Metabolic Confusion

Hi all! Was wondering if anyone has tried the metabolic confusion diet and if so, can you give me some pointers on where to start. I’m trying to meal prep and I just need some really basic meals. I’m not sure if my daily calorie intake is supposed to stay the same with it or not. Right now my cal intake is 1400. I work out 5/7 days and do HITT and some other cardio along with lifting. Any suggestions or even personal experience feedback would be great! Thanks!

Frankly, there is no such thing as metabolic confusion.
Calories are king.27 -
It's another fad diet plan based on a carb cycling idea. It seems like Dr Oz is involved somehow. Lots of arbitrary rules and lists of food to eat or avoid that hide the fact it's just an aggressively low calorie meal plan.16

There sure are a lot of people saying they're doing HIIT. I don't think they really understand the term.
The Metabolic Confusion diet? Is that like calorie or carb cycling or intermittent fasting? Meh. Too much work. I just set my calorie goals and try to stick with them, that way I don't have cravings and high/low calorie days that mess with my hormones. I lost all my weight and I'm in weight maintenance for over a decade.
It's all about eating less than your current weight and activity calorie requirements. Do that consistently - in any way you want - and lose weight.

I selected the Mayo Clinic website for some basic education on the word Metabolism.
Here is a relevant excerpt “...Metabolism and weight
It may be tempting to blame your metabolism for weight gain. But because metabolism is a natural process, your body has many mechanisms that regulate it to meet your individual needs. Only in rare cases do you get excessive weight gain from a medical problem that slows metabolism, such as Cushing's syndrome or having an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism).
Unfortunately, weight gain is a complicated process. It's likely a combination of genetic makeup, hormonal controls, diet composition and the impact of environment on your lifestyle, including sleep, physical activity and stress.
All of these factors result in an imbalance in the energy equation. You gain weight when you eat more calories than you burn — or burn fewer calories than you eat.
While it is true that some people seem to be able to lose weight more quickly and more easily than others, everyone loses weight when they burn up more calories than they eat. To lose weight, you need to create an energy deficit by eating fewer calories or increasing the number of calories you burn through physical activity or both....” .
I copied this from the link: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/metabolism/art-20046508, where any one interested can go read more on the topic.

I'm doing the diet and put my calories into MFP and I ate over 1400 yesterday and it was all whole foods. And I'm losing.2

Stole this article from @estherdragonbat about metabolic confusion and metabolic damage. It is awesome!

Who would win
1 metabolism boi honed by millions of years of feast or famine at maintaining fat stores
1 donut eaten at the exact right 10 minute daily window

That is a great article. Thanks for sharing it. Best myth buster explanation I’ve seen in awhile.

I love the review of the Biggest Loser Metabolic Damage study!
https://www.aworkoutroutine.com/metabolic-damage/
...1. Is This Study Even Relevant To The Rest Of Us?
Honestly? Probably not. At least, not entirely.
This was a study done on a very specific group of people who were in a weight loss scenario that 99.9% of us will never come close to being in.- For starters, these were morbidly obese men and women. They each started, on average, at a weight over 300 lbs. And they each lost, on average, over 100 lbs. In just 30 weeks! Hell, one guy went from 430 lbs to 191 lbs (239 lbs lost). In… 30… effing… weeks.
- And much more importantly, they made this extreme progress in the most extreme (and stupid) manner possible. These were people who were put on diets consisting of close to 1000 calories a day (I’ve read reports of people eating even less than that on the show) WHILE doing up to 6 or 7 hours of intense exercise per day. For… 30… weeks.
Now… does ALL of the above describe you and the manner in which you’re losing weight?
No?
Good, because this show is terrible, the “coaches” are terrible, and every single aspect of the way its contestants approach weight loss is terrible.
But getting back to my point here, the fact that this weight loss scenario isn’t entirely (or even remotely close to being) relevant to you makes it very likely that the outcome of the study may not be entirely relevant to you, either.11 -
Thank you so much for providing that link! Within that I have stubbled along some great points and learned a lot!4

I did some research on google and found many articles regarding metabolic confusion. I think this article explained precisely what it is... maybe you should check this website..

Sadly, that site is simply a blog (i.e., opinion post) by someone who says she is "studying at First Moscow State Medical University in Pediatrics field". It includes a good deal of misinformation, so I can only hope she has a long way to go academically before being responsible for medical treatment of children (or anyone else). Further, she's selling something ("for just under $50 bucks"), which ought to raise red flags (pun semi-intended).
It appears that she doesn't understand what "metabolism" is; she doesn't understand the relationship of nutritional intake to glycogen formation in the body; she doesn't understand the relationship between calories, macronutrients, and fat loss; she promotes the trendy term "HIIT" while being pretty darned incoherent (more than the typical trendy HIIT-promoter, which is saying a lot) about what it even is, let alone what it does and why it works; and more.
So, no, not really.
P.S. I did not "woo" the post I quoted.14 -
I heard about metabolic confusion here https://vshred.com/sp/survey/results-female-fl-bt-f3?condition=femaleFatLoss&segment=5&gender=female&age=25&activity=moderate¯ogoal=fat-loss&units=imperial&inches=66¢imeters=90&weight=150&kilograms=0
This dude is asking for money so I honestly don't k ow how legit it is. However, given what he said, it seems I'ved metabolic confusion by accident.
According to this I have a mesomorph body. I lose fat when I change eating patterns easily but then hit a platue that is super frustrating. With whichever diet. Calorie restriction, keto, intermittent fasting. Anything I've startedg well for about ten lbs then I hit a hard platue.
It can be very frustrating especially if you've been working out and doing/eating all the things your suppose to.
How I did it by accident was I decided I was going to intermittent fast and eat keto at the same time. (Intermittent fasting isn't a "fad". There are reasons why it works. It also gives me much needed energy. There's a YouTube video I've watched on it that lists the reasons why it works)
How I accidentally did metabolic confusion was one day I felt tired of eating keto so decided to eat carbs. I thought the next day I thought I'd be upset at my measurements and weight but was pleasantly surprised. Measurements were either the same or half an inch smaller and weight was lighter. Then I'd say I'd eat keto again to eventually get tired of eating keto and ate some carbs again. Then be pleasently surprised again. I kept doing that.
So I can't tell you how to do metabolic confusion. I'm not a dietitian. I can only tell you what I discovered by accident. I'm in the same boat researching metabolic confusion because it seemed to work for me even if I did it by accident.

Somatotypes have been thoroughly debunked.
Every human being loses fat while in a calorie deficit.
If any diet causes you to lose weight, that simply means you were in a calorie deficit while following that diet.
If you are not losing fat when you expect to be losing (a “plateau”), then you are either not in a calorie deficit or are experiencing normal weight fluctuations that keep fat loss from showing up on the scale.10 -

Thank you for posting. Best explanation I have read. I needed to hear this.0 -
Here's a study that I found about metabolic confusion. Apparently it's very effective. I'm going to give it a try. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4018593/9

I've tried practically all the diets out there and my results are extremely small and takes a lot of time normally and it's very frustrating with pure calorie restriction (even can gain weight which is even more frustrating). Atkins made me lose weight at first but then I got really sick from it and had food aversion to meat for almost a year. So, this week I heard about metabolic confusion and gave it a shot. I'm doing more of an Atkins diet one day and then I eat whatever I want the next day and I've lost 4 lbs. this week. And I don't normally lose that kind of weight even starting a diet. So for me it works. Does it work for everyone? I have no idea. But I'll try anything to lose the weight1

Why not just count calories? Losing weight is all about being in a calorie deficit. Do you think the reason the diets don't work is because you choose diets that you won't stick with for life?3 -

Worked for a whole week, eh? Very good. Here's hoping that continues!3
