Every MFP member who visits the community forums/message boards can potentially see it. Realistically, posts in the Introductions and Getting Started area usually only get a few responses, at most, unless they ask for specific help/advice.

It's not private at all, really: Though you need an MFP ID to see it, they're free and easy to get, right?

Some posts in the other forum topics have literally thousands of replies. Most are somewhere in between.

    Welcome!

Thank you. I am looking to be able to communicate thru a group, however not all of my friends actually have the paid app. do you know whether they can be added to a group that I created if they are not a paid app user?

Users of the free version of MFP can join groups.

Actually, everything in the forum is public on the internet, even without a MFP account. To see, logout of MFP and search on your username. Even the group posts are public. It's important to apply the standard internet safety rules to this site/app.

You can create a private group by going to groups, create new, and then click teh private group button at the bottom.

I wonder if you’re getting confused between the forum (here) and your Home News Feed?

If you post something on your home feed the only people who’ll see it are the people on your MFP friends list.

That sounds more like what you’re looking to achieve?

Just a clarification re Ann's post above:

Your home feed/wall can be restricted to MFP friends only or to people who are logged in with an MFP account only.

The public forums where we now are are regularly indexed by search engines such as Google.

I would call that a bit towards the non-private side-ish
