My family is doing the Turkey Trot (I think that's what it's called) in Columbus and thus I will be getting extra exercise calories. We don't really have a terribly high calorie Thanksgiving meal, and I'm not going to eat a ton of food simply because it's a holiday.

For the past several years in a row we've been hosting a big thanksgiving get together. It's a lot of fun. I've done the deep-fried turkey thing 3 years in a row, and it comes out amazing. This year I'm just going to roast it in the oven (after brining it of course). It's pretty much just as good, and I don't end up with 2-3 gallons of oil to get rid of.

Thanksgiving has been an interesting time of year for me.... 2 thanksgivings ago, I fell off the wagon and stopped working out and eating as well. Then around last Thanksgiving, I got back on the wagon, and have achieved the best fitness of my life so far. I wonder what changes this Thanksgiving will bring.

Well good for you! :) And we always brine the turkey as well :)

We will have a traditional Thanksgiving with my family. We always have the greatest time, lots of good food, playing games indoors and out, and of course, football. I am blessed to have such a wonderful family. We all can't wait to get together for just about any occasion we can swing, but especially Thanksgiving :-) I will be eating plenty of good food but in moderation...maybe more than I've been used to for the last six months but still in moderation. Enjoy!

Just a reminder that Canadian Thanksgiving is the second weekend in October, and it is a tradition that Americans send us gifts. I am in charge of collecting them this year, coincidentally.

My family is coming to Albuquerque to spend Thanksgiving with us. I plan on recording the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and running a 5k (Turkey Trek).....Probably eat the same as I usually do...maybe not as much though.

It's the middle of AUGUST! Whether it's American or Canadian Thanksgiving, I'd say it's a WAY too early to be thinking about what you're going to (over) eat.

Yes, send back beer! But not Canadian Beer. ick.

I was hoping for gifts of cash and precious gemstones. That's what you traditionally send. Let's stick with that theme, please.

It's not too early to start thinking about Thanksgiving. I start thinking about fall in general come mid May. I hate summer and live for fall, winter, and eventually spring, until I start dreading the higher temps.

Last year, I ate super clean for 1 week before and 1 week after Thanksgiving, and then on that day, I ate exactly what I wanted. But really, the super strict pre-Thanksgiving diet wasn't even necessary. If you're sticking to your normal diet and exercise program, one day is not going to slow you down. It's being able to not KEEP eating like you ate on Thanksgiving Day that a lot of people struggle with. Being surrounded by leftovers or getting that taste of a dessert you haven't had in months can throw you off track if you aren't very careful.

Less than two months until Thanksgiving here in Canada! My favourite time of year is Thanksgiving through to Christmas, so I’m starting to get a bit excited!

I've never been one to eat a huge amount in one sitting, so I'll just eat what I normally eat...a plate with turkey, a wee bit of potatoes, lots of green beans and Brussels sprouts, corn, yams, salad, stuffing if it’s the tasty homemade kind and not the fake processed stuff. No gravy, since I don’t like it (I’m weird.) And, of course…PIE! Hrm, my dinner was sounding pretty healthy up until that point.

My hubby is starting a new truck driving job in November. I am hoping that he will be up to making his turkey (which I will get for free using my reward points at Giant). He smokes it over hickory chips and injects it with a mixture of honey, brown sugar, and other spices. It is amazing and feeds us for WEEKS! Last year we had well over 20 meals from that bird. :-)

I'll make my dad's stuffing and pumpkin pie because it is tradition. I don't really eat those though. I all about the can shaped cranberry sauce and red beets. LOL MmmmmmMmmmmmm.... I might have to have some beets this week.

This will be the first thnksgiving in our new lifestyle. I plan to use a lot of the lower cal receipes I've learned.

    Turkey
    MIL makes the dressing
    Roasted broccoli and garlic
    Carrots and onions
    Mashed potatoes
    Salad
There will be a few other sides requested by the fam as always.

Not sure about dessert. I thought about making little pies for easy portion control but still not sure on that yet.

I'll be eating with my boyfriend's family. I don't particularly like their food. It's okay I guess. But I don't see myself really over eating. Their food is just kinda ... bleh.

Christmas is a whole different story. I'm going home to see my family, and I know that I'm going to eat myself stupid. I don't care, though. I only go home like once a year. If I want to eat an entire plate of my grandma's cherry delight, then I'm going to! I doubt I will want to eat a whole lot, but if I want it, I'm going to eat it. I'll be staying at a hotel when I go home, so I'll have gym access. Shouldn't be too bad. If all goes to plan, I'll ring in the New Year in ONEderland even with a holiday at home!

Please send Molson Maximum Ice. It tastes like *kitten* but it will make the in-laws totally tolerable at Thanksgiving :drinker:

Hm, I start christmas shopping in September and sometimes earlier depending on sales and the summer clearance items, so I don't think August is too early to think about Thanksgiving! I start thinking about what dessert I am going to make at least a month ahead of time and stock up on the ingredients for it and then for Christmas I do the same thing. I am a planner. I don't make the actual meal, my mom does that for thanksgiving, but for Christmas day when we have my husband's sister over and we have turkey and potatoes and other yummy foods (mostly sugar free and healthy due to her and hubby being diabetic) I buy stuff way ahead and freeze it, but I buy the potatoes just a couple days before, same with apples if I am making a pie. I plan to eat everything this year, and I have never ate a whole lot at once anyways so I will probably stick with the same portions. Can't wait now, my mouth is watering for my momma's home made stuffing!
