RubyRed, Gisel, and NewLifestyle4me inspired me to go through all my pants. Tried them all on, got rid of a bunch, then added 2 dresses to the donate pile.
Girlllllll.... {{{{ Hugs and The HIGHEST of fives }}}}}} "trying on pants ( and a BUNCH of them) that no longer fit is supercalafrajesticexpealdocious honey--BOOM! Added to that major league win is that you're getting rid of them AND the dresses too--you winner you. I'm thrilled for you, period.2 -
Just gotta get that old, busted car out of my driveway. It's been sitting there for a year now, un-driven. It's a huge eye sore and it drags me down a little every time I see it. Talk about a giant piece of clutter. It's time...
How fabulous of you to "see" this and desire to LET IT GO AND DON'T LOOK BACK, is just so terrific--YAY YOU and bye busted car/eye sore and hello nice uncluttered/more attractive driveway--BOOM and YAY YOU!!!1 -
@serendipity22
Good job and now that you are done, come over my house and help me clean-up a couple of cabinets full of very old papers that I have in my garage. The bottom drawer in one of the cabinets is almost touching the floor because the weight of the papers probably broke they hinges. That drawer will have to be the first one to get cleaned because once I open it, it will never close again.
My husband doesn't like to throw papers or old documents because...."just in case, and you never know..." I have old insurance policies and escrow closing papers of houses that we sold a log time ago. Grrr!
Something in my list of things to do after the summer when the garage is cooler.2 -
my goal is to simply my life by cutting out social media time ---- dam it
YAY YOU...only a super tough, wise and COOL person would ever even dare consider giving at least SOME of the distracting, addicting, depressing, overwhelming and time/life consuming thing social media can DEFINITELY be and actually is. You winner you! Thank you ever so much for contributing to this thread. Honey, simplifying your life by cutting back or even getting rid of the majority of your social media ties is so admirable and again, wise and COOL.

Now I have them organized in separate drawers as office supplies, beauty supplies, first aid, tools and small notebooks. Another drawer I cleaned out but haven't decided yet what to put in there (any suggestions welcome). It only took me an hour and I ended up throwing a bunch of junk away. I'm going to tackle the other four drawers tonight.

Thank you. I understand what you wrote about papers. I have a lot of papers to go through. I'm going to work on that this weekend. I'm not finished with this project yet. I organized and cleaned three more drawers but I still have one left. I hope to get it done tomorrow after work.1 -

Thank you for the video. I cleaned and organized all the drawers except one. I now have two completely empty drawers. I look forward to finishing this project tomorrow.
My goal this weekend is to clean out my closet and get it organized. I also have to go through my pile of papers.1 -
It's LATE and I'm about to head off the dreamland and I like to think about or look at something ultra cute or adorable before bed...just so I can smile my way to sleep. This really doesn't have anything to do with decluttering...but perhaps these super SHORT videos will just make you smile and add a wee bit more of YES to your life:

Decluttering/downsizing has resulted in an interesting effect on my life. I've achieved a sense of satisfaction during the process. I'm now able to realize that "I have enough," and be sincerely happy with owning less material possessions. During my younger years, it was very easy to get caught up in the want of buying things, without considering if I truly needed them.
While I didn't consider myself a hoarder, I had lots of items I kept around just in case I thought I might possibly need them one day...even though they hadn't been used in years.
And downsizing also gave me a good feeling to donate to those in need. I truly feel blessed with less.7 -
I've always been pretty good at decluttering and moving things out of the house. One thing I've always struggled with is not constantly moving things it. It was a constant revolving door of stuff, constantly going in and out. I'm working now at reducing my consumption and only buying things when I really need them instead of having to always move things out because I move so much in.5

This "only buying things when you really need them"... is so so wonderful and can take many of us a whole lot of time and purposefully thinking and living to accomplish. That said, it's super admirable though that you move things out to stuff in--that's really really good and a super good place for those of us that may struggle with bringing stuff in and then being overwhelmed with TOO MUCH STUFF.
Thanks so much for contributing to this thread--YAY YOU!!!1 -

Girllllll...me too. Thank you ever so much for posting--congrats on your new mission and it's going to be "something else" as you begin--but as you start "seeing" less and less, you are going to absolutely LOVE it and won't miss anything you rid yourself/your home/closet at all. YAY YOU!!!!1 -

Okay, I'm going to HAVE To reply to my own post--I LOVE THESE VIDEOS so much and they just make me smile from ear to ear and bring me such JOY. Especially when the baby sings pumkie umkie umkin (soooooooo CUTE) and these makes that adorable gurgling type sound saying skookums uckums...I just LOVE it SO MUCH. I love when the little boy just giggles with delight at the DARLING puppy giving it's ALL and how the darling little boy, with LOVE and CONCERN/CARE lets the puppy stop, seeing it's a baby and tuckered out after a short while and says she's had enough"....How LOVING/ADORABLE/DARLING they both are--the puppy AND the little boy....The answer is YES to these terrific happy making vids!!!!!!2 -
I finally threw out (most) of five years' work from my degree. I finished the degree ten years ago and gave the profession up seven years ago. There was at least six boxes (you know the ones they ship bananas in?). It was time to let it go, apart from the fact that it was all out of date anyway and if I went back into that particular profession then I'd have to retrain. I have kept all of my essays though, as I am very proud of them and the grades I got (and I may be able to make some money from them). They only took up one box file. I filled up three huge recycling boxes (and these boxes must hold about 100 litres each). Some of the empty folders have gone to my sons, for their college work this year; the rest are being donated to whoever in the morning.
It didn't bother me at all, getting rid of it. My husband and I have also got rid of a whole load more stuff (we pretty well emptied the garage today) and we now have a huge pile of empty boxes outside of our house, which I'm hoping that the kerbside recycling team will take away on Wednesday.
The only frustrating thing about the whole experience was having to rely on someone else to shift the heavy boxes!
My daughter went to university on Saturday (I cried when we left her, something I was sure that I wasn't going to do but I did) and with her went a huge car load of belongings. The rest of her stuff will be taking a trip to the loft for when she wants to deal with it. Sadly, I have had to spend a lot of time with her over the last few days (I'm not sad that I spent the time, just the reasons for it) as two of her "friends" have been really unkind to her so I have had to help her "declutter" their toxic presence from her life. It is sad, as she is so upset about it but they were really very nasty to her and made the most awful comments about her background (because it is different to theirs, but don't we all have differences?) and in turn her family. Horrible, horrible. She appears to be getting on okay at uni though; she was out "clubbing" last night until the early hours so something must be going right for her.
But back to us. We are slowly gaining space. I hate moving house, it's always such a nightmare for a few weeks.
Tomorrow we will finish the garage, then we will have the space for the large freezer and tumble dryer out there. Then we will be able to get rid of the massive fridge/freezer left by the previous owner which in turn means that we can get the dishwasher, our own fridge/freezer and the table into place in the kitchen. Meals on laps is not fun. Maybe by the weekend, the house will be a little better for us all
I still cannot face scrapping my old bike though . . .7 -
We bought our first house 11 years ago, and The garage (and house) has been full of $h!t since then. I've been working on using less, buying less, and realizing that I don't need to store things that aren't useful to my life now. And just a few weeks ago, I was finally able to use the garage for it's designed purpose. And I still can use my weight rack that my husband built for me (left side of the car), I just put the car in the driveway for a few minutes.2

I have been wanting to join in on this thread for a long time. I pop in from time to time to read people's posts and always come away inspired. I love the focus on getting rid of the tangible and intangible clutter in our lives. I am working on both.
My war on the physical clutter started about two years ago when my son got married. We had a variety of people staying with us over several months. I found myself moving things around and around to accommodate everyone. I realized that I was hoping that no one would open certain cupboards or doors. I promised myself that as soon as the wedding was over, I was going to tackle my home with a vengeance. Instead I fell and injured myself and it took about a half year to recover. And then my elderly mother decided it was time to move closer to me and I have been carry for her ever since. She had a stroke in the midst of all this etc etc. I finally reached the point where I had to start spending some time on me.
That is where I am now. I am determined to do this for me. I am doing this in small pieces. On Sunday, I did the 'pull the clothes out of the closet' approach and bundled up a number of garments to donate to Goodwill. It took me several hours but it felt great. It was also hard to let go of things but I like the new space I have. My husband is a pack rat so this is going to be a long process.
Hopefully being here will give me the motivation to continue moving forward. Weirdly, I feel like I am working on the internal mental clutter as much as I am working on the physical clutter. Now I need to figure out my next mini project.

Who in the heck is clicking "disagree" in every posting?0
-
I'm catching up on business paperwork today. Not much happening.0
-
When I checked the forum last night I saw that every posting had "disagree" marked. I scrawled back several pages, and I noticed that most of the postings had also "disagree." I thought that a troll had taken over the thread because he/she didn't like to be organized, but maybe it's is another MFP glitch. Glad that they are gone now.5

I wonder if there was a disagree bot.3 -
@RelCanonical
I use the website, not the app, and as after I read your posting I went back several pages and noticed that page 69 and most of 70 still have "disagree" in all the postings. A troll or a glitch???2 -
Garage cleared, the pile of recycling was the biggest ever and probably more than that of the other 73 houses put together. One bag of textiles, seven bags of plastic, four boxes of paper and three boxes of cardboard. Oh, plus a box of jars and tins. The council took the lot, which surprised me. One carload of stuff to the charity shop. Sorted out a load of stuff to put on eBay or Facebook this weekend. Big chest freezer cleaned and put in the garage.
Tomorrow the big fridge/freezer leaves my kitchen, then that can go on FB as well. Then I get my dishwasher and table back.10 -
did not want to face the fact I have so many toxic people in my family and food distracted me. It has been a lot easier to lose the weight when I accept and distance myself. I guess taking care of myself with people and food, so people declutering for sure.12

Today we had ReStore pick up an outside grill today that a neighbor gave us two years ago. It is huge and has only been taking up space as we never used it once. It is such a great feeling to let go of something like this.
@Madwife2009 , you mention FB. Are you using the FB marketplace? I have been curious about this but don't want to post anything if it gets shared with my friend list. Any thoughts on this?2 -

Thanks G for noticing--yeah I see a LOT of disagrees on stuff that "disagree" doesn't "necessarily" make sense to me. Though I don't "get-it"...all those random "disagrees" makes me think/see that someone is "feeling" sad/mad or bad
and that makes me think thusly:0 -
