Ok Dr visit is done! 7 lb loss since last visit he’s pleased. BP is back up but not high, just not where I personally want it to be. I prefer 120/80. The new standards are 110/70 or no higher than 120/80. I consistently run 130/90. Again, if I’d exercise it’d help my heart to pump stronger and my vascular system would be able to handle the pressure (hence it being called blood pressure). I think my doctor hasn’t started any medical treatment for my BP because I am working so hard to lose weight and be healthier. We’ll get there, right?12

My wt is right back to where it was a couple weeks ago AGAIN. So frustrating. 58 yo - I sure do hear some of the previous posters who commented on postmenopausal status.7

Sorry @cory17! I hate how our bodies change and hormones make our weight fluctuate. I’m not looking forward to it 😭 it’s already hard enough as it is. Keep trying! Keep up your nutrition and don’t give up 🥰 we’re here for you!5

@Terytha, that sounds so exciting!
@speyerj, I can't remember if I said it is also exciting that you signed up for a race, too!
@VictorSmashes, I struggle when food is out and available, I work at a university and there is SO MUCH free food. That has really been a struggle for me.
@Danielle__S, that is unbelievably true. Once you're there, you made it!
@Savannah80, just by your posts, it seems like you're experiencing a steady loss! It can take awahile to figure out what our body's exactly need and what works best. A 0.5lb loss is still a loss!
@kali31337, that looks like a great week, also congrats on passing your exams!
@lilann1961, nice job meeting your goals!
@aliciap0116, nice job getting into those jeans! I don't think I would have wanted to get out of them either.
@Tarzan37, nice loss! Shoveling snow is the WORST, I hate doing it.
@mmccloy12, I hope the home gym works out, also nice loss!
@vegasgirl0825, I understand,it is so hard when you are doing all you can and it feels like your body isn't cooperating.
@chelo2u and @karenscfld and @KristinaPS713 , welcome!
@bluffgirl67, go you, you've had a lot going on and you're still sticking to it.7 -

Hello everyone! I have been a MFP member for 9 years or so but am returning from a 3 years or so break (at least from consistent logging). 7 years ago I lost about 130 lbs with MFP. After maintaining for several years I let the emotional struggles of parenting a teenager going through gender identity crisis get the best of me and I fell way off the bandwagon. In the interim, I developed thyroid disease, osteoarthritis in multiple joints, pelvic organ prolapse, and shoulder impingement which have made it virtually impossible for me to return to the physical activity plan that worked so well for me before. No more weight lifting, runnning, or high impact aerobics for me. Perimenopause has also reared its ugly head and the weight gain associated (especially around the midsection) has left me feeling helpless. I am now about 60 lbs up from my low in 2012.
I had my annual last week and decided with my physician to try low dose Phentermine for a few weeks to kick start my new journey to wellness! (Please don't judge). The first week has been a success! Seeing the scale trend down this week has been enough to motivate me to search for the plan that will work for who I am NOW (body, mind, and spirit). I am encouraged!
I wish all of you ladies the very best! Cheers to us!11 -
@gonna_reach_the_goal33 You are doing great!! Having the 189 in such close sight is going to be a wonderful motivator.
@speyerj Look at you throwing that gauntlet lol. A bunch of my friends keep posting about their hikes on fb. I want that!! So I'm gonna pick up your challenge, find a beginner trail (I live at the bottom of Appalachia so we have beautiful hiking places), and build up my stamina for a March hike. I will take hubby with me because I know he won't mind going at my pace. He hikes mountains all the time during fall to harvest ginseng and is in shape.
@BrownSugar174 You are in the zone!! I know your sister would be so proud of how you have taken control of your health.
@theleadmare Great job on planning lunch out. I like the idea of looking at this as just another part of being an adult. So true. Also what a nice NSV. Between the jeans and bra your body changes are really showing. I know the weight of breast volume was one of my instigators. I would lie down at night and the heaviness was literally painful. I would often roll up a bath towel to put in between when laying on my side. Anything to help ease the pressure.
@CupcakeCrusoe Thanks. I've noticed you've been logging those grams. I've never been one to step out. I much prefer the shadows and hugging the wall. I'm not sure how adventurous I will become. I'm going to start writing down things I want to try instead of just dreaming of them in my head.
@Aerohead21 Great visit!! Yes, you will get there. Look at all you've already accomplished. It's nice your dr is confident in your ability to lower the bp on your own. He sees the work too.
@cory17 There is going to be ups and down. What matters is how you handle the downs. Focus on logging accurately every bit and every day while keeping at or a hair under your goal. It will happen for you.4 -
@mmccloy12 I do weigh and measure and feel that I am accurate. I even measured the food I ate last Sunday so I could record those calories. My goal is 100 ounces of water a day. In all honesty, I usually average between 70-100 ounces depending on the day. I know it's suggested to drink half your body weight in ounces of water, so I'm not drinking that much, but still feel as though I'm drinking quite a bit! I know I have to be patient, I just like that instant gratification! lol
@Lasmartchika I love your graph! And, yes, I totally know that's what this journey looks like...I just don't like it! Haha!
@bluffgirl67 I definitely did expect to be "up" after Sunday, but not 5#'s when I weighed/measured all the food I ate and was only over on calories about 400. I think that's just why I'm so mentally irked! The math/science teacher brain I have says the numbers don't add up right!!! And I do know I am down since Monday, I just feel I shouldn't have been up as much as the scale said! I'm still plugging away...even though right now I'm crabby about it!
@torihudson6 Yes! Exactly! I 100% feel like my body isn't cooperating!
Thank you all for your comments! It always helps to know that I'm not alone. Sometimes, because I work with a lot of very "fit" people, I feel like others don't understand the daily struggle that I have with food. Even though we would all probably prefer to not be in this "club", I'm thankful to have others taking this journey too!9 -
I have been so pumped up in taking this journey, and making my whole family healthier by making better choices with groceries and in the meals I am making. I have exercised regularly for the first time in my life...I worked out 7 out of the last 10 days. Today was a rest day for me and I did some stretching and yoga for my recoop activity. BUT my mind got to wandering today, not about how great this was going to be for my health, not how good I am going to feel to get this weight off... it went straight to OMGosh what in the world am I going to look like if I do lose the weight I am recommended to lose. That would be 100 lbs. I thought...HOLY COW, I'm going to look like a swamp monster...with this hanging here and that hanging there...and I have to be honest it really freaked me out. I always in the past have found a way to de-rail my success and progress when it was made and I am so scared my mind is trying to do that again now. Is this something anyone else thinks of? WHY am I doing this to myself??13

@lbostic89 - you aren't likely to have an issue with excess skin if you are losing only 100 pounds, assuming that your weight is relatively evenly distributed. People who end up having operations to remove excess skin have lost 150 pounds or more and generally it's not just skin they are having removed - liposuction is part of the process to remove stubborn fat.
I haven't lost 100 yet, but after 80 pounds, I have some puckering on my stomach, definitely some cellulite, but then I am not finished losing yet. Lose skin just looks like an very wrinkled sheet and it will eventually smooth out.
Relax, enjoy the great feeling that you have in taking charge of your health. You will never regret starting this journey.8 -
@bluffgirl67 Thank you! And yeah it's a delicate balance lol
@torihudson6 Exactly. I did try to budget for it, but went overboard and should have limited myself to one slice and one snack. Oh well, that's over.3 -
Hi,
I’m new here and to MFP. I’ve done it for only a week now and I am now sourcing motivation. My bad habit is that habits don’t stick to me. I have recently been plagued with the permanence mindset: that nothing is going to change- and I no it’s not true.
Height 4’11”
SW: 162
Currently: 161
Target goal: 135
February goal:
Meal prep and eat what I prep.
Exercise at 4 times out of the week.
Wake up and move.6 -
My jeans are too big.
The next size down is too small.
I need a belt.
I hate belts! The buckles always bruise my stomach.
But I also am not liking the ever growing risk of my pants just falling off in public. My workplace is pretty casual/forgiving but maybe not THAT much.
I wish I could just wear skirts. Unfortunately, I wrote the rule that forbids them.
Giiirl this spoke to me. I was legit walking home yesterday trying to hold up my pants so they didn't fall off and when I came home to try on a smaller pair, they also don't fit. I think I'm going to just live in leggings until the new pair fit. I don't own a belt and as I don't have a dryer, I can't try to shrink the older pair.5 -
@ibostic89 I freaked out about loose skin when I started this journey, I haven't got very far yet but the promise I made to myself was that I would review the situation as I go. You could review the swamp monster situation each time you lose 10 lbs, I bet you will think it has been worth it each time, even if you're a bit wrinkly under your clothes you will look better with them on.5

@lbostic89, we don't have to worry about that yet. In my particular case, I carried three large babies "all out in front" and I am shortwaisted, and so I know there is no way the skin on the front of my abdomen will shrink down enough to be smooth when I weigh 140 less than I do now. My final goal is somewhat based on surgical criteria, because I want a waist and if getting the weight off doesn't do it I'll go the surgical route. I need to have ab surgery anyway because carrying those large babies caused a diastasis recti, and if I want full core strength to support my back, that has to be surgically corrected.
But even I am open to being surprised. I'm just down fourteen pounds, and my body is definitely firming itself up. I don't think I have to worry about the skin that made the lower back folds. I probably won't need to worry about my inner thighs, and even probably will be okay on my upper arms. And who knows, more of my abs skin may shrink than I expect. It's a journey. Sometimes it's okay to raise your eyes from the path to look ahead at the mountain; sometimes it's a bad idea because you'll just scare yourself unnecessarily.6 -
Good morning ladies! Doing a little happy dance this morning after my weigh in!! So nice to see the scale move!!
SW: 288 4/19
CW: 211.1
GW: 144? To be determined when I am closer.
2/1: 211.1
2/8: 206.2
2/15:
2/22:
2/29:
Seeing the scale move is rewarding but there are so many NSV that we have to focus on when we hit plateaus.
Mine are: putting on the new pair of jeans I bought about a month ago and having them be quite loose. Yay! Getting out of my car after driving for a while and not hurting when I stand up! Those things matter! ALOT!! No one said this journey was going to be easy or without bumps along the way, but it is so worth it! We are worth it! Love to all you lovely ladies!!9 -
Good morning!
I’m getting a little discouraged. 😭
Yesterday was my splurge day, I was till below my calorie intake by 233. (I’m having a hard time cutting down the carbs.) I feel like I look smaller but the scale says I’ve gained 2 pounds. I’ve been doing so good on not snacking throughout the day, drinking water and logging everything.
I was at 204.6 now I’m back up too 206. I know it’s not much but to me that’s a lot when I’ve been working so hard it seems.
What am I doing wrong?!?!?7 -

That's water weight for sure. Just keep your deficit and trust the process
As long as you're sure you're logging accurately, nothing to worry about.
Showing my own non-linear weights for an example. You can see that despite my fluctuations, I'm overall going down, and that's what matters.

Good morning love @ericak6722. Stay strong💪🏽. Have you been eating high in sodium? That that causes me to retain water.5
