Tomorrow morning I have a health screening appointment, which requires fasting for 12 hours, and then a potluck at lunch. So this will probably be it for me for October. I would have made goal if I'd been willing to run yesterday morning but I wasn't willing to go out in the 17F temps, and later in the day didn't work because we were celebrating my DH birthday. Of course, this morning I went out and it was 11F but today I was willing. Crazy! But willing.
See you all next month!6 -

I have set up the November (November already!! Yikes!!) Challenge and it can be found here:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10770461/november-2019-monthly-running-challenge/p1?new=1
Thank you!!!0 -
@katharmonic thank's for my medal!
@7lenny7 reading about the ultras is amazing, i know i was flippant before but reading the race reports is really cool.
I'm annoyed because I didn't run this morning because I had a padel lesson after school, so that was going to be my exercise for the day. But then that was cancelled due to rain (Romanians are allergic to rain) so instead I ate pizza and lay on the sofa. I could have gone for a run, but as it was raining I wimped out. Booooo!5 -
I have a half marathon planned for November 9th. The weather has finally been cooler. I achieved my goal last month of 25 miles; shortened goal due to being on vacation for 2 weeks.
My new goal for this month is 50 miles. I think that it is an attainable goal.
10/4......7.05 miles.
10/6.....6.01 miles.
10/7....2.03 miles.
10/10...2.87 miles.
10/13....6.04 miles
10/25...4.52 miles... on the White Water Greenway. First run in over a week. It felt great. I had to get back to work right after coming home from Iowa. So more than a week without a run.
10/28...8.01 miles (Monon trail)...58 degrees. I wanted to run farther but the sun was setting. Plan to run 10 miles tomorrow. Mostly up-tempo with a few sprints. Focused on picking up my knees when running on the hills. My pace was pretty good...not sure if I can keep it up for 13 miles. We shall see.
10/29...7.05 miles (Monon trail)....52 degrees, but felt much cooler. Headwinds and overcast sky noted. It was busy on the trail today, observing solo runners, runners in groups...even one walking with a foot in a walking boot. My quads felt trashed. Decided to run somewhat slower but steady. I had to stop at 7 today. My legs were too sore.
Total miles.....43.58 miles
Goal miles....50
Not sure if I will be able to make goal...I have to run 6.42 miles after working a 12 hour shift. We shall see.
My quads are really sore. Going to rub legs with Sunset-cbd oil. I will let you know how well that works.
My race is on November 9. So next week will be a cut-back, taper week. I will have worked six 12 hour shifts out of the next 8 days. It will be easy to not run...to be sure.
So sorry....366 posts behind. I am not going to pretend to be able to read all of those before the next month. The last time I posted was on page 27. You guys are amazing!

I unexpectedly got out of work a little early so I had time to get in more of a run than I expected before my mace class. This was the first run since my HM races that felt decent, I was finally not sore and heavy-feeling. I ended up doing a bit of a progression run because I realized I could probably get 5 miles in if I hustled a little, so I kept pushing the pace a bit more. It was getting dark and I didn't have any lights or anything reflective so the last mile was mostly looping parking lots near the gym to stay off the road. Overall this was a good run!
Mace class was challenging and now I think my upper arms and shoulders are going to be sore. We learned some new sequences that were pretty mentally challenging. I like that about it, you have to think through the steps and it becomes sort of meditative. But also exhausting.
My goal for the month was 97 miles (for vague reasons based on my past miles per month data over the last 4 years) and I'm going to be short of that. I'm not too disappointed in not meeting it as I thought it was a stretch when I set it. Getting over 90 is good.
I'll head over to the November thread as soon as I come up with some kind of goal.

Great race @7lenny7 ! Congratulations on your PR!! I would have had to change my shoes after losing one in the mud. I have very sensitive feet. A little piece of grass you can barely see feels like a huge rock to me. I can't imagine running with a shoe full of mud. I too wonder how the mad in the tie remained so clean. Glad no one fell off the edge at the beginning also. Great pictures. Congratulations again and a very enjoyable race report.
@mbaker566 Sounds like you did great. Love the pictures. Very pretty place to run.3 -
15 miles in the rain and low 60s. Probably my last run until the race Saturday. We will see.8

5 miles at Shelby Farms. Rained all morning but we were supposed to get about a three hour break in the middle of the day, so that’s when we went out. It wasn’t raining but very misty and foggy, despite a stiff breeze which, combined with the damp, felt like it was going right through you. Not really cold, about mid fifties, but felt colder, and I’m not used to the cooler temperatures yet, so I wore my windbreaker and was glad I did. This windbreaker is my favorite piece of running gear; it’s covered in zippable vents so it stays comfortable through a whole range of temperatures. Meanwhile the few other people we saw were wearing puffer coats. It’s funny living in Memphis where anything under 70 is like, “Oh no, winter coat weather!” and then reading run reports from others on the thread wearing shorts down to freezing.
We tried a new route to get to the Greenline, since the rain collects across the path on the trail we usually take, and my husband didn’t want to get his shoes wet. Instead of going out past the buffalo, we did our warm up walk up the trail to Pine Lake, then ran past the playground, then out Chickasaw trail to the road. As it turns out this means we started our run up the steep hill next to the playground, which felt just laughably impossible. I’ve been avoiding hills lately due to my Achilles’ tendon and I need to start adding them back in, before I become a total wuss. Also, Chickasaw trail had several streams rushing across it so our shoes got wet anyway. But it was lovely back in there, the trees are turning and bright golden leaves kept flying past us.
Our cool down walk around the lake was cut short after a mile due to extreme clamminess. But we did see four herons frolicking. At least that’s what I assume they were up to - I had never seen herons act this way. They were great blue herons, and there were four of them, and they kept circling and chasing each other and skimming the surface of the water with their wings. One of them even landed and took off from the water, like a big old swan. There’s a cold front coming through with the first freeze warning of the year, and it seemed like it had them excited.11 -

That's goal for October. I have a HM race on Sunday so I don't have anything on my plan until then, but I might do a short run tomorrow, I hate starting the month out on a rest day!
@Avidkeo I hear you on the bad diet! I've completely let myself go this week - fish & chips, Chinese, roast and Burger King have been my dinners this week I'm feeling so sluggish right now and I know it's because I've been eating so much crap. Whenever I get into a rut like this I give myself the week to eat whatever I want and get it out of my system then get back on track the following week. This usually works until the next time. I find I go off the rails for about a week every few months, but it seems to have all evened out in the end so far.
@7Lenny7 Absolutely fantastic RR and amazing effort. You're a legend!
@mbaker566 Lovely pictures, that looks like a pretty place to run
I'll see you all in November3 -
So I start the day only 3 miles short of my jogging target though 6 miles short of my jalking target and it looks a busy day at work already. I have a 5k in the plan for my route home, some how I will make up the remaining mileage.
Nothing wrong with a roast @kirstymn depending on how much of it you have4 -

Saw this fella on my run last night...
It was kind of humorous because I passed some runners coming from the other direction and they were all warning people about "there is a costume or something on the side of the trail up there" - I guess it scared them and they were making sure no one else was?8 -
It was rainy, cold, and windy last night (25F feels-like temp). So I opted for 8 miles of "crazy laps". When @AlphaHowls mentioned this way back when, I thought there was no way I would every resort to doing that. But my mamma always told me "never say never". I resigned myself to being OK with not making goal this month after my leg pain got bad enough, but the slow, short strides of running indoors allowed me to just make it. On to November. Happy Halloween everybody!

Long time since I've seen Alf...1 -
Looks like I hit 177 miles, which means I was just 2 runs at most shy of my 200 normal. Ah well. Next month new start!4
