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cholesterol/blood pressure problems so I'm trying to avoid them and help my body.
2.) Simply because I want to look better. I want to look good in my clothes, I don't want to hate myself looking in the mirror, I want to be able to look good and be comfortable wearing cute dresses, crop tops, a bikini, etc.4 -
1) to fix my health issues and have a healthy and fit body for my future... Bf and kids one day maybe
2) to regain my confidence in myself and the body I have and to be confident wearing less clothes next summer at the beach
3) to prove everyone wrong5 -
In no particular order:
- I want to be happy with how I look and feel.
- Quality of life, be able to do the things my wife and I want to do.
- I have 4 awesome grandkids with a 5th on the way and just want as much time with them as I can get.
- Obesity contributed to my dad's decline and death, don't ever want to go that way.
- Honestly...vanity...I want my wife to look at me that way lol.5 -
Foot problems.3

So I can donate my body to medical science.
My local teaching hospital doesn't take obese cadavers.13 -
Trying to slow or halt the slide from pre-diabetic to actual diabetic.5

Before losing 130+ lb my reasons were:
- to prove I could do it
- to avoid a lot of health problems associated with obesity
- so extended family would like and accept me more (did not happen)
- to feel more attractive to my mate (sort of happened, although he doesn't really care)
After losing the weight and keeping it off for 5 years so far, my reasons are:
- to avoid a lot of health problems associated with obesity
- to prove to myself (and others) that I can keep the weight off
- wearing cuter clothes
A lot of people say "to feel better" but honestly aside from feeling that I fit into the world more easily (literally, like seats are now comfy in an old movie theater or on airplanes) and have fewer migraines, I felt great and energetic before and still do.9 -
1) Be able to get pregnant/health pregnancy & baby in the future
2) Feel more confident
3) Love the way I look
4) General health6 -
To be healthier
Hopefully relieves some joint pain
To allow me to enjoy life more. I find being overweight I hold back alot in many ways.6 -
1 to be able to do things with my husband that he enjoys doing
2 to be able to “fit” in- as one poster said- movie theater seats are now uncomfortable. And plane seats are really difficult on long flights. (Hubs and I have discovered we like to travel- and are finally able to do it more than once a year!)
3- so tired of looking at the weight restrictions on certain activities(like zip lining) I want to be able to to do them. And tired of worrying about weight restrictions on things like hammocks and chairs bikes - stuff like that.
4 vanity- yes- I want to be able to buy cute clothes anywhere. Not a lot of places in our area carry my size. I’ve found my spots. But would love to be able to go to more places.6 -
1. Health. I used to have high blood pressure, and high cholesterol/triglycerides. My doctor was recommending I take a statin. I didn't want to, because I already gave up enough cognitive capability to chemotherapy. I don't want to give up even more, just for lipid levels. The doctor doesn't recommend the statin any more. (My lipids are squarely in the normal range; my BP is normal to low normal.) My knees used to hurt most of the time, and quite a lot, from the torn meniscus and mild osteoarthritis. They're mildly uncomfortable sometimes, now, but most often just fine.
2. Independence. I'm 63, and a widowed, orphaned, childless only child who lives alone in my own house. I like that, and I want to keep it that way as long as possible. No one is going to look out for me, except me.
I could kick myself for not losing weight decades ago . . . had I only known it was so simple and manageable (not saying it's always easy!).20 -
I'm in maintenance now and my reasons continue to be-
1. keep my former prediabetic glucose number normalized (going on 6 years )
2. feel comfortable in my own skin
3. stack the odds in my favor for long term health, as I get older6 -
1) I have a young horse who i'd love to be able to break and back myself.
2) To be as healthy as I can for any future pregnancies.
3) I have the BRCA1 gene and need to have preventative surgery but my BMI is too high at the minute.9 -
1. Lower my Blood Pressure
2. Sick and tried of feeling sick and tired
3. I just want to look good and feel good about myself6 -
Several reasons:
1. get off the meds (BP specifically)
2. 16 year old daughter that I want to see get married some day
3. 5 grand kids that I want to see grow up
4. tagging onto the last one - be able to keep up with the 5 grand kids6 -
1. To become healthier and it to help my asthma
2. I wanted to feel more confident and happy with my body and my looks
3. I genuinely started to do it for aesthetic reasons, to look cute in certain clothes2 -
Many reasons:
- Avoid developing chronic health problems
- Play with my son
- Do more things with my athletic husband
- Buy smaller clothes
- Like the way I look in the mirror and in pictures
- Have second pregnancy be healthier and easier to physically recover from than first
- Generally move more easily and feel better
- Feel more comfortable in public (move through crowds more easily, fit better in seats, etc.)

Me and my bf of 2.5 years broke up. I realized after the fact that I was settling and realized that I cant (in the future when I'm ready) seek a man who takes care of himself if I dont. Also, I want to feel and look better for myself and I want to show him what hes missing. I know it's not the correct motivation but if it gets my motivation going, idc. #RevengeBody3
-
1. To become healthier and get rid of all the health problems I now have.
2. I want to have a better condition than I now have. I love to walk but am always tired now.
3. To prove to everyone I can do it(want to be proud, no one believes that I can lose weight)
But really the most important reason is that I want to become healthy. I have had cancer and I don't want to feel the rest of my life how I'm feeling now. I want a better quality of life for the remaining time. Only for myself not for anyone else.2 -
to run faster
to look better naked3 -
1. To help prevent future health issues or make them easier to manage (My mom has type 2 diabetes, degenerative discs in 2 locations, fibromyalgia, and neuropathy. I'm already beginning to show signs of nerve damage issues)
2. To be able to do more with my future child (maybe in a few years)
3. To wear cuter clothes and be able to shop anywhere for clothes without struggling2 -
Honestly the biggest thing was health. I was on diabetes meds and my family has a very high risk of stroke. My father, mother, grandmother and sister all had strokes. I didn't want to end up that way. I'm off the diabetes meds now although blood pressure is still high. It was worth it.4
-
1. To look tolerable naked.
2. To get rid of my beer belly. I don't drink alcohol
3. To be happy with the person I see in the mirror physically. (Dysmorphia is a m@therf%&#er)2 -
1. I don't want to be 'fat and forty'
2. I really want to see my children grow up and share at least a decent portion of their adulthood with them
3. I want to be healthier
If I can average 1lb a week I'll get to my goal in time for my 4th decade. I do have a bit of a journey ahead of me but something has clicked and I'm finally going to lose this weight.2 -
1. Self esteem
2. To look great naked
3. More energy and just overall feeling better
4. Defy any aging2 -
1) having control of my relationship with food improves my mental health
2) being more fit allows me to say yes to more activities and life experiences
3) feeling less fat gives me an indescribable amount of confidence that has allowed me to make more friends and be more outgoing
4) buying clothes has become much less of a stressful chore and I’m able to express my personality more in my wardrobe
5) building habits with eating has allowed me to transfer those skills to work organization and other areas of my life3 -
1.) To boost my confidence, and actually want to be seen again, and not just fade into the background out of insecurity.
2.) To prove a point. My ex treated me as though I was worthless, and for a time I truly began to believe him. Figured I had already ditched 230 lbs.... might as well focus on 60 of my own =P
3.) I really want to dance the night away, not feel overly sweaty or get tired after 20 minutes.4 -
I want to look good for my 30th high school reunion.
So basically vanity.1 -
I had a cancer scare this year.... and it freaked me out.
So, I don't wanna die of a fat disease. Like that's a terrible story to tell in the afterlife. I'm not aiming to be a size 00, but I'd like to get some weight off my knees and maybe not have to take my new blood pressure medication anymore... and not get diabetes in my twilight years... like everyone in my family.4 -
1. To be around when I have grand kids, and even great grandkids (I never met any of my great grandparents, nor one of my grandmas)
2. To feel comfortable in my own skin, enough to wear a swim suit again
3. Look good naked1
