He used to be the drummer for the group Fleet Foxes (which I also recommend if you like anything in the folk genre).

Okay, so I'm not fond of the FFoxes (too country folk for me), but I love Father John Misty. Listened to a handful of his songs & liked them all. He also does really interesting vids, with a downtrodden, street, story line. This is great music to listen to on a long trip. Awesome!

Strangely, even though the title is "Hallelujah" and the first verse mentions a "chord that pleased the LOrd" I never considered this song to be "religious", but a song about the death of love ...

A befriended couple of mine wanted this song to be played on their wedding day ... the wish disappeared shortly after I translated the text to German ...
