Starting over....again this time...intermittent fasting

I have lost and gained over and over for the past couple years. This time I started intermittent fasting. So far I’m on day 6 and it’s going okay. I’m less hungry than I was the first couple days and I’m staying in my calorie goals. I’m starting to lose weight so I know I’m on the right track! Anyone else just starting IF that wants to add me? I would really like to see open diaries! I’m still not 100% sure that IF is right for me, but I’m going to stick with it for at least two weeks. Instead of 16:8, I might do 5:2. It’s hard for me to restrict myself to the eating window everyday, but I think I could restrict myself easily twice a week. I know that there isn’t a eating plan that is easy, I just want something that I can stick with!

@jlangton10 that sounds like a good plan for starting over. Best of success. It took me 40 years to figure out losing and gaining was killing me.

Hi there. I am also just start over again with IF. Now I am on my 15 days of IF and I am quite happy with the result. I try to eat low calorie food for 6 days and 1 cheat day for a week (I still eat in my fast window during cheat day).

Sunday is a bigger calorie day for me too. One thing that I like about intermittent fasting is that after fasting I don’t want to waste the hard work by eating too much. Also, it is much easier to stay in the calorie limits. The thing I don’t like about it is that I am still so hungry! Does the hunger eventually go away?

I realized at some point that I wasn't very hungry in the morning and I was just eating out of habit, and when I did skip breakfast it was pretty easy for me to ignore what little hunger I might experience. Meanwhile, I really wished I had more calories in the afternoon. So I started skipping breakfast on purpose and accidentally doing 16:8.

It worked great for me for a couple of years, until one day I started to notice that I was really hungry when I woke up. I tried to power through it for a couple of weeks, but it persisted, so I started eating a little bit in the AM and switched back to a more traditional eating schedule. I'd switch back to 16:8 in a heartbeat if I notice my appetite change again, but for now this is what's most comfortable to me.

So the answer is, maybe  Good luck!

I do IF 16:8 except Sunday, multi-family dinner night, because the group eats so much later. I have found when I start getting hungry any other time, a glass of water or cup of hot tea is sustaining.

When are you getting hungry? Is it possible to adjust your eating window to starting and stopping earlier or later?

Hello. I am in the same boat. Starting over and doing a combo of IF and 5:2. It worked for me before, so hoping it works for me again. Feel free to add me as a friend and come join us on the 5:2 MFP board here. :)

Yes SCORE!! I have been looking for intermittent fasters all through My Fitness Pal. Saw a couple of groups that seemed inactive. I restarted my IF plan. I do the 16:8 method. I have lost 10 pounds in the last 3 weeks. Please stick with it langton10. Your dedication will pay off. I know that every BODY is different and especially as women hormonally our bodies might react differently. I've done lots of research and IF definitely works. The science is positive. And I have read testimonials from men and women that have lost tons of weight using the method that works best for them. I am excited to meet others using these methods.

You'll find many of the long-time posters here have done or currently do IF, they just don't talk about it much because it's just when they eat.

I’ve been interested in trying it. What are the ratios 16:8 and 5:2 representing?

With 16:8 IF, you fast for 16 hours and have an 8 hour eating window every day (some people do even shorter eating windows, like 18:6 or 20:4)..

5:2 IF is when you eat maintenance calories 5 days a week, and fast on the other 2 non consecutive days, eating usually between 500 - 800 cals on those days I believe.
