Why do you believe this to be true? Is it something you have always heard and you never thought to question? I am not trying to be hostile because I once believed it too. I don't believe it anymore.12 -

Agreed. I was afraid to eat white flour for yeeears until I realised there's no need to be. Now I have more scones in my life.9 -

I think there's a little definitional issue here: Sugars are simple carbs, including (as lemur pointed out) the sugars in fruit. That means that 100% whole-apple canned applesauce is a "simple processed carb". And starches are complex carbs. So whole grains and beans have complex carbs, but so do a McDonald's hamburger bun, pasta, and potatoes.
Often, orthorexic people want us to eat more whole foods (which can include fruit and whole grains, simple and complex carbs), and avoid highly processed ones (such as cookies and those hamburger buns, which actually tend to be a combination of fats and complex/simple carbs). Those wanting to pursue low-carb eating typically want to reduce both complex and simple carbs, since both are processed into similar things in the body.
Personally, I like to focus on getting good stuff into my diet, eating mostly nutrient-dense foods, keeping calorie-dense nutritient-poor treat foods to an occasional calorie expenditure, and keeping my eye on well-rounded nutrition that meets my macronutrient and micronutrient goals, keeps me satiated and energetic, is tasty to me, and supports the kinds of social engagement that involve food. It's about balance, IMO . . . and more about what's in my diet, than about what to leave out.

the trick is to eat them quickly so they will no longer be a threat lol.
Everything has carbs. If you have something that's a complex carb and has fiber, I think you're ok.
What mostly matters is to watch your sugars and keep your macro balances in check10 -

Ok... here is a scenario for you. Put an obese rat on a whole food vegan diet or a whole foods keto and they BOTH lose weight. If carbs are "bad", why do these rats lose weight. If you read the contents of the chow of the high carb rats. It's made from wheat and soy that mas been made into a pellet. Closest thing that a scientist can use to simulate an whole foods diet that is easily measured. 🤔6 -
OP you came to the wrong place if you want to complain about carbs. We like carbs and there is no reason (unless you have a medical issue) to avoid them.9

I used to live on a really high carb/sugar diet. I always said i could never get read of potato, chocolate and bread, I struggled to lose weight and control cravings. I tried calorie counting and would lose about 10kgs on a 1200 cal diet but would always gain it back plus more and then lose it again in an endless battle. I went low carb on the keto diet and I have lost almost 20kgs in just as many weeks. Cravings are also gone! I will eventually add carbs back in once i get to my goal weight (half way there now ) But I will forever be limiting the amount of sugar I allow myself to have as it has had a huge difference on my life.3

I'd argue there are other reasoning to avoid carbs... Moderation issues and binge issues are other reasons..1 -
Well that's true - but that could be a reason to avoid anything - fat/carb combinations like cookies, alcohol, whatever.
