Yay! I get to do Friday Check-in since I finally lost a bit. I have been waiting for this! Hope this is just the start.
Name: Keri
67 years old, Height: 5'6"
SW: 266 lbs
2/1: 263.6
3/1: 261.8 lbs
4/1: 258
Lowest April weight: 253.8
May SW: 254
5/9: 253.6
CW: 252.8 (5/22)
GW: Onderland 1st, maintain for a few weeks then 150 lbs.
May Goal weight: 249 will probably not make this but hope to make progress towards it despite bday (my youngest's) celebrations and memorial day weekend before the end of the month.
My May Goals are:
1. Get enough sleep and improve water intake Saturday ✔
2. Log weight, food and exercise and stay under calorie goal ✔
3. Get some exercise 6 days a week and up NEAT clean. Try to exceed 150 minutes of exercise a week. lately have had some disruption to my daily weekday schedule. Hope to get back to this. Days with no exercise have been higher at NEAT.
4. Get into the 240s this means my highs and lows get and stay below 255 Hope to make it to 250 at least.
5. Make healthy meals at home. ✔
6. Each week do a SKS feedback on what is working and what isn’t look into what food journaling might look like. maybe today Not really doing this formally but I do think about this and make adjustments when needed.
Water Intake & sleep: I have only made it to 8 glasses a few days but I often pass the color test. What I realized is instead of getting down on myself for not making that I should feel good about how much more water I do drink now than when I was working at the office. I am getting alot more sleep but I give credit to being on temporary furlough.
Weight loss: This is only .8 lbs loss but the difference from before is I am staying near my low and if I vary it is not by much. Last month I didn't lose much until the end of the month. It is like my body is resetting the new weight and then I can have a week+ of more loss. I do not mind a slow loss but my fear is that gain is so much faster the losses can be sabotaged in what seems to be a blink of an eye and getting back the lost progress takes as much time as the 1st time it was lost. As I lose I will be resetting my BMR. What worries me is that to lose consistently I seem to need to eat very near or below it. That doesn't make sense.
Back to work: I found out that the money making end for my employer is starting to open up at a reduced schedule next week. That means that in the following weeks or month they will slowly in phases bring the rest of us back to work in phases. I have no idea what that means for me but I need to think about my priorities now for the time that I have before going back to work:- keep losing, getting healthier and fitter
- complete the training book(completion in next 2 weeks).
- I would like to make some improvements to my home such as decluttering and getting my art room in working order.
- I want an espresso machine, and small pool so I can do Aquafit at home (Just kidding). The later is a dream for now. But not sure when it will be safe to go back to the Y and I need a pool. So it is a dream that is recent brought on by this pandemic. We have a small house and big yard for being in a city.
I will just say that this pandemic has changed our perspective since we are so much more at home and even when we all go back to work it will probably be from home. So home environment becomes more of a priority.7 -
orangequilt wrote: »does anyone notice getting more anxious if the scales go down? I don't know if both are the effect of doing less comfort eating, or whether my body notices the loss somehow and makes me jittery....I've noticed it a few times over the years and I think it's been the route to me eating more to get rid of the anxious feeling. Some skinny person amongst you, tell me it goes away after a while??!!!
I was just thinking about something related to this just before I weighed in today. I was sort of thinking about what I wanted to have the scale say. I realized there was something like anxiety when I thought of the next possible lower range of weight. Like why would a 2 instead of a 3 be scary especially when at the end of 252? I decided I am going to have to work on my mind. I guess we don't partially because we don't want to be disappointed if the scale doesn't cooperate but it was something other than that. For me I do not think this would result in eating more but I think it is a factor in how slowly I am losing. I knew I was going to lose weight any day now. However I think that you are talking here about a bit more than what I am talking about. I think it is an issue that needs to be addressed as we lose.4 -
Let’s try this for the third time. I really need to stop doing this on my phone as I keep hitting the wrong button and erasing everything.
@rhsdancer5 have you been doing more exercise? I know sometimes this can cause a brief ‘gain’ that eventually dissipates for some people.
@KeriA congrats on the loss! I don’t know why weight loss can be so weird at times. Numbers don’t always seem to add up but it does make a difference!
Friday weigh in:
SW: 287.3
5/8 283.8
5/15 277.2
5/22 273.8
My weight loss has been great so far- over 13 pounds since 5/5. I know this is going to slow down soon but I’m enjoying it while it lasts.
My calories while I’m at work have been super low- unprepared for breakfast so I’ve been having ‘just a cheese stick’ or an apple and then low calorie lunches. End up with a big dinner and snack but it’s still working!
A definite goal of preparing my breakfast casserole for work lunches next week!
My birthday is coming up so I’ve decided that I’m going to make a chocolate cake (with diet Dr Pepper- something I’ve made before and is actually still good. Of course nothing beats the real deal but it’s satisfying) with whipped peanut butter frosting. Using pb2 and lite cool whip. I’m so excited!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!10 -
@CupcakeCrusoe Love your NSVs. I haven’t been great at exercise this week either. I wish I started doing Yoga when I was young. I didn’t get it. It seemed really unrewarding to spend an hour trying to do things I couldn’t do. Now I understand its benefit. I also wish I kept up with my ballet though. That I liked. I am going to try it ifwhen I do lose weight.
I think you are right @Rosie3579 that weight loss is often related to dealing with issues the right way instead of using food. When we solve the food issue we have to find the right way to deal with the underlying issues.
@Terytha I’d like you to dress up at least a little for your anniversary. Or to find something that fits and you feel good in. That is the natural reward for the work you have done. I have friends that when I compliment them on their clothes they say it was really cheap at Ross or somewhere else. It will take a while to replace all the clothes that are too big for you but I think that now that you are in normal sizes you will find better deals easier than before.
@AlexandraFindsHerself Last night I made Beef cabbage borscht and was really hungry but it didn’t seem like enough so I asked my husband to make some grilled cheese sandwiches. I did the same thing you just did. I drank water and read my book. It was a great dinner.
@speyerj My sister is tall (5’10”) and thin. She used to wear 14s too. She lives in France so not sure what size she wears now.
@wholebygrace enjoy your long weekend
@torihudson6 take care during this busy time.

Congrats on the loss @KeriA
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on the anxiety thing. I think maybe overeating slows my head down and that's why i do it (apart from all the other reasons we eat too much). So i'll have to get used to a busier head.
@speyerj yes i have also found the fat is protective against sexual harassment but i think in my 50s there will be less of that anyway plus better able to deal with it.
I'll be heading back to australia from london in about 3 weeks, and i'll have to do 2 weeks quarantine in a hotel room, you can't leave the room at all, and they leave you food outside the door. I think i'm a bit anxious about that, can't imagine it. Hopefully it will be a chance to reset some eating habits.6 -

I'm also doing The No Meat May Challenge I've been eating a lot of Beans in Tomato Sauce, Black Beans & Gardein Meat Alternatives Meatless Meatballs, Crispy Chick'n Nuggets & Chick'n Tenders I think they're all really good.
My other Goals for this month are
1) To record my food every day.
2) To try to drink about 2L Water/Day.
3) Try to take my dog for a walk 3 times/week.
As I'm reading over this list I'm thinking of Yoda's Quote Do or Do Not There is no try!
Good Luck all!8 -

Good morning everyone! I hope you're all having a great Saturday.
I think I need to adjust my end-of-month goal. This one pound per week isn't going to get me there, but I keep telling myself that it's a good thing: slow and steady, better for my skin...right?
NSV: I bought a pair of size 16/18 shorts yesterday with the idea that I would shrink down into them over the summer (I've been a 22/24 for years). I tried them on when I got home and they nearly fit! They were tight, but not uncomfortable. I think every pound I've lost has been from my rear.7 -
@cesse47 I saw the Michigan flooding on a clip of the Daily Show, really terrible! This Flood has been devasting! You are an amazing lady thinking of the safety of your granddaughter and getting her out of harm's way! Praying that your dam wall holds strong! Sending love and strength to you and your family!2

End of May Goal Weight: 236
I am on track to meet my goal for May which is awesome! My work reopened to the public yesterday so this week I burned a lot of calories in the mad dash to get everything ready. Things I need to improve for the last week of the month are getting more sleep each night (I've gotten 5-6 hours the past few nights when 8 would be ideal) and increasing my water intake.
Have a great holiday weekend, all!

5/17: 239
5/23: 240
I’m a little surprised! I thought I’d see a loss, but I’ve been hovering in the 239-240 range the last two weeks. I think because I started incorporating regular exercise again that my body is adjusting. So, I’ll just have to be patient! I’m also feeling a little bloated, so I’ll be upping my water intake. Hopefully the last day of May I can have a loss or at least be back at 239.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend!11 -
Checking in:
It was not the greatest week scale-wise. The scale went up every day this week which is odd, and my average weight, high & low for the week are all higher than last week. I am not really sure what the cause is. I don’t feel like my sodium or water intake has been different, and I think I slept enough. I think I am just at a set point.
Other goals:
I got in my steps and had an average of 15,540 steps per day this week.
I did less stair climbing this week than last but did 150 flights of stairs so still more than my 120 weekly goal.
I finished Week 1 of C25K and have enjoyed so far. I am planning to complete Week 2 and then reassess each week whether or not I want to continue.
I only did 1 strength training session this week and hope to do 2 next week.
So what do I need to do differently this week? I need to tweak something.
1. I need to make sure I am 100% with my logging this week.
2. I don’t really record my water intake, so I will do that this week to make sure I am actually getting enough.
3. I still have some processed food in my diet. I have room in my calories for it, but perhaps this is something I need to decrease at this point to continue to make progress. So I am going to try to look at my meals this week to see where I can increase whole food.
4. Strength training - I need to give more of myself to make gains.8 -
This morning I actually had time to sit down and actually think about some things in my life. I've been on this weightloss kick for about 15 years and at one point I was 207 lbs and lost 60 lbs in which I got to 147 lbs. I went to school and put that first in which I gained weight. I don't have a lot of friends and the friends I do have are spread out all over the place. I'm a people person and love interaction with others so I've been trying to communicate with someone in my family, but honestly it is so much work. I've been putting so much energy into trying to communicate with her, find things in common such as exercising and just chatting, however it almost feels like a job. She doesn't answer, she won't text back, I try to be involved with my nephews, but I get the run around. So this morning after thinking about all this I honestly have lost sight of what's important. I lost the importance of me. I put so much time into trying to be involved and being accepted where it bothers me to no end that I haven't been fully committing my time to myself. It has literally drained me. So today I told myself that I'm going to focus on what's important and that's me and the people who truly care about me. I want to put more time into exercising and my schoolwork. So today is a new day and I realize I need to change some things about me. Honestly, I need to worry about the things I can change instead of the things I can't. Then when she does decide she needs someone or points out that I'm not involved with her kids, I can simply point out the truth. So today I'm taking my life back. I will succeed in this weightloss and I will succeed in getting my doctorate. Sorry for the long post, but I just needed to vent.14

@procolorer Happy birthday!
@orangequilt my husband and I were having irritation problems with our wedding rings so we took them off and stored them safely. A few weeks later I told him he needed to put a ring on it unless he was okay with other men hitting on me. I was at a café waiting for him at the dentist. A man mistook my looking through the window at looking at him. He came over and suggested we go together to another café since he didn’t like the music at this café. I was in my late 50s or maybe and about this same weight. Hopefully we are not worried about sexual assault but I am sure you are very much attractive still.
@supersparklyk nice NSV
@Tarsan37 Yes you are on track. Take care during this busy time.
@torihudson6 I think water is a great idea
@Rosie3579 if you can’t lose you could be a a set point but if you are trying to gain it means your set point is a higher weight and your body is trying to go back up to it so it will be harder to maintain or lose.
@gorgeous2343 Taking time to think things out never is a waste of time and it sound like to me you got some good insights. This is what this thread is for. I am a verbal kinesthetic learner so I need to talk things out or at least write them out to learn and figure things out or keep the lessons learned. Right now is a hard time to make friends except online so table that for now and take care of yourself. There will be a time when you can do something about that. Even so be yourself and take care of yourself in the process.

KeriA i wouldn't mind that so much, i wouldn't call that harassment if someone respectfully asks you out, it's more gangs of lads when you're walking home alone at night. But that tends not to happen at my age and weight, plus i don't go home late by myself often. Luckily i'm happily partnered so life is pretty good on that front.5

Goals for May:
1) Reach my goal weight!! - Check. Updated my goal weight to 175 - maybe by the end of June I'll get there.
2) Keep logging - Check
3) Get 10000 steps/day - Check - been on a streak since April 3rd!
4) Finish a 9 mile run - Did it twice. Second time was harder. Today was a "rest" week - only did 5 miles, but next week is 10!! Yikes! Learning that there a big difference when you get past 7 miles. I need to increase my carbs before the long runs and maybe add some fuel along the way.
5) Stay well - Check7 -
@KeriA Thank you for replying, it's nice to know someone was listening to me. I turned to the thread just to have interaction or talk with others because the friends I do have seem so busy or so far away to talk.
As for yesterday I had WAY to much salt and let me tell ya I feel like a puffy elephant. I'm hoping today that I can get on board with eating. I think eating is my biggest battle. Yesterday I missed lunch and over ate at dinner. So today I need be better and eat a few times a day. Here's to a new day!!5 -
Dee here! How is everyone doing! Just checking in. I can’t believe I have lost 8 pounds in 16 days! Hope everyone has a great weekend!8
-
@deegriggs28 doing well here too! Thanks for asking! Congrats on the weight loss! You are doing great!
@speyerj Congrats On reaching that goal!
Sore today from a huge gardening session. We had to pull all the weeds from our garden area and planted over 20 plants!! We now have 3 apple trees, one peach tree, a pear tree, a blueberry bush, 3 different kinds of grapes, 8 tomato plants, at least 8 sweet pepper plants, poblano pepper plants, banana pepper and jalapeño pepper! Also planted more parsley and basil!
Hoping for grapes this year off our oldest grape plant. 🤞 probably won’t get any apples this year but pears look good again!
I’m getting a canning kit from my parents for my birthday! Excited to try it this year. We had so many tomatoes last year we were giving away pounds of them.
Today looks like it’s going to be a hot sunny day. I can’t wait7 -
That sounds like one tasty garden @procolorer!2
