May: 12 days AF (I actually kept track in my journal, just didn't come here. I just counted it up- that's not that bad. Could have been so much worse!

1/1 AF days so far this month
I also just want to thank you all for being here. I know coming here tonight and knowing I had this community and ability to check in here, helped me avoid having a drink. Looking forward to supporting you all in your goals this month!

Good morning. @shorepine I am very sorry to hear you are losing your job. And having to deal with taking care of everything while your husband is traveling. Do not beat yourself up, it could have been a much higher number for May since there were 31 days in the month. June is here now so focus on this month. I am right there with you.....I messed up my May accountability but that does not mean I can't turn it around. BTW J-A you nailed it.8

Last night when I logged into mydrinkaware it was like visiting an old friend. I had not logged in since March something. I could not even go back through and fill in for those uncalculated days, I drew a blank.
Recommit to an past good habit.

Good morning, all. I started out on the less alcohol thread in January 2018, and both this and the Sober Squad thread have been so helpful for me over the last two and a half years. Although my goal has not been total abstinence for life, I just wanted to share that today marks one year since I have had an alcoholic drink. Thanks so much to everyone here who continues to share struggles and successes, you all continue to offer me much motivation, and food for thought.10

Hi all! I’m in for June as well. I plan on half the days of the month to be AF, the other days to only have one. Already June is off to an inauspicious start because I was in a bad mood yesterday and had two glasses of wine to feel better. Totally the wrong reason to drink, I know. Also, I just can’t handle two drinks in a row! My weight has crept up too, so I need to knuckle down again.8

@doxum Thank you for sharing your Take a Break program details: "Rachel Hart is big on "allowing" (as opposed to caving in or fighting) the urge to drink. To allow it in, then sit with it until you figure out where it's coming from and why. She's all about, if you're going to drink, do it with intention and mindfully." Makes me feel better about sharing my intention to drink in a few weeks on my vacation with my daughter. Congrats on your success using that takeaway to help you moderate your drinks. I will toast one up to you on the beach and hope to share in your success in those moments by using the more mindful approach.
@Shorepine Girl, you have your hands and mind full. I commend your conscious decision to put your children above your urges--such a good mom! My heart goes out to all the pressure you are under and I am so glad you are here with us.
@forestdweller1 Love that you are on your way to breaking your 4 mo PR for AF. Concerned about your "celebration or sorrow" projection in 5 months. Hoping for the celebration for you.
@ the several peers who have gained weight, even partially because of drinks/drink induced food choices. That was/is me. +10 became +20 became ....+36 before my "wake up" call. I could no longer hide my bloated belly, puffy face, tired look... That was 18 AF days and just under 9# lost ago. Each small step encourages me to take one more. I still have a very long way to go, but I really like the road I'm on with all of you.10 -
Thank you @MissMay and @sklaw31. You are right, May could have been so much worse for me. It felt like I was drinking everyday at least a little bit, so I was actually surprised when I tallied up my journal and saw I spent that many days AF. I mean, that's almost 2 weeks! So, could have been worse.
I felt so good this morning when I woke up, thanks to having an AF day yesterday. Did yoga right away. I'm going to try to avoid the siren call of a glass of wine, tonight too. One of my goals this month is to find other ways of dealing with stress. Daily yoga helps. So does just going outside, sitting by my garden with a cup of tea or coffee, and doing nothing but sitting and observing. I've never been great at meditation, but I find I can spend a long time just sitting with a hot beverage, looking at my flowers and noticing the birds.8 -
not a great start... I seem to have a problem going more than 2 days in a row. Yesterday was rough all the way around, so I poured some... today will be AF.10

Had one glass of wine while prepping dinner, but today it choice, not a reaction to being upset/ irritated/ sad. Glad I stopped at just one. Also played tennis today and burned a ton of calories, so I am finally under calories, even with mochi ice cream for dessert! Yum!8

Almost caved. I'm a grown adult. If I want a glass of wine I can have it. Started down to the wine cellar...and stopped. Maybe a clear head would be better if things got out of hand down the hill. JIC. Quickly grabbed an AF beer before I changed my mind.
6 hours later, I still want that wine. Going to bed without alcohol.

Still AF today. I think the only thing saving me from the bottle tonight is my statement, posted this morning, that I would be AF today, and most importantly all the Hugs received from you all! Good night, tomorrow is another day.9

AF 2/2 for June and 11/13 on Take a Break. @sklaw31: Tell you 'friend', the ginger beer is N/A, so what's to hide? Except it is a little pricey. I use the zero-calorie beer and the 5cal/8oz Ocean Spray Cran-Cherry juice (delish!) for mocktails. I drink them all day. DH recently ask me, as I appeared with yet another refill in my glass, "Is that stuff good for you?" Moi, "No alcohol, almost no calories, and it tastes great. Would you rather I be drinking all day?" Truth be told, abso-f'ing-lutely YES! I would drink adult beverages all day, everyday, were it not for the side effects: hangovers, massive fatigue, significant weight gain (I'm feelin' you @sklaw31), dead brain cells, pickled liver cells, skin aging faster than it already is, broken blood vessels on face, bloating, engaging mouth before brain (I'm sure that's never happened to any of you ), falling down (no elevator shafts though @MainelyLisa), repeating myself, thinking I'm hysterically funny, repeating myself and poor sleep. Did I mention repeating myself?
@FeelinFooFoo: Thank you for your kind words. I'm a sucker for a buddhist icon. I, too, am starting my summer exercise train-up for hiking tomorrow. It will be short & easy to begin with. Taking my bear spray ( lookin' at you @globalhiker) although the huckleberries won't be out until August. Why bear spray? I hear this loud bang outside this morning and I go to check it out but don't see anything until I look directly down from the second floor deck and lo and behold, there's a big, brown, furry rump pulling the garbage out of the can. Looked like maybe a two-year old bear. They get kicked out at 2. I had opened the garage door this morning and took trash out that had fried chicken in it. I clapped and yelled at him/her and it ran off. And we live close in to town. I'm going hiking on our local ski hill - definitely bear country.
Before I forget (again). @MissMay: thank you for the suggestion to try a protein shake instead of creamer in my morning coffee. I like it and I'm getting the extra protein to boot!

I am Dawn. Turning 60 in September.
I live in SE BC, Canada.
I started on this thread November 28.18 - at that time I was having drinks every day. That first AF day was very hard! I vowed to have 1AF day per week to start, then progressed to 2AF days per week etc.
My goal now (that is working for me) is 16-20 AF days per month. I have been keeping within that since last October. I am comfortable and happy with that goal.
I have never ever been able to exceed 3 drinks or I throw up. There is moderation for you : - P
I log in here every day with a running calendar/journal of the month at a glance. It helps me.
Monday June 01.20 - AF
Tuesday June 02.20 - AF - Very long, very stupid day, my first back working for a company that I loathe. This is why i always designated Tuesdays as my drinks days in the past. However, I am coming toward the end of a 100 day weight challenge thread, and that is my motivation to stay "dry" for at least the next 5 days. In the previous round of it I lost 1.7 pounds in 100 days. Hoping to lose 2 pounds this time. (I know, painfully slow, but better than gaining, and it really does get more difficult to lose weight with aging.)
2AF day out of 2 days so far.9 -

You undoubtedly have so many skills.
Many companies now are hiring people to work from home...now that through necessity they have had to try that model and have seen that it worked so well.
Change is tough, but nothing gets better without change.
I really believe that you will leap into something much better than what you are doing now, which is leading to the lay-off.
Pulling for you. You've got this.

Try cutting back in a different way. Since 2 days are difficult to be AF. Vow to make the second day half of what you might normally drink. Little tricks to fool our drinking brain. Just a thought.....😊7 -

@dawnbgethealthy sorry to hear that has always been your outlet on Tuesdays to have drinks. Knowing and dealing with difficult places has been a trigger for me alot in the past and now I have to seriously bite my lip on those days to keep from losing it.

0 drinks/2 days.....any specific brands of no-calorie ginger beer you folks recommend?
@looneycatblue: it helped me tons, to put forth my goals repeatedly and post it here....then I felt like if I already declared it, I had to do it....
I also found that after an AF stretch, as each day went by, my willpower got stronger.
Chocolates saved me often! If I run out, I mix 1/2 tsp honey with 1 tsp crunchy natural peanut butter, so good, seems to shut up the wine devil.8 -
@Doxmum, so far the only bear I ran into looked like a Grizzly (it wasn't) and it was at my former cabin's backyard in Arizona. It was really big, not like the black bears at the zoo. This one was actually brown in color with some parts of the brown fur being much lighter. It looked like a Grizzly without the hump, that big. And he came to visit around noon which is not normal.
I called the cops on him. Of course they laughed and said Game and Fish needed to come out. Called them and they told me it would go away. Since then, I am very scared of bears!6 -
Good morning from the east coast! This is my first ever MyFitnessPal challenge and first time contributing to a community message board. I’ve had a problematical relationship to alcohol in the past and recently got it somewhat under control, limiting myself to weekend drinking only (I.e no alcohol Sun-Thurs. I’m now ready to try a 30-day alcohol free challenge. Monday I had cravings and gave in to 2 glasses of wine. As of yesterday 6/2 I’ve been AF and will do my best to continue this trend throughout June. Looking forward to joining you all on this journey!10

@globalhiker The only kind I have ever purchased (because I didn't know the product existed) is Bundaberg (diet) because I only had two brands available at my store of choice. I hesitated to buy diet because diet soda get some flack and I wasn't sure if the same type of sweeteners are used. (still not sure). That said I agree with @Doxmum and @MissMay that ginger beer is expensive. However, apparently there is a not too-tough way to "brew your own" which I may try since the hubs is leaving today and I will need a "hobby" to keep my focus on AF. Hopefully it won't ferment all over! (That thought makes me nervous.)
Also, read some articles that suggests Ginger beer really is good for you, comparatively I'm sure, but interesting none-the-less.6
