I assume some sort of cleanup was needed on the other thread https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10787509/coronavirus-prep so wanted to continue the conversation here.
On the other thread, Betty had said:Hi y'all!
Friendly reminder to play nice and treat each other with respect. We know this is a very popular thread at the moment and would like for y'all to keep it civil so we don't have to intervene. Thanks!
Oh and wash your hands

So let's do so
The other thread was help keeping me sane.5 -
Hoping this designation lights a fire under us all.
Washing hands now.
I've never lived anywhere that has had the level of social distancing already encouraged by the government and health authorities. As we get smarter and have access to more information and much more quickly, I'm hopeful that we can stem the increase in cases, such as was seen with MERS and the other SARS virus, and other contagions.
This is a pretty good comparison article from yesterday:

I was shocked when I checked in and the other thread was closed. There's been a little bit of misinformation put out by a couple of posters, but the thread itself had been incredibly civil, to my mind. It made me wonder if, in the case of a pandemic, there will be new guidelines?7

Article highlighting just how much more widespread this could be (probably is) and a missed opportunity in Seattle for earlier warning.

So many mixed messages out there
In my news feed just this morning
"Your phone is a cesspool of germs! Here's how to clean it"
https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/health/a31224352/how-clean-phone-guide/
And
"You probably don't need to clean your phone (but here's how to do it if you insist)"
https://thewirecutter.com/blog/disinfect-your-phone-coronavirus/
No wonder people are confused and anxious.5 -

It started with delays in disclosure by China.
I mean, I can see why.
Doesn't make it right.
I think I got it back in early December. I was really sick, and at the time I even said, "This isn't like any other illness I've ever had. All this coughing." The coughing was awful and it went on for weeks, but I never had a fever that I know of. Then I got a sinus infection for another two weeks.
Luckily I was just really sick for a month. Just prior to that I was involved with quite a lot of people. I'm in Seattle, so it makes sense that we have a lot of people here from China, Japan and Eastern Europe. I haven't been tested, but I think it's been here for a lot longer than the two weeks we are being told. It's just I didn't die.8 -
I wondered when I saw a headline about this the other day. Where are all of these students, with no money and likely far from home, supposed to go?
https://news.yahoo.com/barely-kept-crying-schools-universities-004713428.html0 -
I‘ll probably get the virus. Moving to Germany in April. Lots of infected people there.
Why was the other thread closed?0 -
Colorado is doing the drive through testing like South Korea. Smart. Should be a National policy to limit exposure.9

I think my husband may have had it as well, coughed his head off for weeks but no fever (that he admitted to). Possibly a friend as well, diagnosed with a lung infection after coughing for a couple of weeks. Both around the beginning of Feb. Who knows, it could have been another virus but such very similar symptoms. It's certainly not sweeping through our community so I don't know what to think.3 -
Even though we've been encouraged to sanitize commonly touched surfaces, I had never considered the car until I heard some advice last night to wipe down the steering wheel, controls, & handles after each trip to a public area. Seems reasonable. Will stick sanitizing wipes in the car.2
-
I washed my hands before coming in here. NY currently has the highest number of infected in the USA.3

Other thread is back up.0

Yes, other thread is open. Let's try to keep discussion there.1

As someone who routinely cruises the debate thread, I was thinking the same thing!
My thoughts when seeing all these big events being canceled this month is how long will this need to go on? We still don't know whether warm weather is going to slow this thing down.1 -

If it was early December in the US, it is highly doubtful you had this virus. I am in NC, and I have a student who has been coughing since January. There are many nasty viruses around. Just my opinion.4 -

Well, sure. No way to know, I stated I wasn't tested.
It was just different. I'm allowed to speculate, no? I still think it's been here longer than mid-February. I can't prove it was, you can't prove it wasn't.
Has your student been tested?10 -
I was on a boat that docked in Wuhan in in Oct. Got sick twice w/severe flu like symptoms the 1st time, less so the 2nd x, after I got back.
Haven't gotten tested but it could have been covid19 4all I know. Helped that I live alone and have very little contact w/others. So, if it was covid19, I hopefully didnt spread it to others. No reports of it in my community.
My only precautions are to carry a small pocketsized spray bottle w/70% alcohol in it (that i normally only use when i go2 the gym) to use on my hands, door knobs/handles/buttons and other public surfaces (10 secs is all thats needed to kill most microbes according 2 the cdc) and sone disposable gloves 2 use as I think needed 4 extra protection

But again, not of the fear of getting ill, but of the fear of closed borders, cancelled flights etc.
Toronto - Amsterdam - Casablanca Morocco
Marrakesh Morocco - Paris - Toronto
I can relate.
I am booked to fly to UK from Australia in mid August for my daughters wedding (she lives in UK) and then go on 2 week Europe river cruise Amsterdam to Budapest
Have paid a hefty deposit and rest of money due end of May.
I mean, nobody would fly from Australia to UK for one weekend and boycotting my daughters wedding wouldnt go down well.
But no point going on a cruise even if the cruise itself is not cancelled, if you can't get off and go to places and events.
I know, first world problem - but dilemma to me.

Ha! I didn't know the other thread was shut down for awhile. I didn't see any problems in it. Some people are in a different place with this--they will come around, sadly.
As of today we, in Italy, are confined to our homes except for buying necessities. All non-essential businesses are closed. We are to follow China's example, since it's working. The streets are deserted. There are lines outside of grocery stores. This is a government mandate for 2 weeks, but I expect it to last a month (or more?). My husband already had cabin fever this morning, it's like being locked up with a kid. I sent him to his office across the street. Sigh. It's going to be a long month.
On the front page of one of our newspapers this morning is a photo of a young man ( a soccer player)in the hospital with a respiratory mask on. He said "I thought I was young, strong, and invincible. I was wrong". He also said " All of a sudden I couldn't breathe".17 -

I hope this will be over by August, but that depends on how people behave worldwide. Hugs.6 -

It‘s crazy how many people got infected in Italy. My old mom lives in Germany, def. a high risk case. Just glad I can move there soon and see her. Who knows how crazy things wil get before it’s getting better.
They might shut everything down for the rest of Europe just like in Italy.5 -

It astonishes me that're even allowing lines to form, outside of grocery stores. Standing within a line's no different, than standing within a crowd or being within, any other type of gathering.
With the quarantines that Italy's implementing countrywide, I'd have thought that a member via 1 household at a time'd have to choose a time slot of 15 minutes to shop. To keep even necessity shoppers, via coming into contact with each other.2 -
I get into some deep thinking while I'm showering. My whole thought revolved around the eye-opening thought of how many people am I shaking hands with every day when I sign those credit card thingies at the stores?? Talk about not knowing who you're coming into contact with.3

I 100% believe it has been worldwide since near the beginning. All you have to do is think about how long it can take for symptoms to show and how many people may not even show symptoms. There is no way it did not make its way out of China sooner then we are no seeing. We just didn't know it existed AND were not testing for it. There is NO way to know 100% how many people have it and have had it.5 -

People are require to stay 4 feet (a meter) away from the next person in line. I'll be going grocery shopping in an hour. I'll let you know how it goes.13 -

@ReenieHJ
I thought about this as I touching the key pad when I was using my debit card grocery shopping last week. They don’t have the tap kind yet. We just have to be vigilant and keep our hands away from our faces until we can wash or sanitize them.2 -
