The other day I made an omelette for tea.
Was around 500 calories using the recipe builder and made a filling meal.
I have had omelettes before but haven't made them at home.
Used shredded ham, diced leek,mushrooms, capsicums ( what some of you call bell peppers, I think) and sprinkling of grated cheese.
Wondering what other fillings people use that I could try out?

They're the best; I make one most every day. I add seasoning and Nusalt to the bowl while mixing the eggs. As filler, I'll use .25 cup shredded cheese and some kind of meat. Pork is my favorite, but whatever's around is fine.

Tomato with some fresh basil and a few dots of goats cheese.
Spinach and Mushroom.
Philadelphia and sliced black olive.
Omelettes are one of those things that I always enjoy way more than I think I’m going to. I need to make them more often!2 -
I love eggs but not omlettes.
Putting all of that stuff into an omelette, especially cheese and the butter often used to cook them, just adds cals and can turn an turn an omelette into a calorie bomb.
Feel the same way about coffee, which I drink black w/o sugar, cream and other stuff that just adds cals.
So just scrambled eggs (no milk added) cooked w/1 tsp of olive oil in a non-stick skillet and black coffee for me, thank-you.

4 eggs, chorizo, onion and strong cheddar.
(A small amount of olive oil to fry off the chorizo and onions.)
It's not a low calorie option but is delicious.4 -

I spray the pan with cooking spray, then cook spinach, onions and mushrooms. Add 1 whole egg and 2 whites mixed with 1/8 c. 1 % milk, then when it's almost set I add about 1/4 c. shredded cheddar cheese. I love a nice hot omelette!! Doesn't have to be high calorie at all.2

i do spinach, peppers, mushrooms, bacon and cheese in mine routinely - its normally my go-to breakfast on days that i do lower carbs and higher fat2

Anything can go into an omelet, imo. I think eggs make great food wrappers and I think of an omelet as a grain-free wrap.
I've made both sweet and savory omelets over the years.3 -
I love omelettes. Ham is my go to meet but you can use anything. Tomatos in omelettes are amazing too. My everyday omelette is ham and spinach with just enough cheese to hold it together. My perfect omelette would be ham, onions, peppers, mushrooms, spinach, tomato and cheese. When i make that its with 6 eggs and I split it with the Family. We do this once a month.2

I'd rather make frittatas than omelettes. Either way, they are a great way to use up small amounts of leftover meats and veggies.1

I do omelets (or simple frittatas -- by cooking method, but I never use dairy in either) for most breakfasts during the winter. I use whatever veg is on hand plus feta. My usual mix is some sort of green (kale, spinach, chard, whatever), some other sort of veg (broccoli, asparagus, zucchini, leek, peppers), and then depending on what else I used maybe onion or mushroom. I occasionally have bacon in the omelet on weekends, don't really like other meat in the omelet (I will have smoked salmon on the side often). I'd vary the cheese but I just really love feta in omelets.
I think it's funny that some call them calorie bombs -- I use 2 eggs, spray olive oil, minimal feta (which is a relatively low cal cheese anyway), and lots of veg, and the calorie count is pretty low. I usually have some kind of additional protein (cottage cheese, greek yogurt, smoked salmon) or else fruit on the side and still can come in around 350 cal, which is my preference for breakfast. To prefer eggs only for me would not be to eliminate a lot of cals, just a lot of veg, which seems sad (I like to have veg at all meals).
They are also a super fast go to dinner for me in the summer when I usually have a different sort of breakfast.6 -
Perfect example in this thread of why using generic ‘omelette - homemade’ or other generic database entries is a bad idea! 😂
I don’t see omelettes as calorie bombs either but I can see how they could be if they’re loaded up with stuff or made with a crazy amount of eggs or just plain huge!
2 eggs, splash of water. Frylight in a 6-7” pan. Couple of cherry tomatoes, finely chopped, 10g soft goats cheese, crumbled. Under 200cals!

500 calories is on a par with most of my dinners so no problem calorie wise.0 -

Omelettes (and frittatas) are extremely versatile and, in my books, pretty much ANYTHING goes when it comes to toppings! Same as with pizza you may have to balance the water content of the various items... You can also lighten them by adding egg whites or make them heavier by adding cheese or fat during the cooking process.
For the record I have NOT made an omelette with fresh cucumber. Though I have made one with tomatoes. And one with cocoa and chocolate. Not at the same time.2 -
Question - does anybody else use a protein shaker to mix up their eggs for omlettes or scrambled or am I just weird?2

I did say on other thread 'If I remember rightly' it was pav who woo-ed me for saying I dont like cucumber.
Is possible I am remembering wrongly
and yes I know we cant see who woo's/disagrees/hugs us - but in a fun thread about strange woo-ing, I mentioned somebody wooing me for that and Pav (if I remember rightly or somebody else if I remember wrongly) did then confess it was them, they cant understand how anyone could dislike such a refreshing tasty vegetable.
I will not be trying cucumber in omelettes

Pav, I cant remember exactly what thread it was in - and between us we have over 11,000 posts.
is lazy sunday here with nothing much happening - but I'm sure I have other things to do than trawl through 11,000 posts looking for evidence.
Must be some grass to watch grow in my backyard or paint to watch dry somewhere1 -

So delicious, and for those who may not eat meat but like the flavor of chorizo...Morningstar makes a new chorizo crumble meatless product that's AMAZING! I get it from Target.2 -
