Hey everyone! I’m excited to begin 2020 with you all.
SW: 239lbs 5/13/19
CW: 198lbs (as of this morning!) 1/2/19
So I’m very happy with how 2019 went overall. I was approaching a very, very unhealthy point, and I ended the year with a net loss of 41lbs, which is a big deal to me. I steadily lost every month starting in May, all the way to the end of October. November was a maintenance month (not by planning), and sadly, December was a month of gains (but not the kind I wanted). I’m not going to beat myself up about my slip up though. I am proceeding into the new year with a positive attitude, and I’ll be sure my actions will follow. This year will be a good one. I have my college graduation coming up May 2nd, I have a trip to Guatemala at the end of May, and I have my best friend’s wedding at the beginning of June. I want to look and feel my best for all of these things. I am determined to! This year will bring a lot of change to my life, but I want it to be positive changes.
My goals are to continue with 5lbs a month as a standard. I REALLY hope to reach 190 again by the end of January, but I know that might be a little bit of a stretch. I got a fit bit for Christmas, so I’m also going to challenge myself with getting more steps in daily. I want to keep my water intake high, with at least 8 glasses daily consistently. I am usually good at this, but at times I realize the day is almost over and I’ve been slacking. I’m going to continue to aim for 1620 calories. I also want to cycle back into my IF (12pm-8pm). It’s just a good way to keep me honest and with a time frame to eat in. I need to become much more active in 2020. In 2019, I biked through the summer and when the weather got bad, I couldn’t successfully find an alternative I enjoyed. I don’t want to start something I can’t maintain, so that will be a work in progress to see what I can do. I’ll take any and all suggestions. I’m not the type of person that will get up early to exercise, and that’s just me being honest with myself. That’s why walking will be my starting point in the new year, and I’ll hopefully be able to pick up a better routine when it gets warmer again come spring.
I’m so excited for this year. I know I can reach my goals, and that I will. You all can and will, too!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻12 -
@gonna_reach_the_goal33 you did great in 2019! And so much to look forward to this year, thats definitely motivation! I also need to exercise more, like you I was active in the summer with my hikes but once if got cold and dark, that stopped. Honestly any activity you do is going to help. Have you considered introducing weight lifting to your routine? That can definitely help with weight loss.
I woke up this morning and went for a 1.43 mile walk around my neighborhood. Its hilly so my heart got up a few times but overall a nice walk. I ate within my calories yesterday and meditated at the end of the day🎉 I also decided to not drink any alcohol this month as a way to show that I’m serious (and to avoid all the empty calories).
Feeling good 😁9 -
@tbellecenter: I had to face down my own issues with food. I started by telling myself I had permission to eat, I just had to be able to say aloud why it was I was eating. Once I did that, I could start saying, "Food will not make them call you back. Food will not make you less lonely. Food will not pull your romantic partner's head out of his behind." And gradually I got to where food is food. I still like food. I love to cook and create good meals for people I love, including me. But I can now tease out whether hunger is actual hunger or just "I always have a snack about now". And I would have been too swamped by emotion to do that before.12

My goal for January is to get to 199. I usually am a little more conservative with my goals, but I've got to kick things in gear here and want to be ambitious. I am feeling motivated and want to make a change. Originally I thought to aim for 203 or 201, but I NEED to make something big happen and losing 1.5/week should not be too challenging as I am just starting out. I'm also annoyed with myself for getting down to 204 last month and then gaining it back.
Other January health goals:
1. Less Alcohol (limit nights where I enjoy wine or a cocktail to 1x/week)
2. Exercise 5 days a week and diversify my exercise a bit (add in swimming and spinning)
3. Log Food every day!
I've been drinking a lot over the holidays which was fun (mostly) but also left me not feeling the healthiest. I thought about doing a "Dry January" but to be honest, I like enjoying wine in moderation and I need to work on that rather than cutting it out entirely. I also noticed there are a handful of social events on my calendar where enjoying a drink will be nice.
It's nice to be here in 2020 with you all! Now, let's make some good changes happen.

@GroverBlue78 I chuckled at your post, I kind of did the same thing the last two weeks of December with regards to pretending calories don't exist. I also had lost around two and a half pounds which I then put back on. I guess it is to be expected! At least we didn't end up putting on more than was lost!
@BrownSugar174 I was not the disagreer but hopefully it was just an accident. I know on my laptop it's really easy to see which button goes to which reaction but on my phone sometimes they get all jumbled up and it can be confusing. I can't imagine what there would be to disagree about.
@fluffyja100 It sounds like you have been through a lot! I'm glad you are healing and are joining us here. It's amazing you've been able to lose 10 lbs since coming home from the hospital, that is so hard being on bed rest. Be gentle with yourself, you have been through it! Once you are cleared for some movement, things will get easier I hope.
@torihudson6 I'm working on changing my perspective about my body too, I have long struggled with confidence issues because of my weight. I like how you worded it. Also, I sent you a friend request because it's so nice to have more active, motivated friends.
Welcome to all the new women, happy to have you join. I found this wonderful group back in November and it has been a great place to get support and cheer each other on.

Warning – long post
Wow! Lots of new friends! Welcome! Good luck with your goals for this new decade!
I am so glad to see all the posts and quotes and resources to help us through this month and year!
@torihudson wowzer on the NYE picture! You look fabulous!
@mmdeveau wowzer too! You look great! Very inspiring!
Since I am going to write a book here…I won’t reply to everyone, but know I have read every post!
I had a lot of time over the last two weeks to really think through my goals. One thing I decided was to set more specific goals for my non-scale goals and also set long term goals in addition to my monthly and weekly goals.
@sharpdust, you inspired me to add hiking to my goals as I really enjoy it, and we have nice weather here too! Congrats on meeting the hike goal in 2019!
@hurleyhurley you also inspired me to set long term goals with non-food rewards!
So, my long term goals that I have set don’t have timelines except the final one…but I wanted to post them here and when I attain them I will surely let you know! They are based on my starting weight yesterday. I did gain a pound from my weigh in on Tuesday…amazing what creeps in sometimes in just a day, but I am sure it was residual from the holidays finally catching up.
LONG TERM GOALS
10lbs – I will be getting a nice pedicure!
30lbs – New jeans! Inspired by the falling off pants story by @mmdeveau
50lbs – Breast Reduction!! – I am not sure if I have mentioned this on the thread but I have been trying to get a breast reduction for 10 years now. My size is 40I. I as in Indigo! Well, I have been told I am definitely a candidate, but for my insurance to cover it…I have to lose weight…very frustrating! I understand in some sense, but the crippling back and neck pain as well as the parenthesis caused by them should be taken into consideration. So, I had a MRI done in December and that was the last step besides losing weight. They couldn’t tell me how much to lose to qualify but there is a chart the insurance company’s go by called the The Schnur Sliding Scale chart which factors in BSA (Body Surface Area). Based on that, it determines how much tissue can be removed…long story short…at the weight I am now based on that chart they would have to remove too much tissue. So I am hoping 50lbs will do the trick and I can actually buy a bra in a normal store!! BIG GOAL HERE FOR ME!
70lbs – A new bathing suit (I will have to get one anyway if I get the breast reduction lol)
90lbs – Trip to Mexico! I would like to make this happen by 2021. We will see! who wants to go with me?!!
January goals – weigh in on Fridays
Starting weight - 252.2
January GW – 246.2 (6 lbs)
1/10 - 250.7
1/17 - 249.2
1/24 - 247.7
1/31 - 246.2
Non scale goals – these are the ones I decided to make more specific
-3 Workouts at the gym – I will work out at 6:30am on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fridays @ 4:30pm.
- Hike or Bike ride on Saturday/Sunday - bought a used bike over the holiday…it’s just a cruiser, so not sure how much of a workout it will be but I will be moving at least.
- water intake – I will drink two 32 oz containers of water at work. Use my soda stream for the remaining 32 at home. 96 ounces a day
- limit alcohol only for special occasions – Special occasion not being a bad day at work lol! I have one planned for January – weekend of the 17th
- Eat out only once a week - not the day before weigh in!! Preferably on the weekend.
Well there you have it! I have been trying to friend some of you and I don't know if there is something wrong with that or not, but be looking for my friend requests as soon as I can make it work!9 -
I’d love to join this group and challenge. I’ve got 70 lbs to lose and I’m ready to get started. I’d love having support of friends to help reach our goals together.14

@theleadmare I LOVE THIS PART OF YOUR POST!!
“Once I did that, I could start saying, "Food will not make them call you back. Food will not make you less lonely. Food will not pull your romantic partner's head out of his behind."8 -
@mmccloy12 those are great goals and I can hear your excitement coming through in your post. You can get there I know it! Heck, I need a pedicure too and if you don't mind I'll join in with you on your 10 lb goal.
I think there is something wrong with MFP today- the website seemed to be down for a chunk of time this morning. Now it's up and running, but I can't seem to add friends, either. I'm in the mood to make new friends. Haha.
6 -
@shorepine of course, the more the merrier!3
-
@mmccloy12, I've been rewarding myself with new shoes for every 25 pounds lost. I'm 4 pounds away from my next pair. Accessories like handbags and shoes are great rewards because they fit you at every size and they last for years. But new jeans after 30 pound loss will be a necessity! I love the idea of taking a trip when you reach your goal weight. Might need to think about that one for myself.8

So I had a hysterectomy and usually it doesn’t bother me because I’ve eaten whatever I want for the longest time 😅 BUT now that I’m trying to behave, because I still have my ovaries and I still cycle 👿😡 omg I have been DYING for all things unholy 😭 I need to just get through this! I can do this!10

Hi everyone!
Sw: 213 Sept 2019
Low weight in adulthood: 182 in 2014 ( then had 2 children lol)
Cw 202.2
January goal 195
Ugw 135
Height 5'6"
Age 34
January goals
1. Get my house clean...omg 2 little girls really make this a hard one lol
2. Start my lessons for becoming a home inspector ( I love construction and want to flip houses but need the $...this is a win-win for me)
3. Not much time to work out so to do at least a 15 min hiit YouTube video and a 10 min yoga video per day ( helps with my mental focus too)
4. Spend at least 15 minutes a day with my son one-on-one. He is almost 13 and feels a little left out after his sisters were born. He was an only child for 7 years.
My husband is planning an extremely long delayed honeymoon for June and I want to be between 160-170 at least..not shooting for ultimate goal weight because that is way to ambitious.

@shorepine I was having the same issue all morning. It seems to be working now though!3

Hello, ladies! 🙋🏻♀️ I’m so glad to have found this group, as I need all the motivation and accountability I can get. 😉
My goals for this month are simple: get away from the sodas and drink water, instead; and MOVE MORE!! Wish me luck!7 -
Hi, how do I get added to this group? I don’t see the option to join.3
-
Hello! This year I want to love myself again! 2020 here we go. I use to be so much more outgoing and due to weight gain throughout my life, I have shut down. Time to take back my goals and not be afraid because of my appearance! Took alot to even download this app and make a post but I want to break my fears. I want to see my progress and hopefully successes. My goal is to lose 50+ lbs this year. It looks like there's lots of positivity and support here which is what I need to see to keep me going.
1/2/2020- 255lbs

@mmccloy12 I really like your tiered rewards system for each milestone! I’m gonna think about what mine can be.

Hello all!
I am determined to get back at my weight loss journey after a very difficult year. I'm looking forward to 2020 and excited to get healthy again. In 2017 I lost 70lbs on WW but after my sister got cancer last January, I have since put on 50 lbs. I know I know better but the stress got the best of me. I'm ready to get back to where I was before all hell broke loose in my life. I am happy to report that my sister beat colon cancer and is well on the road to full recovery. 2020 is me time. I look forward to supporting each other.

I can’t wait until I can look at food like fuel instead of like the enemy. Right now I see healthy food options like a chore or work instead of like something I should be proud of for choosing. We went out for dinner to IHOP tonight and I chose the simple and fit 2 egg dinner. Because of my sleeve surgery I can’t eat it all anyway, so that’s a bonus and I don’t like pineapple so that eliminated the fruit. My kids stole my toast and turkey bacon which left me with my egg whites 😂 now should I have been proud I picked the ONE AND ONLY healthy meal on their menu? Yes. I should have. It tasted just fine. But I still had to food grieve over all my favorites and all the other choices that are not an option on this journey. Ugh. To those of you who don’t miss the junk...I wish I had your taste buds.9

@mmdeveau I am originally from Philly and very familiar with the Broad Street run! Crossing my fingers you get in!
@speyerj the shoes and purse idea is fab...will look at adding those type of rewards too! Good luck on your marathons!
I am on my phone right now so I can't reply to everyone! Hoping to get some time to do that soon! So inspring...all of you!!2 -
My Jan challenge log:

Current Weight: 289.2 (-20.8 lbs)
Challenge End Goal Weight: 280
Start - 11/01/2019 - 310.0 lbs (SW)
Nov - 11/29/2019 - 298.5 lbs (-11.5)
Dec - 12/27/2019 - 289.9 lbs (-8.4)
Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to the new comers to the thread, let's all smash our January goals!
Goals for January:
Continue my daily logging streak - hit day 60, woot! - All food logged, no matter what...own that twix bar, don't beat myself up and if I am going to have a mini twix, enjoy the bajeezus out of it and factor it in to an overall healthier diet. That being said, twix taste better when you haven't had one in a while... reminder to self that abstinence makes the taste buds sing louder. LOL
Avoid fast food - it's been 2 months and am not missing it. At some point it'll be a thing, road trip, CE trip, whatever, but for it's not worth the calories.
Gym - at least 3 good workouts weekly at the gym or gym equivalent workouts. Continue working on my jogging. Jogged a continuous 1.5 miles this past week, a first for me in my life. Jogged a mile on the treadmill with elevation adjustment to keep steady HR in the cardio level following a group gym workout and it wasn't as hard as it should have been, so I really think my cardio is improving. My knees didn't even hurt the next day. There's an inkling in the back of my mind that maybe I could actually run a 5K some day. Let's put that up to a 2020 goal - jog a 5K continuous.
Explore more lower calorie, but filling meals. Egg drop soup with smoked chicken sans thickening agent made a nice meal at 200 calories a bowl. This week's effort was a thinned down chili. (Have been increasing water content on meals as I'm just not a big water drinker otherwise.)
Continue to maximize fresh cooking with lean meats, fresh veggies and fruits, minimizing breads/pastas/processed foods.
MEAL PREP / PREPLAN MEALS - this goes so far for me to making healthy choices at work where stress and lack of time otherwise would drive choices of vending machine food or fast food or partaking in the donuts/cookies/cake/snacks that show up, particularly this time of year.
Above all, my goal is to continue to focus on keeping a positive attitude. Our journey is so much more enjoyable when we love ourselves, our real selves - not how we look, but who we are. Yes, I want to be leaner, stronger, healthier. I want to be here longer for my kids as they grow. I want it to be easier to be active and participate in activities, to shop in the regular clothes sections, to not squeeze into an airplane seat, but you know what? I think I'm pretty awesome and I deserve to reach my goal. Let's kill it in January, everyone!
A little music while we're taking a moment to think about how truly awesome we really are:
"I Love Me."
("I love me" by Meghan Trainor, performed by Emoni and Voiceplay - great version.)7 -
Happy new year everyone!
SW: 210
CW: 189
GW: 120
I’ve been trying to lose weight on and off over the last few years. Finally motivated enough to stick with it this time around (I hope...fingers crossed).
My goals for the next 6 months are:- Go to the gym at least 5 times a week and if I can’t go, do a home workout on those days
- Prepare all of my meals
- Cut out added sugar, processed foods
- Reduce dairy and carbs
- Do a 3 or 5 day juice cleanse once every month
- By month 2 or 3, sign up for some classes at Barry’s boot camp. I’m hoping to do 3 a week for a month
- Start logging my measurements too rather than just weight
- Lastly, enjoy the process, keep learning and improving, love myself each step of the way and appreciate the challenge.

Happy Friday
Love seeing so many new faces and old friends for the new year. I've been in Nashville with Momma for surgery again but got great news. The dr was able to get all the remaining tumors!! Now we wait for pathology and see what type of treatments she can tolerate with only one not so great kidney. Still an awesome way to start the year off.
Yesterday was no exercise and a butterburger/custard day. Today I've gotten my yoga and strength done. I'm thinking of making up a pot of veggie soup and I need to roast some sweet potato chunks. For those who read my diary y'all know I love those lol.
Got a lot to read back and catch up with. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay committed and get active. We got this!11 -
@bluffgirl67 What great news about mom! Prayers for successful treatment plan and healing!! Hugs!!5
