Since I weigh in nearly every day, I found that I lost another 1.2 lbs to get me to 197.6 lbs this morning. I'm not trying to lose this fast, but I'm not going to complain. I ate less than a 300 calorie deficit yesterday, so I'm not sure where that all came from. I also had probably close to 2 L of fluid, if not more yesterday, so I'm not dehydrated! Whatever it is, hoping I can keep it up. I'm also just hoping that it's not related to this cold I have.
@torihudson6 I appreciate it! I'm thankful it feels just like a little cold. Guzzling fluids like they're going out of style!
@mfpphoenixx Good luck! On the other hand, I heard from a nutritionist that chocolate is good for you, at least compared to some alternatives. It can actually reduce inflammation, too. It generally has less carbs by % than granola bars because of its fat content. However, I know that keto is based on a total carb per day, so I'm definitely not here to tell you what to do, it's just some food for thought. (I can try to find the resources if you're interested?) Good job on the trend downward, too!6 -
@science_and_fairies and @erarebirth - Starting a calorie deficit and a vigorous exercise program at the same time is hard. I couldn't do it. I didn't even try to exercise my first month on a 1000 calorie deficit and just concentrated on food. Then I added exercise, slowly. But if you are committed to doing both, here's something I recently learned from an RD who specializes in sports medicine:
Within 45 minutes after vigorous exercise, consume at least 15 to 20 grams of protein. That could be from a full meal or a high protein snack like deli turkey, Greek yogurt or a protein drink. Also drink copious amounts of water. Your body needs the protein to rebuild muscles. Feeding your body protein afterwards cuts down on the cravings that stick with you the rest of the day.
@mfpphoenixx - Maybe Keto isn't the right plan for your husband. He's still losing and if he's at least cutting down on sugar, it will still help his numbers - both A1c and triglycerides. But yes, it is frustrating that when you are doing everything right and the numbers barely move and your husband makes one small change, like giving up beer, and drops weight faster than you.

I don't think there was hardly a time in my life that I was under 200 lb. But now that I'm getting older it's harder to lose weight. I'm glad that there is a site for those of us that are 200 lb and over and just trying to stay healthy

@mmdeaveau: One of my greatest problems is that my body dysmorphia is so bad that I don't want to touch that skin at all. It's eased up a little as I've lost some weight and been exercising, but I still just can't. (sigh) I hope that eases off as I lose weight.5

Yesterday was my weigh in day and I commented that I hadn’t lost much. My thinking for that was that Aunt Flo had paid me a visit that week. Well yesterday was her last day here. I weighed in this morning to see if my period had had any effect on my weight loss. Well lo and behold I lost 600grams overnight (1.3 lbs). Bringing my total weight loss for this week to 1.2kg (2.6 lbs). I’ve just entered my 3rd week and this information has been quite valuable. I’m wondering if this will be a pattern each time I start a new cycle. Have you ladies noticed any sort of pattern at that time of the month?6

@mmdeveau the skin issue is actually a mark of your success. From what I hear it doesn’t have to be permanent. You need to give your skin time to catch up to the rest of your body. I like how you applied the same type of research to this issue as you do to losing weight.
@VictorSmashes I found that water helps me lose faster so you would do better at my water intake.
I still haven't gone back to read the posts I missed during the end of the week but will since it is rewarding getting the benefit from all of your wisdom.
I am down to my low of last week and hoping to go lower. My highs are lower and I am staying lower but looking to have that lower low that will establish my downward trend for the week.
Just trying to deal with the loss this weekend and a bit concerned about not being organized for the week ahead. We are planning a healthy salmon dinner tonight. I still have supplies for my breakfasts this week. I should be able to get back on my exercise schedule since there are no night meetings. Glad we have a 3 day weekend coming up.6 -
Shoveled snow for three hours today and then walked my pup when I got home. I am so tired and sore right now - the soreness is mostly from the shoveling I did on Friday I think. Drank a bunch of water throughout the day but still have a bit of a headache.
I burned so many calories that I'm letting myself enjoy some Valentine's candy as I watch the Oscar's tonight!

@KeriA Makes sense! On the other hand, my TP usage has probably tripled since I started drinking multiple Liters. I think I'm at 2 L again and it's only 7pm.

Yes!! I was just going to post about this. Two months in a row I had the anticipated 1.5 lb increase (along with bloating, cramping, etc) for the first two days of my period and then a 2.5 drop overnight. The thing is, I also felt different - super light. Looking to see whether the loss sticks but it was nice!! Note that I did eat less when I felt bloated and uncomfortable, as I had very little appetite.3 -
Well I went back and read the end of last week posts and I am not relying to all after so many days but just a few:
@bluffgirl67 I am impressed at how you are planning for this trip. I hope the surgery goes well and you are able to take care of you too. I have had stints with my mother in the hospital but it has been nearby and I had support with my siblings. Could you explain the pb fit/yogurt snack? It sounds interesting and I feel I need some yogurt and a snack option in my diet now.
@shorepine I regained because I didn’t adjust my calories to being too busy to get as much exercise. I think we need the numbers sometimes.

@KristinaPS713 I find setting a goal weight doesn’t work well for me. I just want to be losing. I guess I am focused on direction and progress over distance and pace. However on the other side the pace gaining can be so much faster so I need to be on my guard.
My February Weekly Goals are:
1. Continue to go to Aquafit 3 times a week
2. Improve my weekday breakfasts
3. Log weight, food and exercise
4. get into the 250s and stay in them
5. Make progress adding in exercise on days I don’t go to aquafit
6. Make healthy foods at home
7. get enough sleep and improve water intake
8. Check out this thread more often
As for last week's focus:
• continue to improve on weekday breakfast plan in place (this went well early in the week)
• log more consistently (I did well with this)
• check in on this post during the week more (I did better until my night meeting)
• add in at least 15 minutes of exercise on top of Aquafit days ( didn't achieve this at all, in fact due to my meeting and the Y's fail I only got one day in last week)
I am a bit concerned for #6 right now.
So this week I want to continue to focus on weekday breakfasts, logging, checking in here during the week, get back to my Aquafit days and see about adding another day of exercise in if only for 15 minutes.

Good morning ladies, you've all been very busy posting messages over the weekend. It's difficult for me to keep up! Glad you all seem to be making headway and supporting each other. I am reading posts but can't reply to them all.
@CupcakeCrusoe I am definitely logging every single thing that passes my lips, even the 'bad' stuff. So I know my diary is accurate. I'm just struggling at the moment to find the right calorie intake level so that I loose weight and don't gain or put my body into starvation mode so it clings to the fat reserves. I'm hoping I'll find that balance soon.
@aliciap0116 I know what you mean about weight loss not being linear. I'm just an impatient person who wants to see results every week and I perhaps get to disheartened when weigh in doesn't show me what I think I deserve to see. I think to myself "I have a lot of surplus fat to loose, so it should fall off quicker than this" ... apparently not. Seems like I can put on 5lb in the blink of an eye, but try really hard to shift the weight and I loose 0.5lb in a week. It's rather frustrating.
@Aerohead I'm drinking 3 litres of water a day in a bid to increase my body water % as it's low. I'm not experiencing any swelling doing this. I'm also not seeing much of an increase in my body water %. I'm not sure how else to remedy that.
@mmccloy12, @bluffgirl67 & @torihudson6 - yes you are all right a 0.5lb loss is still a loss and so I should be content with that. It's just frustrating when you think you've nailed it and done everything right and then only see a tiny loss like that. I'm afraid I am a pessimist at heart and it's difficult not to be disheartened when I see only small losses or maintaining weight. I've got a lot yet to loose and it's not going anywhere fast.
@speyerj I did download Libra, but I'm not sure it gives me anything extra that I don't already have in my FitBit App. That tracks my weight. I also have a spreadsheet going back to May 2012 that tracks my weight. I can get really obsessive about it and have resulted to unhealthy weight loss tactics over the years. Nothing I've tried seems to work and keep the weight off. In that last 8 years I've logged me weight I've been down as low as 151lb and up as high as 208lb. I go up and down, and every time I go back up, I put on more that I lost the last time
@mmdeveau Thanks for the half marathon good wishes. I'm still feeling grossly underprepared for this one. Last time I followed a strict 12 week plan and was doing 3 runs a week with long runs on a Sunday of up to 2hrs long in prep. This year I'm restricted by this achilles tendinitis issue and haven't been able to run futher than 8km (5 miles ish) in one go. So I won't be on for a new PB thats for sure. I just want to get around. I did complete my 25 miles over January challenge though, so that's something at least.

Y'all. I weighed in at 202.2 today!
I am not meaning to do this at all, but I guess I can eat back a few more of those exercise calories than I thought (right now Libra tells me my average deficit is 761 calories a day)- I'd only been eating back maybe 100-120, at most.
I am now officially obese class 1 instead of class 2! I didn't think I could get to onederland this month, but it's looking like I might!
And it's all due to logging in grams. So thanks for the encouragement and example, @bluffgirl67 !
On that good note, it's running day! Do your best and kick it in the *kitten*, everyone!

Overall, I had an ok weekend. While my food choices were not great, my CICO stayed fairly smooth. I started my first "Couch to 10K" run on Saturday, with my crazy dog, and it went very well! Plan on doing (for now), a Sat/Tues/Thur plan to get me ready for the September 10K (and a 5k with said crazy dog in June).
I had one martini yesterday (have remained alcohol free (AF) for 6/9 days this month), so still keeping a limit on all alcohol and that has made a difference in several things.
Thinking positive for my weigh in on Friday!
@Savannah80 I am envious of your half marathon prep! You got this!! I, too, suffered from feet/tendon issues and it kept me from running for almost three years (one while I got the pain, one to figure out and manage the pain, and almost another one making sure it is actually healed). Plantar fasciitis and tendinitis on the outside of my both feet sidelined me a bunch (and greatly affected my mood), so I am restarting as slow...as...possible in hopes of not getting any of it back.8 -

A couple months after I started MFP, husband did too. He lost about 50 lbs by the end of the year and a LOT of inches. Everyone comments to both him and me about how much smaller he is. I got more of those again today from my coworkers since they saw him on Saturday for a work event.
I never get comments like that, despite losing 73 lbs... And my loss has stalled AGAIN. I've bounced up to 202.
It's not his fault he had less to lose and that he's taller and more active than me. It's not even about him at all, I'm just frustrated and I wish I was closer to being done than I am and everything seems slower and harder since New Year's.12 -
@Terytha: I entirely understand. (hugs) I lost eleven pounds in January and then STUCK. And for four weeks I watched everyone on my feed lose two pounds, three pounds....and my weight stayed stable, an ounce up and ounce down. It's totally maddening.
All I can say is that we're doing the right thing, and we just need to keep (metaphorically) putting one foot in front of the other, and the weight WILL move.11 -
@lilann1961 Yes, that exactly how I am with my running. Except I took 3 months out and then tried to come back, but I'm getting pain in the back of my heel after every run I do at the moment. It's so frustrating as I was doing so well with my running, now I feel like I'm starting all over again. I have no doubt I'll get around the half marathon course ... but it won't be quick and I'll probably be walking very gingerly the following days.6

I struggled mentally this past week in not believing that my body knew what the heck it was doing! Obviously I just need to chill out, because I am very happy with my loss. I also found that I was getting kinda crabby about food and instead of choosing fruit/veggies for snacks like I did the first couple weeks I was grabbing more carb loaded ones--which is fine, but I know they don't keep me full for long, and I wasn't getting in enough fruits & veggies on those days. I went back into my diary for the first couple weeks and looked at what I was eating and am attempting to re-do those weeks somewhat. I made a big batch of cabbage/veggie soup yesterday to have for meals/snacks during this week and stocked up on more veggies for snacks. I'm in a huge grapefruit kick right now too and I've been buying the already sectioned cups of grapefruit w/o sugar and have one a day. My other big go-to snack has been low-fat cottage cheese with sugar free peaches on top. I'm still trying to make it into the fitness center at least 3 times a week, and that's been going good because a fellow teacher and I go together so we have some accountability. I'm looking forward to Friday because we are going out for a nice dinner--I already know what I'm going to eat, and it's not over the top in calories (seafood), but I know I'll splurge some. Knowing that is what's helping to keep me super focused this week! Here's to another week y'all! We got this!7 -

Have you thought about going up to maintenance calories for a week or two? I'm trying to find the article I read right now (found it- it's by this guy), but if your weight is stalled, it might be worthwhile to take a week or two break, eat at maintenance, to show your body that hey, it's okay, we can keep going. And you can get to eat more, reduce stress, get used to the maintenance calories for your smaller frame, he makes a good case for it.
Couldn't hurt, would be fun, might help! I've never actually done it, so it's up to you whether you'd like to give it a try. I plan on taking one such break in a month or two, when my weight loss is probably going to stall.8 -

I did that over Christmas and New Years, and it honestly feels like I've stopped losing weight as a result. I only lost 2 lbs all of January.6 -

I did like, no exercise all weekend. But right now the weight loss is sticking. I'm still at 197.6, ahead of my "schedule." I think that other than the fact that I'm losing weight faster than I intended to, my "scheduled" goals are lofty, and I might have to dial it back once things start to plateau. I think I have it set to 7 lbs loss every month until August, which I can't usually make although this month is definitely an exception.
But if I had to infer anything from the changes I've made so far, it's drinking a TON more water/tea and upping my fat intake has helped so much. I've been trying to up my protein but most days it's fat that overtakes. I'm not a big meat eater so I've never understood when people consistently meet protein goals. I can't even do it with protein powder! I don't even like eggs, but I've eaten so many per day because there's no chew involved (take the lesser evil, I guess?). And even when I make tofu, it ends up just in general low cal all around. Anyway, that's a goal of mine...
I realize maybe today is not a good day to ask since some of y'all are not having the best luck, but if you wanna answer this then go for it: What kinds of personal "revelations" on health and/or weight loss have you gals had?
@vegasgirl0825 Looks like you've already thought about this -- I love the idea of going back to basics, or back to what you know worked. I totally love cabbage soup; my mom does keto and when I lived at home she would make it. Mm, delicious. And I just got a sample fruit cup of grapefruit, but I'll be honest I'm afraid to try it since I haven't had any in probably 10 years! Do you just eat it on its own?

I have always struggled with being overweight. After I had my daughter in 2012, I had gained a bunch of weight and was around 260 then. I ended up losing quite a bit of weight and got down to around 215 when I got pregnant with my son. I had a miserable pregnancy with him and by the end I had gained almost 100 lbs. After a few years of some serious hardships and taking care of my kids, I decided it was finally time for me to start taking care of myself as well. My goal is to lose 1.5-2 lbs a week! I also am going to make it a goal to log my food every day. I tend to log it for a few days and then I just stop for some reason. I'm excited to be on this journey with everybody!14 -
@VictorSmashes My revelation is leftover from last time I was losing weight- I know that the beginning is relatively easier, and at some point I'm going to hit a very frustrating wall. Because I'll be smaller, my BMR will be lower, I'll have to either adjust calories or accept way slower weight loss. So I'm anticipating that wall.
The second half of the revelation came this time around- if I have exact numbers for how many calories I burn based on weight loss, and exact numbers for calories I consume by weighing every single one to the gram, I'll be prepared for that wall, knowing my exact stats, and be able to adjust accordingly a little easier than if I had stuck with my previous logging, where I would eyeball it.
I'm still awaiting the revelation that I like to lift and get adequate protein, because that is a thing I know I'm really bad at doing.8 -
@VictorSmashes I do add one packet of Splenda/some kind of 0 calorie sweetener to the grapefruit just to make it a bit less tart. Just had some as part of my lunch and it was delicious!3

@VictorSmashes I have had many revelations on my health/weight loss journey! Too much to type! But I think the biggest thing that has changed this time is that I am not dieting. No deprivation here! I have chosen to make changes that are sustainable and it's working for me. It's a slow journey and I am ok with that. I am basically logging all of my food and the goal is to have a deficit majority of the time. I have chosen to eat healthier, but occasionally have fun! I am slowly figuring out exercise. Again, it has taken a few things to discover what I like. If you don't like it, you won't do it for long. I have found making small changes has worked.8

@VictorSmashes - I've had a number of revelations. I went back through my older posts and found some of them:
That you will actually marvel at how incredibly strong your fat self was, carrying an extra 50 pounds all day every day without complaint. And while you apologize to your heart, knees, and feet for putting them through that, you will also have some respect for your former fat self, for you were much stronger than you gave yourself credit.
That this journey will never end. I'll never be done. The same habits I am doing today to support my weight loss are ones that I will need to do for the rest of my life. The only difference between weight loss and maintenance are the number of calories I have to play with. That was a lesson I didn't learn in my last go-arounds. I thought I could just go back to "living my life". This is my life. And that is okay.
Whatever you do, don't put your life on hold during the weight loss journey. Going out, enjoying yourself and learning how to fit that into your fitness goals is an important lesson - one that you will use a lot during the rest of your life.
Staying on plan has less to do with self-control and more to do with environment control: that is, planning ahead and planning for when things don't go as expected. So you make it easy for yourself to make the healthy choice. If I had to rely on willpower alone, I could never have lost this much weight.10 -

Tomorrow I am going to a friend's house for a monthly dinner that we rotate hosting. I'll be honest, I'm a little nervous. These are situations where I seem to overeat the most and I really don't want to do that, but I know how hard it is going to be for me. We are having tacos, so I mean the most calories will come from however many tortillas I eat. I usually go crazy for salsa, but she is having a salsa that I don't care for that much so in a sense that kind of helps me out? I just want to enjoy myself, but not overenjoy, and that is not a balance that I have found quite yet. I know it's kind of a silly thing to be nervous about, but it's really been on my mind all day. I guess I just needed a place to let it out.9

@torihudson6 taco Tuesday is a real thing at our house, so I actually have useful advice!
I limit myself to two tortillas/shells, with a focus on the meat and veggies. If I'm still hungry, I will have additional meat/beans/veggies over lettuce. I was surprised how satisfying this approach is. That said, the taco meat and shells have a lot of sodium so you may retain water for a few days even though you took a reasoned approach.
And I completely understand being nervous. I have a book club that meets every other month, where the host prepares the meal (the last one was a cheesy enchilada casserole). Eating at a friends is the one situation where you don't have as much say over what you eat. I always try to bring a veggie tray with hummus or yogurt dip as the appetizer so I can munch on those if I feel the need to snack. And eat light the day before, of, and after so I have some extra calories to play with. Have fun! Remember you don't have to do it perfectly. Being mindful counts for a lot!!8
