Eating White Rice For Weight Loss

Hopefully not just rice? That wouldn't be much of a meal. I hope those are just the carbs that go into your meals.2

How do you figure that?? 200 calories of rice is the same weight loss as 200 calories of mashed potatoes, everything else being equal
I would assume because they, just like myself, find potatoes to be more filling than rice.
of course someone else might find rice to be more filling than potatoes and that's absolutely legit too.
That's fine. And it's fine for someone to have a personal preference. But sweeping statements like "you'd get better weight-loss results eating mashed potatoes than rice" aren't correct.16 -
And so nobody accuses me of not citing my sources, here's one: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2822877
You were too quick for me... I had quite the accusation queued up and ready for action...
Foiled!10 -

You have to keep the body healthy to have the energy and mindset to lose weight.
What if I eat pizza and don't feel like crap? What if I don't like waffles? What if I eat two 1000 calorie waffles putting me over maintenance for the day but 2 slices of pizza keeps me in a calorie deficit? What if eating some magical diet isn't sustainable for me long term, so I eventually go back to old habits and regain the weight?
OP - ignore this person's advice. I'm still concerned you might be undereating based on the foods listed in the original post.19 -

Hmm. My 40 pounds of weight loss would disagree. I probably eat white rice at least twice per week.15 -

Also I find this comment so puzzling. Every so often I make homemade pizza. It's got a thin crust and a ton of fresh vegetable toppings. Can't see why this would make me feel like crap. And actually it makes me feel great!

My 30 pound weight loss says the same. I eat it at least that often. Had it today. I also eat potatoes. They're cool too. And every once and a while, I have *gasp* pizza. Never had a protein waffle tho. But you know what? If a person likes to eat them, I'm sure they're cool too.12 -

You've just inspired me to make some homemade pizza this week. Thanks!8 -

Here's a guy who's been eating whatever he wants for years. Caloric deficit proven over and over.

Have a question about this. I know it takes a calorie deficit to lose weight. I have lost 31 pounds with a deficit but doesn’t balance or healthy eating come in to play?2 -

Eating a variety of foods is good for overall health. But in terms of strictly weight loss, calorie deficit is all that matters.11 -

It doesn't matter if you eat 2000 calories a day in chicken and broccoli and apples or 2000 calories in twinkies and ding dongs and apple pie, if your tdee is 1500 calories a day, you're gonna gain weight.9 -

Balance and healthy eating "can" have an indirect affect on weight loss through adherence issues - if you eat an unbalanced or not nutritious diet, over time you might feel hungry or fatigued or cranky.
Otherwise balance and healthy eating affect health, not weight loss. Calories determine weight loss/gain.
And while I realize this doesn't apply to yiu, it's directed at others who might be reading - we say you can eat whatever you want FOR WEIGHT LOSS. Obviously you should eat a varied and balanced nutritious diet for good health.
But that's not what OP asked about. And OP you can eat a healthy diet that includes white rice, and you can lose weight eating white rice. Please just make sure you are eating enough overall, and specifically getting enough protein and fat. The little bit of food you described wouldn't do either.12 -

I agree with this. I do think it's important to stay within your comfort zone though. If eating "X" seems to make you uncomfortable physically or emotionally, then by all means replace it with something else.
It's also a refining process. I can eat whatever I want, but choose not to often. I can fit chocolate easily in (M&Ms last night ) but overall I eat a pretty balanced diet, mostly meats/veggies/grains - but will not say no to cake or ice cream if I want it. And if I occasionally go over, ok, there's tomorrow. Just as long as I don't make a habit of it.8 -
Of course! Although having it at lunch AND dinner would bore me to tears! I love sweet potatoes. When I eat rice, I measure out either a whole or half cup using measuring cups.0

They don't look that good from his photos, but people have different tastes.
I don't actually like waffles that much, protein waffles or normal ones. I also limit protein powder.
I do like roasted potatoes and an occasional stir fry with rice! (Normally I prefer pasta or potatoes over rice, however, although I'd never claim that was anything beyond personal preference.)
I'll note that if eating pizza or rice or potatoes or pasta I normally have lots of veg. Not sure how to work that in with waffles and don't recall the protein waffle meal involving veg, but I'm sure some could work them in.3 -

What a puzzling comparison. It’s almost as if you think there’s only one possible type of pizza and it makes everyone who eats it feel the same way. The pizza I ate the other night, after a big salad, had grilled chicken, pesto, spinach, artichokes and red peppers on a wood fired crust. It didn’t make me feel like crap, especially with the two glasses of Pinot Grigio I enjoyed as well. Eating protein waffles instead would have been kind of hard since I was at a little local pizza place and I don’t think they serve those there. I also think eating that for dinner would have left me lacking in fat and overall diversity of nutrients.
Do you often think to yourself, hmm pizza or waffles? What kind of pizza do you typically eat? What do you put on your waffles?19 -

I think this is what happens when you have programmed yourself to believe myths to the point you actually feel differently when you eat some of the "bad" food. I wouldn't want to live that way and I am sorry that you do currently.
There is nothing in pizza that would make a person feel bad unless they had an existing medical condition like an insulin disorder or a food allergy. If you ate nothing but pizza you might have a point but not as an item that rotates through a menu. I have eaten it probably 3 times a month (1200ish calories at a time) for more than a year. It is a nice break from my normal routine which makes me feel good mentally. I have no physical reaction to it.
I don't believe it is healthy to live in extremes.16 -
Wow! I cook myself a frozen pizza for dinner at least 2 or 3 nights a week. I must be doing it wrong because I feel great and am still losing weight.14
