Hey! I am starting a low carb diet and right now just focusing on the under 100 carbs a day rule. Anyone else had success with this? Do you still only count the NET carbs?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Some people find low carb to be good for health and limiting hunger. I like etymology low carb but it varies from person to person.
Some like net carbs. I used total carbs but only ate carbs with a fair bit of fibre. Do whatever works for you.2 -
I have been doing keto since October. I try to keep my carbs under 60 and usually manage about 25 to 40 net carbs. So far I've lost 21 pounds. Not much but better than gaining!3

Looks like you've been the victim of auto correct. I'm curious what etymology was supposed to be. I'm thinking Khomeini nope -- lethargic nope -- metric nope -- Leroy nope -- wow, auto correct & swipe keyboard really don't want to let me type ketogenic.2 -
If you are trying to improve insulin sensitivity by lowering carbs to 100g, then might as well elevate it to 5-10% of your daily total calories. If not, you should try intermittent fasting from 10 pm or before you sleep until 2 pm or 4 pm the next day then eat the 100g carbs meal which will stimulate your growth and fat-burning hormones.
You can go with fish, preferably yellowfin tuna in springwater or olive oil. It has 13g protein, 0.5g carbs, and 0.4g fat per 56g of serving, and a container has around 185g of 3 servings so you get 39g protein and only 1.5g carbs. It has VERY LOW calories too. Get most of your carbs from fruits like apples & pears, that's 44g carbs each but here's the trick: You can actually eat small portions of fructose and it won't significantly affect your blood sugar levels, since it comes with the fiber.16 -

Since you're giving advice about blood sugar levels, which can be potentially serious to someone's health, I'm curious what your medical credentials are?
Are you an endocrinologist or perhaps a diabetes RN?12 -

Not mine; it's from Dr. Eric Berg that everyone is using nowadays from the "Fast Weight Loss Program". If she is working or doing moderate work in a day then a net carbs of 100g divided throughout the day is more dangerous than using the proven 5-10% carbs of daily calories, not only proven to work but would also give more energy that the body needs during the day.

No, not everyone is taking diet advice from a chiropractor.

OP, check out the low carbers group linked above. I don't do low carb myself, but I have worked with a couple of people who found staying under 100g really helped keep their appetite under control so they could hit their calorie goal easily. Good luck!8 -
How is 100 g carbs (or net carbs) dangerous?
OP, it's really up to you, but usually I think the higher low carb levels are total carbs. I aimed for around 100 g for a while (found it a pretty easy way to eat for me, especially on lower cals), and it was total carbs.
I eat more carbs now, however.6 -

Oops! I shouldn't post without rereading. Sorry.
If you can believe it, I tried to type "very" low carb. Huh.

LOL.
Years ago (in college) I wrote a paper on Moby Dick, and ran spell check (no autocorrect back then in the dark ages) and it suggested "Arab" for "Ahab" and "Israel" for "Ishmael." I've always thought I should have gone with it and maybe discovered that I'd written something brilliant about Middle Eastern politics.6 -

This is what I was thinking too. I have really only heard of Keto/super low carb people counting net carbs.1 -

You might like to look into his qualifications and reputation.
The "Dr" isn't actually a medical doctor but a Chiropractor.
And a Chiropractor with a very dubious past full of disgraceful misleading of patients and quackery...

Maybe go to him to have your spine cracked but waving bottles of homeopathic water (a.k.a. water) over people and listening to their hearts to give dietary advice doesn't fill me full of confidence over his probity or medical knowledge.10 -

I believe it. I think auto correct causes more confusion than it alleviates. If somebody mistyped very as vry, we'd all figure it out. I don't think anybody is going to get from etymology to very. Unfortunately, we seem to be stuck with it.0 -

For some reason on my phone I often hit to the left, or below, the key. It makes for some bizarre spellings.
This is old, and completely off topic, but a favorite of mine on the "impotence" of proofreading

oh gosh, thanks for the responses! I decided to stick with Keto after all, it's easier than I expected.4

"Everyone" isn't using Berg's plan. Berg isn't an MD so I'm not sure why he feels qualified to give medical advice on how to manage blood sugar.5
