Cyberian_Wolf wrote: »I actually didn't fall off. I stayed with the program, and exercised harder! What changed? I am reaching menopause. I was taken off my pills, and I couldn't stop the weight, no matter what! My doctor looked at my diet and said, anyone who eats like you would be skinny. so, basically, I always felt like a loser because my body hs never in my life really cooperated. You know when I was finally thin? When I exercised 2 hours a day as hard as I could DAILY! This was 1 hour of fierce cardio, and 1 hour of fierce weights. And after 2 years, I was finally 135 pounds! and I kept it off for 7 years. then...I suddenly got really really tired and I couldn't keep up that routine. Since then I've been trying to find a middle ground. But I can't! and not reaching meno, it's become impossible. I mean, it went up, and it just won't come down. I'm now 172 pounds. I don't overeat, I don't eat bad foods, it's all organic, and low calorie. yeah, there are people like me who, cycled 100 kms a week, at 30 kph, and my heart rate goes up to 170, and stays at that level for an hour, and nope, my weight will NOT come off, and I got everything checked, I have no thyroid problems, not health issues, it's just a stubborn body. anyway, I decided that because I lost 20 pounds on Jenny Craig, I would simulate that except using organic foods. So wish me luck!
Sending some sympathy/empathy your way. I realized long ago that I can only lose weight when I have the time and mental energy to make it my primary focus. My one successful, long term time where I lost weight I, like you, was doing a few hours of exercise a day. Eventually life happened, I cut back (although still exercising) and slowly I put nearly all the weight back on.
Now I’m peri-menopausal and back here starting again (at least I stopped a couple of kg before my previous highest weight rather than sailing on past it so I’m thankful for that).
This time (thanks to bad knees combined with strict lockdown- currently in week 14) I’m trying to focus on food more than exercise. So I wish both of us luck!

Someone commented further up this thread about how different the shape of regained weight is. I am still 10kg above my target weight, but this morning I did my my belt up on the tightest hole, which I had punched when I was at 75kg a few years ago.2

Oh my, I know how it feels. I lost 50 pounds and have gained it all back. I am struggling to get motivated. I am exercising regularly, but my eating is out of control.
This is so me too.....I just can't stop and I don't know why. In my heart I really want it but I still keep eating those devil dogs....
Makes me so mad at myself. I just feel disgusting.6 -
First post on MFP communities so go easy on me!
I lost 38 pounds in about four months and maintained that for two years. When I got pregnant I was 102 lb/ 5'2. I gained 60 pounds. So the day I delivered I was 161. I'm down to 128 now but wanting to get down close to starting weight, or at least in the 105- 110 lb range as a goal.6 -
I’ve been using MFP on and off for 8 years. I’m not here for sympathy but my life has been a yo-yo of emotional trauma and correlating weight gain. I had lost about 40 lbs 4 years ago but when the father of my children died my mental state went off the deep end. I went on meds to gain back some sanity and gained about 30 back, then I had other issues went on a different med and gained additional 15. I’m currently at my highest weight ever. I was using Noom but it absolutely did not motivate me so I’m back to MFP. The only time I’ve failed myself is when I gave up so I’m not going to beat myself up about currently circumstances. Try harder than I did the day before, that’s all any of us can do.12

I am in that boat as we speak. I managed to reach my highest weight ever yesterday. This was after successfully losing weight. Part of it may have been this blasted quarantine, but I definitely could've done better to prevent gaining so much weight. Gaining so much so quickly is wreaking havoc on my body. Swelling and aches have become my norm and it's making me miserable. I am making a turn around, thank goodness. I can't keep this going. My poor body has given me enough hints 😂 You absolutely can do it (again). We all can and we all will. I'm rooting for you!7

Yes, hence why I'm still on MFP
220-150-210-160-180 ugh lol
Nice to see I'm not alone7 -
In 2011, I lost about 50 lbs, ending at a goal weight of 180...I'm 5'5, so that was still a size 12/14 or so. But that's sort of where I like to live - I like how I look, I like what my body can do, I like how I feel in my skin...and I like not having to STRESS about trying to maintain a eight that is 50 lbs lighter than that...I want a middle ground where I can work out hard, wear my clothes, feel good..where all my joints work well...and I can still eat a cheeseburger periodically without it crushing my soul.
I kept it off for a few years, gained 20 back when I got divorced and maintained there for about 2 more years and then got pregnant (thank you, failed Paraguard!). I gained EVERYTHING back and then some. Between pregnancy and 15 months of breastfeeding (Which has caused weight gain every time for me), I was up almost 60 lbs from my original goal weight.
I've used MFP the entire time...just didn't follow the calorie guidance (obviously) and stopped working out. I started using Healthy Wage in addition to MFP in January and made a wager to lose 30 lbs in 6 months...which seemed totally reasonable and would put me back about where I was when I got pregnant with my youngest. I found that to be so damn helpful, honestly...I really wanted to win my money back. And I did - I just got my payout, It cost me $150 for the 6 months, but my "prize" was about $420....so I got it all back and then some. I'm down about 35 lbs now and starting to feel like myself again, and I feel like I've learned some really good lessons this time....about losing weight slowly and allowing myself to "live" at the same time as I'm losing weight. The first time through I lost very quickly but I think my primary focus was on my weight and the number on the scale, and it made me crazy. I did it in a physically healthy way - just diet and exercise, per MFP, but I think it made me an emotional mess...and I think it was that that I couldn't maintain long term. Too much guilt, too much worry....too much obsessing over numbers. I've tried a million times to get back on track - every Monday I had a new plan. and by Wednesday I would fail.
this time feels better - Ive been working out 5-7 times a week (Les Mills on Demand is my jam), no more than an hour and no less than 35 minutes. I work a sedentary job, so that works for me. Gone are the guilt ridden 90 minute Tae Bo workouts at 10 pm. I don't cry if I gain a lb. I don't cry if I gain 5 lbs. I weigh and track frequently and I've learned that my weight fluctuates far more than I thought it did. I've learned about my eating habits and where my weaknesses are. I still have 20 or 25 lbs I'd like to get rid of, but I'm in no rush at this point. This time, the weight isn't about my college reunion, or a dress I'd like to wear, or some other upcoming event. Its not to impress anybody, or anything. I just want to be able to enjoy my life again. NO more crazy days where I eat nothing but vegetables. I try to eat "normal" food....I generally skip breakfast (it seems like it just makes me WAY more hungry by lunch) do a low calorie (300-400) lunch and then eat a normal dinner...and sometimes that's a cheeseburger or fries or a pizza....and sometimes it's just normal real person food - pasta, a rice dish, soup - whatever.
I think the kicker to all of this is finding where your soul feels the most comfortable...with what foods, a what size, in what clothes, and tailoring your routine to suit that in way that is reasonable to maintain. Its really made a WORLD of difference to have this kind of a mindset this time.12 -
I had lost 100lbs over the course of 18 months, and then in the last 2 years, I've gained 30lbs back. I'm not too hard on myself about it because I know what led to it.
It started with a groin injury, then a couple months of bronchitis which led to the development of asthma. That was the first year. I managed to find the right medication combination to manage my asthma, fully over came the reoccurring groin injury, but then I started back to Nursing School. lol. Somewhere in there my should started bothering me and got progressively worse and fast! I had to medically withdraw from school this past Spring so that I could have surgery on my rotator, a couple of days later my Grandma passed away, followed by my youngest being quarantined for Covid-19. Then, my world collapsed. Two days after my daughter came off of quarantine, my son was killed in a car accident.
So I'm not over hard on myself because the last couple years have been tough, 2020 being the worst.
I've started back slowly to training, meal prepping, and overall just increasing my strength and endurance. My PT did retire to focus on her restaurants (Clean Eatz) but I do have an appointment with someone else that she has highly recommended to get a body scan and to allow me to start again. I know that I will get rid of those 30lbs and after that, it's only 20lbs to my ultimate goal weight of 135.
I can do it. So can you!16 -
Lawdy, yes! I can sooo relate to this thread! I lost 65 lbs. on MFP back in 2011-2012. Got a knee injury and gained a bit more than half of it back. Then spent a year or tow yo-yo'ing...lose, gain, lose gain...(considering all that weight loss, I should be hanging from a charm bracelet. lol), but I wasn't logging! I believe being accountable for what I eat helps me the most, so I re-joined MFP in January. Being age 60, though, I find it's harder and much sloooooower to lose, so I've only lost 12 lbs in 7 mos, but at least I'm not gaining!
NEED PALS, so please friend me!5 -
I’ve been using MFP close to 10 years. After I gain back weight I have found It makes me feel less depressed if I open the reports tab and make a chart with all my weight data. When I zoom out to that view the ups and downs seem insignificant. I just see the long trend with the graph line moving down 50 pounds over 10 years. Try it yourself and I hope it makes you feel better too!4

I am going through this now. Two years ago I managed to get down to my goal weight. I’ve since then gained it back. I recently started back and decided to start using this app again. Feel free to add me!3

I've talked about it long enough. It's time to get serious. After losing over 100lbs and actually feeling skinny I've put back on 60. I miss wearing all of my clothes and feeling confident. Why are we so ambivalent about this? We'll feel better, look better and be happier!! I hope that MFP can keep me motivated. It was my salvation in 2015.
Feel free to add me as a friend. Daily support keeps me focused:)4 -
I lost 80lbs and over this quarantine have gained 20lbs back. Now I'm just stuck on getting started again, have to kick the soda habit.. AGAIN ugh. fun times but I will not gain back all of that weight so the work has to be done.3

That's exactly where I find myself. However, I am losing now and had lost just over 5.5 kg of the ca. 15kg that need to go. And then over the weekend I splurged and gained 1kg again.

Not Alone... I lost 44 pounds in 2012 and have slowly been gaining it back due to indulging in old habits of alcohol, fattening foods and snacks. I have gained 23 of those pounds back and feel so defeated and sad that I did this to myself. I don't like any of my clothes anymore, i find myself sitting around the house more (mostly because of COVID) and i can't find the attention span or the motivation to do the things I used to love. I used to workout 5 days a week and even had a trainer. Now I'm lucky if I do one workout in a week. I used to spend time outdoors everyday in the summer, now I find i enjoy sitting on the couch watching Netflix. I need to pull my head out of the sand. Perhaps even find some anti-depressants as well.8

I lost 110 lbs in 2009-2010 going from 330 lbs to 220 lbs. Gained that back and more after I "fell off the wagon." Started up again at the beginning of 2019 and I've gone from 387 lbs to 271 lbs so far since then.
I feel you on the gaining more than you lost !! 250 to 150 to 320
Well done on the loss so far !!!4 -

Ditto! I lost over 100 lbs about 7 years ago. Gained 50. Having a difficult time with self-loathing. Have been back at MFP for 4 weeks and have lost 6.5 lbs. Slow going, but at least the scale is going down. Definitely in need of a support group!!5 -
Same boat, I was really close to 200 lbs. about 7 years ago and got down to 127 lbs. in 5 years but now here I sit at 181 lbs. and man it's a hit to the ego but I started saying 3 good things about myself everyday so I don't hate on myself to much and make VERY reasonable goals to hit and so far it's working great!! (lost 6 lbs since May!!)7

Over the past 15 years, so basically since I have been an adult, I have been up and down. I do have the benefit of being tall so my healthy weight range goes up to 184 so I just caught myself this last time. I feel the best in the low to mid 160s so 8-13 lbs left to go this time.8 -
