    @pancakerunner - recipe me please!

    https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/chocolate-butterscotch-haystacks/

    easy peasy!

@pancakerunner OMG, three ingredients and no baking!

What brand of butterscotch chips do you use? I sent my OH to the store for that and he came back with Great Value brand, which I thought was a little artificial tasting.

I see Nestle has a lot of terrible reviews, but they are old. I tried to sort by Newest to Oldest, but that is not working. https://www.walmart.com/ip/3-Pack-NESTLE-TOLL-HOUSE-Butterscotch-Morsels-11-oz-Bag/47232709

I see Guittard makes them. I like their chocolate chips, but this brand tends to be expensive.

Gor this recipe from ATK today and thought of this thread. It will disappear behind a paywall at some point, so if you want it, save it now.

It's lunch time, when I usually exercise, but all I want to do for "cardio" is shop for ingredients and cook

Just made salted caramels today. I’ve been making caramels since 1981. First time I made salted ones.

My Aunt makes rainbow cookies, she sent me some last year and they were so good! Got cookies from her this year and they were good but not as good as rainbow cookies! Of course that didn't stop me from eating them all right away!

I usually am fine with store brand/off brand stuff but those Great Value butterscotch chips are absolutely terrible. Sickening, really. Fake tasting in a way that others aren't. Yuck!

Right up there with the Aldi version of Velveeta. bad bad bad.

We buy "Best Choice" cheapo butterscotch chips at Kroger that are way, way better and just as cheap. I'm sure the fancy brands are awesome too.

    Salivating here.....
No way am I starting my seasonal baking yet. :/ I don't want to have to do it twice. Kinda like buying candy for Halloween. If I buy it too early, I have to buy it all over again. And it doesn't help to stock the freezer in hopes I won't be tempted. That's just too easy. But pictures are great cause I'm too lazy to make everything. :)

Lebkuchen, German Christmas biscuits, soft gingerbread with apricot jam in the middle covered in chocolate or icing.

They are my most favorite thing, start appearing in the shops here in the UK from November, and it is a constant effort of will to not just scoff packets of the stuff 😆

    No Kroger near me :(

I went back to Walmart and didn't like their other butterscotch choices (it's the closest store to me but not a Super Walmart, and the selection is limited) so I bought Kraft caramel bits and made a small test batch. The caramel did not melt well, and I do not recommend it for this recipe.

Today I went to Stop & Shop, and didn't like their option either, so made a half batch with the Great Value butterscotch I had leftover from magic cookie bars. I don't think the recipients are as fussy about artificial flavors as I am, but fingers crossed. Maybe I will stick them in the tin with the rum balls so the smells merge

Chef John's Chili Chocolate Cookies are my choice for "something different" cookies. I use a smaller scoop and get around 35 cookies per batch.

    https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/221149/chef-johns-chili-chocolate-cookies/

"Just like adding a pinch of salt to dessert recipes makes them even sweeter and more delicious, the addition of pepper in this cookie really makes the chocolate even more chocolaty. The cookies aren't really spicy, but you can definitely tell something strange and wonderful is happening."

I've never made them-but will be making some this next week - I'm going to add dried cherries or cranberries and coconut flakes too on top too.

Personally, I always love spicy gingerbread cookies and my mom's sugar cookies with buttercream...mind you, I just love cookies...most all of them...

I just realized the title includes treats. Aside of cookies I look forward to peppermint ice cream every year. Going to Trader Joe's right before Christmas is expensive as I love peppermint even more than pumpkin spice!

I know this just covers the USA, but it was fun to look at. Maybe someone else can post one for other regions of the world.

For me, it's poppy seed rolls like my grandma made. Haven't had one in many years, though.
