    Good for you!!!!

I woke up one day back in August and decided that was "the day" and today's weigh-in says I have lost almost exactly 6 stone - at a rate on average of 2 pound a week.

I did not walk at the beginning and is something I have only started doing in the last 3 months and started with a similar distance - about 1.5 miles. Today I can do 6 miles and... and this for me is the biggy.... I can get to the top of a particular hill that has always taunted me. That is a shorter walk, about 3.5 miles, but extremely satisfying.

I still have a way to go but can see light at the end of the tunnel and more so, having come this far I know I can get there.

So make that first step, as that is the key one for us all.

Come to my MFP Larger Losers Group:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/133315-larger-losers

It is full of people who are working on losing 75 or more pounds of weight in a sensible and sustainable fashion.

I am willing to mentor you from there with the goal of teaching you to be your own coach.

To clarify I mean to help you become your own weight management coach not a fitness coach.

First of all; know that you are not alone in your struggles. This is a weird, crazy, and hard time for so many. Today is my first day back after being away for 7 months from MFP. There are so many resources on here & so many amazing, uplifting people on this site that are very supportive.

I’m not really any kind of mentor; as I struggle myself, but I’d be happy to be your friend on here & help support you on your journey.

Good luck! You can do this😊

Listen to this podcast - Feel Better, Live More with Dr Rangan Chatterjee Episode #108 (Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything by BJ Fogg Ph.D)

Might help make your 'mountain' (as I'm sure it seems like) doable.

    I'm routing for you...

So did you get up and walk? Never think what you're doing is I significant....2.5 km is better than just laying in bed or sitting on the couch.

I find having small goals helps me a lot. It really feels good when you reach goals no matter what they are

Hi so I just started back last Wensday and taking small steps is great. MY biggest change is to stop being negative about my life. I walked half a mile, not I only walked half a mile. Drank 50 ounces of water, ate better and healthy snack all positive. I we all understand it can be crazy now, but if you start with taking care of ourself(eating better and walking) it will help you to get healthier and feel better. I will also bea positive friend if you would like. Carol from usa/MA

Just about everyone who has succeeded in this journey to healthier and better living has started where you are now. Look at the success stories; anything is possible. Doubts are natural. You've taken a huge step in simply thinking about where you are and where you would like to be. It shows hope. A lot of us with weight issues (as well as in the general public) also struggle with depression/low self-esteem. You are not alone. Remember, you are a beautiful human being who deserves happiness and self-care as much as any other person.

I often suggest Maitri meditation to people who are overcome with negative emotions, I have an anxiety disorder so I've had my share of mental health issues. I tell people even 5 minutes a day of telling yourself that you are awesome is a great start. People say "I'm not awesome.", but you really are awesome you just don't see it yet. :)

    Five phrases:
    Love yourself
    Be kind to yourself
    Forgive yourself
    Be patient with yourself
Have the ultimate compassion for yourself

Five minutes a day, repeat those phrases. I do. Be well.

Howdy Matt! I have struggled too, and decided 2 weeks ago I was done being where I am and have recommitted to life. Due to mental issues, I gained 50 pounds in the last year. It's awful, but I am turning it around. Would love to be a supportive friend if you are in the market. I have experience as a fitness instructor and such and can help you in that respect as well. Take care! Shoot me a friend request if you'd like.

Hi Matt, I really feel for you. I think a lot of us can relate to how lockdown has just made everything tougher. You’re not alone in getting into some unhealthy habits. I’ve not got as much weight to lose as you but I’ve still struggled with consistently eating well, and finally feel like I’ve commmitted to doing it slowly and patiently with some small changes I can manage. It sounds like you’ve got some great reasons to want to get healthier and I hope your family are on board with your plan. Sorry I’m not a PT or useful mentor, but happy to be a friend if you want a supporter. Sending you a virtual hug.

OP I'd suggest going with NovusDies. A very competent person who's been there, has got the knowledge, and so, could really help you get started. I've been here 7 yrs, and valid people are gold. Good luck.
