No. That is part of life and something I do normally. When I first signed up....I logged it out of desperation looking for someway to burn calories...but soon realized that I was fooling myself. lol Just part of my life. I now log exercise that gets my heart going....like walking fast at the track, or stair stepper. Not housework......: ) : )

I only log stuff I don't do on a daily basis (like steam cleaning, furniture moving, scrubbing on my hands and knees, etc). I do a small amount of cleaning daily and no, I don't count that. But, if my heart is pounding and I'm sweating like crazy? Yep. I count it.

Yes, but only on my big clean day. I vacuum the whole house, and mop, and I'm moving really fast the whole time, and work up a real sweat, this takes at least an hour. Then I do the rest of the scrubbing, as a cool down. I usually do this on my 'day off' workout day.

  • Yes. I set my activity at sedentry and log most things. I am actually very active most days but there are some days where I am sedentry and it's easier for me to do it that way.
  • I don't because I've never lost weight cleaning so I wouldn't want to eat cleaning calories LOL

    no...

i wouldn't unless you are cleaning a whole house... (like before you move in or after you move out).

depends on how rigorous and what your activity level is set at as well.

I am set to lightly active as I spend the majority of my work day on my feet and walking around, but not doing physical labor. From what I saw elsewhere the average person spends about 2 hours a day total tidying up, cooking, etc...so, if I am doing a marathon food prep in the kitchen, and then cleaning house for an hour I would log what ever minutes are over the 2 hours. I also log mowing my lawn. If you look at how many calories you burn walking at a slow pace it is about the same as you burn doing light housekeeping. My logic is that if I would log going for a leisurely walk, why not cleaning?

I don't track regular everyday cleaning, but i absolutely track anything that is physically demanding and/or for a long time.

I never ever do. Ever. For me it's running or the highway...I typically don't even count the cardio burn of doing things like sit ups, push ups and jumping jacks.

Only if i'm really sweaty. Like if I clean the carpets with a steam cleaner which usually takes 2-3 hours with this house size. Other than that no I don't log cleaning.
  • Yes! It motivates me to clean longer- I love watching the "caolories burned" add up! House has never been cleaner since I started logging! :)

Not the everyday stuff. But once a month I spend over 7 hours doing a serious all-over clean (better than a paid housekeeper is my motto!), scrubbing and vacuum and mopping, with no time left for a real run. That's when I strap on my HRM and log my calories, especially since I get famished afterwards and want to enjoy a well-earned meal without guilt :-) It's what my DH and I call our monthly "Scrub & Grub"!

Nope. I wear a FitBit and know exactly how much I've burned everyday. Cleaning does not add enough calories to count.

  • today I did for the first time ever...and that's only because I was actually sweating and pooped afterwards and wanted to see how many calories that burns.

Only if it's something really out of the ordinary, like a few weeks ago we cleaned our garage including moving boxes all around, etc. I wore my HRM for the time we were out there and used that burn, which was much lower than the MFP estimate. Regular housekeeping I don't log.
  • No

I dont include a lot of things that I do. Dont record weight lifting, yard work, motorcycling or many other things I see others recording. I know all this burns calories but it varies so much so it is hard to record accurately so I just think of them as burned bonus calories.

Nope, unless it's a walk longer than 10 minutes or cardio I don't log it. I log my strength training under the strength option because I don't have to put calories in :-) I don't even put the stairs in at work. They're my little bonuses I'm trying to find for myself. I don't want to eat them!

It's a part of every day life I leave it off, even though I'm sedentary.

you can log cleaning if your set to sedentary and its not something you do everyday if your set to anything else id say no
  • no. I only log in exercise that I consider something I normally don't do. Like running or cardio. I clean and have cleaned my house for years and years my body is use to it and I really don't break a sweet nor increase my heart rate that much. My body probably is not burning many calories if that was the case I wouldn't be in the situation that I am in right now :).
