Successes/Challenges of the week:
Deciding to “call” maintenance. I had hoped to get lower, but each time I did I lost energy & was very hungry. I’m at peace with 153 after my PT videotaped me doing new wt exercises & my immediate reaction when I saw them was: “I’m thin!”
Challenge: I have a healthy respect for the difficulties of maintenance. My body definitely decreased it’s burn rate & I realize I will need to keep tracking, assessing, and modifying food/exercise over the coming years.
I’m grateful to be thin/normal after 48 years of being overweight (which I learned was actually obese for almost all of those years.)8 -

How long in maintenance: I reached my goal weight about a year ago, but kind of bounced around for a while.. it's taken til now since the beginning of the year to be getting consistent weigh-in's in the range I want to be in. So, I'd say only within the last couple weeks I've officially been in maintenance
Maintenance weight range: 124lb-127lb

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Was pleasantly surprised with that low weigh-in, below my maintenance range even! I felt like I really struggled to stay within my cal goals this week, I guess I did better than I thought as a whole. Looking forward to a day-date and dinner with my husband Sunday to celebrate our wedding anniversary, I will for sure be splurging!4 -

How long in maintenance: 23 months
Maintenance weight range: 115-120

Week of 7 April: 117.75
Week of 14 April: 117.25
Week of 21 April: 116.25
Week of 28 April: 116.5
Successes/struggles: A bit up and down food-wise this week with Easter etc but seem to have mitigated the worst of it with banking exercise calories. Want to try and aim for a bit more consistency again. Good to be back in the work routine but the early morning workouts and runs do feel very early! At least it’s lighter in the mornings now. A question for any runners - how do you know how to dress for early runs this time of year? I do around 10k so am out for less than an hour. When I set off at around 5:40am it is cold, but then I get hot pretty quickly. Is it better to under or over dress??
Have a good week everyone4 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I never thought I'd say this again, but I'm struggling to get enough calories in my week. I have to do a better job pre-planning a week in advance and accounting for exercise. That's the kicker, I think. Now that spring is here (mostly, anyway), I'm getting out and about, walking/jogging and riding my bike. It's easy to pre-plan plan a week's nutrition when you know pretty exactly what your calorie expenditure is going to be each day, because half an hour on the treadmill at the same settings yields the same results each time. But if I'm on my bike and I've gone eight miles, I'm feeling good and it's beautiful, and I've got an extra bit of time, I might add a couple of miles just because. And now my calories-in for the day are off, just a bit. Do that a few times a week and "just a bit" becomes problematic on Friday afternoon when I've already banked calories for the weekend and I've suddenly got another 400-500 calories to eat that I hadn't planned and I've got only three or four meals left to use it on. Sure, I can treat myself to something unhealthy, but I'd prefer not to do that too often. So better planning, and a more serious look (maybe a spreadsheet) at my average weekly calorie burn, is in order and needs to move to my priority list.
For the past month or two, my diet has been more and more plant-based. That's excellent for my health, and I feel ten years younger than I did in December. But trying to add a bunch of calories, with a good macro- and micronutrient mix that fills out the corners of my week, can be mind-numbingly difficult on a Friday night when I'm tired from the week, my kid is home and needs attention, and all I want to do is veg out. Especially on a 70% carb/15% protein/15% fat macro ratio, which is what seems to make me feel best. Low fat foods just don't have a lot of calories, especially if they're not high-sugar fruits.
My original weight goal was 130 lbs, and I'm down to 122. I'm not in danger of losing too much by a long shot yet, given my age and height, but it's annoying that I've been trying to maintain and my weight just keeps trickling down. Maybe it's annoying because I still get excited when I step on the scale and see a loss but I know I shouldn't feel that way?
Well, it's supposed to be a cold, wet weekend, so I should have time to take a serious look at my weekly calorie burn today and try to come up with a better meal plan for the week tomorrow.
Have a great week, everybody!7 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Well above stated range☹ I ate within calories still logging 100% of exercise. That said I did eat more carbs then usual. I also did not lift all week until last night and pushed my reps about 50% more then usual. Thinking it is water. If I am not back in range in a week I will cut back to 50% of exercise calories like I was doing before.
Hope it’s water…

How long in maintenance: I hit my goal weight in the beginning of January 2018, but officially started maintenance in mid-March 2018 after figuring out my calories for a couple of months.

April 27: 109.9 (trend 109.9)
Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: It's been an interesting week. I'd banked extra calories for this week, as my favorite doughnut shop was at work and I planned to get one each day. For the most part though, I found myself interestingly not needing all of those extra calories, even with eating a light breakfast (yogurt) and light lunch most of this week. With the doughnuts as a mid-morning snack, I ended up being not as hungry for the rest of the day and not needing all of the extra calories that I'd banked. There was one day when I went out for lunch and ended up eating way more than I'd planned (over 900 calories), but that large lunch plus the doughnut resulted in my not being hungry for dinner later on, so I just had a small dessert instead of dinner.5 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: A steady, routine week. It's nice when everything mostly goes according to plan. Prelogging was helpful, especially when planning for yesterday's trip to the movies. Boy, a bucket of popcorn is quite a debit on the calorie ledger.
I'm still averaging a little lower in weight than I've been aiming for, but given that my health markers are all good and I'm making progress in my new progressive overload program, I'm alright with it.
It's not really a struggle, but going to the free weights area of the university gym has been an object lesson in humility, not to mention an acute reminder of aging.
Have a great week, everyone!5 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Still settling back in from my vacation. My average for this coming week will be back down closer to what it was prior to the vacation. I ate more than I would have liked yesterday, but I’m happy with my indulgences. I will try to indulge less on my indulgent day this coming week. I don’t have any anticipated events coming up that have the potential to derail me

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: We were away in my motorhome for a few days so I’m very happy to see the weight steady. We also had a meal with friends on Saturday. I took a lot of holidays while I was losing weight so I do know that I can do it but it’s still good to see.
I just used the mfp BMR calculator – mine is just 968 cals per day! (I’m a little old lady)
Then updated my stats, using “lightly active” and no loss or gain in weight and got a recommended calorie intake of a whopping 1350 per day!
However, by using “lightly active” I can’t use all my activities to eat extra calories. In fact, taking into account all the holidays and days out, meals out, etc I really have to think in terms of 1200 per day when I’m at home. The only really good calorie burning exercise I do is swimming and waterobics, I can use those calories for extra food.
Well, I have a quiet week at home now before the next holiday.
See you all in May.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I thought that the Easter weekend might cause a big water weight gain, but it didn't really happen this time or I dropped it really quickly, so the scale didn't really show a big jump. I was overeating this last weekend as well and I couldn't weigh myself but this morning I was the same weight as previous Friday so I guess I didn't really make much damage.. Maybe my scale is broken? I guess not, cause the mirror is certainly working and I don't look like bloated at all... I'm very satisfied with my April, it seems like maintenance works perfectly...6 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: My weight is back in the lower end of the range this week. I'm feeling pretty good about maintenance. Even though my scale weight was up last week, I knew it was because of the extra holiday/birthday eating. And I was never over my range, so even though my weight was up it was not up too much. It is nice to know that it is possible to indulge a little and then get right back to "normal" eating. And it is nice to know that some ups and downs on the scale are perfectly normal too.10 -

Challenges: 3-day trip, which usually results in a gain. Ate twice when I wasn’t hungry- one a date with my husband (he was hungry- my plan was to just have hot tea. Then felt I had to order something (must change this-husband doesn’t care)—restaurant IDK. Then ate some of his fries. A few bites of steak & then got a dessert.
The dessert threw me over calories.
Second was a celebration after a family member’s performance. I had already gotten dessert (succumbed to the desserts lined up where we ordered & went back in to get one. So the post-performance ice cream was the 2nd time & I should have just said “I already had dessert or I’m not hungry” I will learn. The second dessert threw me over calories.
Success: maintaining!!
Healthy foods except for fore mentioned. Split items with my husband, which helped a lot, too. My husband is very supportive.
Exercised a lot- really enjoyed hotel treadmill & weight machines. Thinking of joining a gym!
Got right back on track after family members left. White-knuckling the sweets cravings- should ebb tomorrow.
Week 1 done!
On to Week 2!
Have an awesome week❣️

I was sure I posted last week but can't find it, so here I am again. My history is that I hit maintenance 3 years ago. Then in 9/2015 I broke my left foot. In 12/2015 I broke my left foot again. 2016 was a long year with breast cancer and radiation, and losing my father in November. 5/2018 I broke my left leg. I need to work on bouncing rather than breaking. My name is Nikki and I am a stress eater - I either eat nothing or I eat too much of the wrong thing. I'm gluten-free and am finding that grains in general react badly and cause pounds of water retention for 5-7 days. I am running again though and aim for 5 miles 4-5 times/week.
Struggles: Sugar, was glutened on Sunday, leaving me +2 from last week. I really want to get back to maintenance range, I've been gone too long.8 -

No run for me today while I'm resting my ankle. I'll see the doc in the morning and hopefully she'll give me the go ahead for the HM in 2 weeks. The ice and rest seems to be helping so I thought a little liesurly walk with Ein (the Corgi) for his 3rd birthday was a good way to test it out slowly. We walked 1.25 miles. I hated to miss my long run when the weather was so nice. I feel like I am probably being overly cautious, but this close to a race I don't want to do anything to make it worse. I keep telling myself that one missed run isn't the end if the world. And so far I have only missed one run. Friday and Saturday are rest days anyway.3

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I did much better this week at allocating my calories. Yesterday morning when I woke, I was carrying only 13 calories forward from the week into the weekend. That works perfectly for me, since I'm a weekend exercise warrior, and I typically will expend at least 500-700 calories each, Saturday and Sunday.
🤓 Geek alert: I actually did my spreadsheets last weekend, and had fun with them. While not everyone appreciates the power of a good regression analysis, I do find them invigorating. 🤓 No, I didn't bother doing it myself, I just used Excel's trend line feature. I'm crazy, not stupid. 😜
With my current exercise level I need to be eating around 1500 calories per day (which sounds like a really scary commitment when your BMR is 1080.) I was having a lot of trouble with this, mentally and emotionally, until I found a little trick that works for me. Using my rolling 7-day average from the MFP Nutrition tabs has taken the scare factor from Defcon 5 down to Defcon 1. This way I'm never more than one day "off" on my nutrition. Even if I'm a couch potato today, my rolling average will reflect that tomorrow and I can accommodate it in my eating. Likewise, if it's a beautiful day (and I miraculously have a babysitter), I can spend as long as I like on my bike or walk, and know that I can eat those calories down over the week without freaking out about it. Stress relieved, mind reassured.
Yes, I understand that this should have been a logical conclusion (and is, in fact, the basic premise of maintenance eating), but I needed to see the numbers. A psychiatrist would probably have a clinical diagnosis for that. 😂
So next challenge: what do I do now that I'm down at the bottom of my maintenance range? Move my range? My goal was basically to be within the top half of the normal BMI range. I'm there. I don't really want to allow myself to gain ten pounds; I don't really want to lose more weight. Should I just decrease both the top and bottom end of my maintenance range by five pounds so that my current weight is in the middle?
