Can this actually be true?

I was just looking at the National Public Radio website and saw a story titled, "Five Myths About Drinking Water".
According to this article there are no real benefits to drinking water every day. Not for dieters or anyone else, aside from the fact that it "can keep your mouth busy".
Are you kidding me?
Check it out...

I think I've read something similar and the jist is that we do get water from most foods, so we are probably over-hydrating if we are eating whole & real foods0

This article actually says diet soda is just as effective as water.0 -
All I know is, it works for me! I used to get horrible headaches on a daily basis, my doctor checked all the usual causes and suggested it was simply dehydration (I never used to drink water, it was about 1 glass of fruit juice in the morning and maybe a glass of coke at night!) 3 months ago, I started drinking no less than 8 cups a day and I rarely ever get headaches now.
Plus sugary drinks and those high in caffeine give me migraines, as well as being full of empty calories. Swapping to water usually benefits people trying to lose weight for that reason alone.0 -
There are hundreds of articles on the internet that have undeniable proof to both sides.. so why bother with articles, just do what works for you. Water works for me!!0

Water, as with any intake into the body depends on the needs of the person taking it in. Is it extremely dry where you live? Do you exercise a lot? Do you sweat a log? Do you breathe with your mouth open? These are just a few things that can affect the amount of water someone needs. Someone who eats a lot of water heavy foods would logically need less water intake than someone who eats saltines all day. I think most people dieting benefit greatly from a larger intake of water. Some may not. It isn't going to stop me from drinking water. I know how I feel if I don't drink enough of it.0

Think that doc is full of BS and really needs to have his license pulled. Even the lowest GPA DR that graduated is still know as a DR. Case in point. Water works for me.0

the way i look at is is this, if i'm not drinking water, i'm drinking soda. if im drinking soda, i'm feel bloated, and chunking. i've noticed that with water i feel 100% lighter, and have more energy. We may not need it, or as much as they say, but it makes me feel better. whether it be diet soda or what, it's better then the heavy, sugar drinks that are out there. i've found that the MIO liquid works great for me.0

I'm not saying I believe it. I drink over 100 oz of water every day.
I just thought it was funny that this is now a story.0 -

I can't imagine being told not to drink water. My Grandma & Mom believe that if cows drink water & eat grass & make such good milk then us as humans should follow suit. I have tried to quench my thirst with other drinks & for me it doesn't work. I can't believe that something like that was able to be published but just like life & movies that shouldn't go to theater or disk I guess the unknowledgeable ones have to have their say as well.0

From what I understand, human beings can only survive 3 days w/o water...and these folks say water is not all that important: THAT'S BULL.0

I read this stuff and take it all with a grain of salt. These articles are written by so-called "experts". I am not qualified to agree or disagree with it. Just because I've been told something is true, my whole life, doesn't necessarily mean it's true.
As humans, our understanding of things changes constantly as we become more aware, scientifically. Remember when the world was flat? You could have been hung for saying otherwise, way back when.
I'm a design engineer... I'm qualified to argue with you over engineering issues. What are your qualifications? H2O specialist?0 -
