What's Your Most Recent NSV

I am a teacher and could've gone to Chipotle for BOGO tonight and had a high sodium, presumably high calorie (depending on choices) dinner and lunch for tomorrow. Instead of saving a couple bucks and having regrets, I chose to stick to my healthier, made-at-home dinner of spinach artichoke spaghetti squash. Proud of the choices I've started to make!23

Okay, I'm a newbie here, so don't laugh. I'm trying to figure out what an "NSV" is.5

Non-scale Victory! Seriously, though; I wish that the original poster had thought to include that for those who haven't yet come across the term.4

Having some issues with the consequences of losing the most weight I've ever lost Yeah, it's a GREAT thing to feel good & healthy, but now I'm seeing a turkey neck and other excess skin that just hangs. Not bad if I'm dressed when looking in the mirror, but otherwise, it grosses me out. I guess I need to accept the fact that it's the consequences of abusing my body for so many years. Ugh. Thanks for letting me vent.

My running time is down from a 15 min mile to a 13 min mile. And a pair of shorts I bought that were too small in March now fit pretty well!15

How long is it since you lost weight? Sometimes it sorts itself out - but regardless, just keep reminding yourself that you are healthier than before and will be able to do more for longer At 63 I am finding it a bit hard to accept that my face and neck look older now that I weigh significantly less. I didn't really expect to suddenly regain my youth after around 50lbs off BUT it is hard look in a mirror and see this old lady looking back at me But I feel so much better, buying clothes is easier - still hate shopping - and I can do SO much more. No heartburn while picking up stuff in the garden, lacing shoes is easy, walking is pleasurable etc etc. So I guess I'll take the turkey neck over an unlined plump face/neck any day.20 -
I can actually wear everything in my closet, no different sizes, everything fits! some things loose, I love that feeling.17

I can't wait for this! I only have a half bin of too small clothes left from 2 overflowing so I am getting so close!

I've been looking for a dress to wear to a wedding. Tried on a 14 in one shop. It was too big but there weren't any 12s.tried another shop and thought I'd risk a 12. It didn't look right and the shop assistant said that it was too big and she'd get me a smaller size. I said it wouldn't fit (a 12 is already impossibly small to me).
The 10 fit.
I don't think she got why I didn't think a 10 would fit. At best I used to be a 16; at worst squeezing into a 24. I'm not a 10. I'm fat. The label must be wrong, the brand must be oversized right? I didn't end up buying it because it was such an odd feeling and I couldn't believe it. The reality is I am a reasonably healthy weight and normal size now.
I'm hoping my brain catches up to how I really look in clothes now - I definately still see 100lbs extra.

Not sure if this is an NSV or just one of my go-to stores re-sizing everything to be bigger, but I suppose I’ll take it. I went shopping last night and brought a huge armload of the size I’ve been wearing for 3 years at this store into the dressing room. Nothing fit—it was all too big. My weight hasn’t changed (if anything I’m up 3-5lbs), but perhaps the lifting is accomplishing some slow recomp after all!
So well played, LOFT—I went in wanting a few nicer tops and came out with 3 pairs of slacks in a way too tiny to be real size 😆12 -
Got up this morning to that normal British weather - rain.
It had been raining on and off all day.
The sun broke through so I grabbed my bike and off I went.
Three miles into a 20-mile route and the rain started. Lightly at first, so I thought that I'd keep going.
Then it got heavier. And heavier. And heavier. Until I was cycling through a torrential downpour. You know, the type that soaks you in minutes.
Not keen on cycling in lots of rain as I worry about how the bike is going to handle it (my tyres are pretty well slicks, with just a few pretty patterny-areas around the edges). And having had a couple of falls where the bike slipped, I am not keen on falling off again.
The bike was fabulous and held up well. I did cut my route a little short as I was struggling somewhat; my clothes were getting heavier, I couldn't see too well as the rain was all over my glasses, there were rivers of water running off my clothes and the wind was doing its best to push me over.
You know it's bad when you squeeze the brakes and your gloves squelch, right? At that point I called it quits as my hands were not happy and wanted to seize up so I headed home. I had to be satisfied with thirteen miles instead of the planned twenty.
Ah well, I did something and tomorrow is supposed to be nicer.
And I'll probably get soaked again later when my son and I go out for our run.
Now THAT'S something to look forward to.20 -

Thanks so much!! I appreciate the encouragement1 -
I'm a size 14 now.
I've been 18-24 almost my whole life (pcos + insulin resistance )
I'm 13 pounds away from being out of the 200s! weighed in at 212 today.
21 to go until my minigoal of 191 (overnight bmi instead of obese)24 -
I have a six day riding streak on the bicycle hopefully the streets will dry off enough tonight that I can make it 7.
I was out Monday night and it started raining about halfway back. So first time caught in the rain with the new bicycle. Miss Bumble handled the wet pavement just fine although we had to clean her up when we got back.
Have over a hundred miles logged so far in May. And over 300 on the year as the weather just as not cooperated for riding this year.13 -
I started taking group fitness classes at work and my coworker said I was a rockstar! I am not used to being one of the most fit people in a group.14

Last weekend I went back to my hombre town for their show. A friend of mine had called me Thursday night to say she was going over for the barrel race and had a spare spot on her float if I wanted to chuck a horse on. Hells yeah I did! So I took Shakaya over not expecting great things since we haven't looked at a set of drums since our circuit finals in March. I was hoping for a high 2nd division run since that's our new norm.
Well blow me down if she didn't go out there and WIN the 1st DIVISION! THE FASTEST TIME OF THE DAY!!! That's never happened to me before. Admittedly everyone else was having bad runs too, but Shakaya and I got lost on our way to the 1st drum and added a bit of time there. I couldn't believe my ears when my friend said "You're leading" and I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around it, I didn't expect her to run that fast. She was running against good horses too so I'm looking forward to seeing what she can pull out for me when we've actually been training and she's running properly 😁😁😁26 -
Haven’t seen my mom in a few months and she said she could see my body was changing—more muscle in my shoulders and back. I think she’s skeptical about the whole weight lifting thing, but apparently it’s working for me!14

I normally pack lunch for me and my husband. Yesterday ,he ate everything before and we bought something for him for lunch. Normally I would also take a meat pie AND still eat my packed lunch also. But I declined and only ate my packed lunch.16

Caught a reflection of my rear in the mirror this morning and I actually thought, "Dang, my *kitten* looks good"!13

I went to Goodwill and tried on some medium dresses. They all either fit perfectly or were too big. I've been trying to mediums just to see because some are sized big and I can find some gems. I guess I will have to start doing that with the smalls now because the mediums are consistently fitting. My real purpose for the trip was to get a black spaghetti strap top to wear with low-cut dresses. I found one that was the perfect shape and color but seemed small. I thought "well, it should probably be a little tight anyway" and gave it a try. It wasn't tight at all, lol. It didn't have tags on it so I couldn't even judge it by that, just based on what my eyeballs said, and I'm apparently smaller than what my eyeballs think!22

Conversation with my wife this morning when I was leaving for work:
Her “what jeans are you wearing? Turn around?”
Me “why? You wanna check out my butt?”
Her “yep. Also, those jeans are too big.”
Me “I know. The belt is cinching up it pretty tightly.”
Her “and that shirt is too big too.”
Me “well, it’s what I have in he closet.”
Her “we’re gonna have to go but you some smaller clothes.”
*the jeans were a gift from her just this past Christmas and were fitting just a tad too small at the time*38 -
I came in the house after doing some running around and my husband said to me, "that a really nice shirt you have on". I said, thanks Boo. What's so funny is when I got it out of my closet today, I said to myself....hmmmmm, I don't remember buying this top, but whatever. A little while later one of my son's said "that a nice top on you mom". I said thanks. A few minutes later my youngest daughter said "that's my shirt"!!!
I said wow...I'm really sorry, it was hanging in my closet and I thought it was mine. She said, that's okay mom, you can have it if you want. So what's the NSV? My daughter is a size 2-4 and the shirt was a size SMALL!!!!!!!!! WOW! Now this wasn't a fitted top at all, but to know I can fit some of my youngest daughter's clothes is thrilling!26 -
Starting at age 63 I have been walking at least 1/4 of a mile a day since back in 2014 down and back up a steep hill. About a month ago I read walking backwards can help balance and prevent/recover mental decline so I started to do 100 steps backwards. Balance has improved walking forward and backwards. Today I was even able to jog backwards for 30 steps. In 2014 it took longer because I would have to rest 10-15 times to catch my breath.28

Boom! That's the ticket and super YAY YOU!!!! Walking backwards, YES, I've done it before (around the lake paths) and people look at you like, uhhhhh...OKAY?!? I've NEVER walk backwards for more than say, 20 steps or so. Gonna have to try it again, because walking backwards DEFINITELY helps something, makes you feel stronger/powerful too. Again YAY YOU and thanks for posting!2 -
Thanks @NewLIFEstyle4ME

So we can do 10,000 steps by Only doing 1000 steps backwards it seems?
I first started out just turning around once without ever stop walking and that took awhile because I am stiff as a poker due the having Ankylosing Spondylitis for 40 years but some of the self fusing is starting to self reverse thankfully. It really is amazing how much faster I can walk forward now and without tiring quickly at the fast pace. I notice it is easier to drive and look in each direction now.6 -

Wow! I just LOVE LIFE and learning something new everyday, I just love it! Ya know, from what I remember walking backwards, it's definitely different from walking forward and took a bit more, ummm, not pressure, but I guess muscle power. Also, I can definitely attest to it helping with balance, because walking backward makes you look around you in an unusual but powerful way--definitely increases your awareness and once you get used to it, it's not as um "scary" so to speak. What's cool as you're walking backward is people look at you "funny" but also in an admirable way too (like check her out, that's weird, but COOL at the same time). Thanks again ever so much. I'm going to re-start walking backward tomorrow....YAY, thanks for the inspiration. I also like what I read in that link you posted, about walking 100 steps backward is like 1,000 steps forward, I believe it, because I definitely used much more "energy" walking backwards than forward. How cool and fun! It's ON now!4
