Love you both! Awesome music & that deep voice is mesmerizing! The "Cuts you Up" vid is breathtaking to me. He's a Bowie-like character... seems alien looking in a good way, beautiful in voice & spirit & tapped into something creative most cannot approach.
My 2nd fave STP song behind "Sour Girl".
I don't care for the silly-creepy imagery in SGirl, aside from Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is just gorgeous in this vid. She had such a lovely rapport with Scott, but said she'd never met him before or after... she was just the actress hired for the vid. I'd assumed they were friends.
Sadly, once a band I love has had such a depressing death of the lead singer (the most important instrument in the band to me is the voice), I can't listen to them anymore. Used to listen to Nirvana daily... I just can't anymore. Same with STP, Alice in Chains & far too many others... it's a sadness I cannot handle.

I can't not listen to them.....just too much a part of my favorite music....but I never listen without thinking how sad it is and what missed opportunities......
Lane, Kurt, Chris, Chester, Scott.....and the list goes on.....so sad.
My wife and I talk about it often and one of the things that always comes up is the people outside of music not being able to comprehend the pressures of the lifestyle. We can try or say we do, but until we're there, we have no idea what it's really like. Only what we imagine it's like.2 -

So beautifully said, although pressures are only exponentially compounded by drugs/alcohol. Those, imho, are the "pressures of the lifestyle". I worked in the industry for 10-yrs (my 1st career) & saw that the aforementioned was the inception to all the woes that followed. No one makes better decisions when inebriated, regardless of situation/job. In addition, we have to assume suicide/accidental OD & I don't think that's the truth in all these cases, but that's another story.
For me, I guess the difference is that someone like Morrison & Hendrix died long before my time, so I have no personal attachment to that sorrow & can feel sad for their far-too-early endings, but can still listen to their music without feeling awful... unlike someone like Layne, who I've seen secretly/spontaneously perform in a small Seattle club of 200... sadly, by that time, he was an emaciated addict, who at over 6' tall, must have weighed less than the average teen girl. His voice was savagely raspy & haunting & I recall the chills, thinking he's not long for this world... he wasn't. Same with Nirvana/Hole... I lived in the same bldg as Kristen Pfaff (Hole's bassist) & ran into Mia Zapata (The Gits singer) on Broadway a number of times before she was murdered.
You must be stronger than me... I just can't listen anymore. Sad, as grunge was the music of my youth.2 -

Okay, so I'm not fond of the FFoxes (too country folk for me), but I love Father John Misty. Listened to a handful of his songs & liked them all. He also does really interesting vids, with a downtrodden, street, story line. This is great music to listen to on a long trip. Awesome!
Yeah, his stuff is quite different than when he was a drummer for FF. I like that ever since he took on the mantle of "Father John Misty" his songs have been making poignant commentary on the American lifestyle, scene and life in general.
I suggest the songs "Chateau Lobby #4" (a love song to his now wife), "Total Entertainment Forever", "Holy *kitten*", and "Bored in the USA". "Mr. Tillman" and "Disappointing Diamonds" are also quite good.1 -
"Alexander Hamilton". It's not playing, except in my head. I saw Hamilton two weeks ago and can't get it out of my head!0

TY for the introduction to his music. I've heard & really do like a few you've mentioned. Taking notes...
Tonight, it's a trip back to no-wave '80s... Killing Joke "Love Like Blood" & The The "Uncertain Smile". It's just going to be a dancing-like-Iggy Pop The The night 'round the Taffy household. Fun + calories burned = awesome!

Being one of the few thousands on the planet who spoke Gaelic as a 1st/2nd language, I do enjoy my Celt kin's tunes.
Afro Celt w/Sinead O'Connor (before she went bloody mad) "Release"... What a voice.
