Saxenda does not work

Is Saxenda expensive?2

Manchester4, I get you! Some of these comments are infuriatingly ignorant. I'm in the same boat as you! Counting calories, running 5 days a week, but no fat loss. My GP and cardiologist suggested Saxenda. So far, after 2 weeks, zero change. I'm really disappointed because my doctor thought this would help my body process things better. People saying it's just an appetite suppressant don't know what they're talking about!6

I read a bunch of stuff about Saxenda before noticing this was a necro thread. So for the benefit of new people who might be reading, this is from the prescribing info for Saxenda:Evaluate the change in body weight 16 weeks after initiating Saxenda and discontinue Saxenda if the patient has not lost at least 4% of baseline body weight, since it is unlikely that the patient will achieve and sustain clinically meaningful weight loss with continued treatment.
According to the manufacturer, it doesn't work for everyone, but four days of using it is not long enough to tell. As far as it being a "bad batch" because the OP didn't experience nausea and so on, not everyone experiences the same side effects - in fact only 39% of users had nausea, so, more than half of users do not experience nausea. However, it is fiddly stuff which goes bad if it isn't stored exactly right in the correct place in your fridge, so it does seem possible that a Saxenda pen could have gone bad.
New people, you are not magical unicorns, and it is not possible to eat at a deficit and not lose weight. If that were possible you should sign up with NASA for the trip to Mars; it would save them figure out having to carry food for astronauts because you could just magically eat nothing. Some people have metabolic differences which means they need to eat LESS than other people, but every single person on earth has to eat to live, and will lose weight if they eat little enough. However, multiple studies have found that almost all cases of people who claim to be eating very little and not losing were actually cases of people not being truthful about how much they were eating. Obese people are terrible at counting calories compared to normal weight people. One study which closely observed dieters in a controlled environment found that the "slow metabolism" people who "couldn't lose weight no matter how little they ate" had higher metabolisms than expected, but they only reported an average of one third of the calories they took in.13 -

I don't know if it's covered health insurance in some states/countries but in Australia it isn't and I believe it costs about $400AUD per month.0 -

Exceptionally expensive.. off the shelf price in the US is roughly $1200/month. My insurance covered it after my doctor called and got a pre-auth. With the mfgr savings card, I pay $25 per month.
Many people get it out of a shop in Canada for about $600/mo.
It absolutely helped me... it got me eating less, with counting/measuring/logging... it's just another tool to help in weight loss, it does none of the work for you. But I've lost 80lbs.
SW: 237
CW: 159 (I've gained 2lbs on purpose with weight training recently). Was down to 157.1 -
Wow I have never seen so many answers that have nothing to do with your question. People really want to sound like experts, don’t they?
If I’m hearing you right, you are saying that the drug doesn’t seem to reduce your hunger, which it is intended to do, thereby helping you achieve that deficit you need.
Same here. I’ve only been on it for a week. My endocrinologist explained to me that my hypoglycaemia is being caused by abnormalities in the function of my pancreas and this causes intense hunger and makes it almost impossible to lose weight. There is a metabolic effect too so simple calorie counting isn’t the same for everyone. Huge limitation of the approach used by calorie and macro counters. At the end of the day you have to solve what works for you, and just shut out everyone else.
But back to the question you actually asked. I have been on this only a little over a week. At first it seriously reduced my hunger. Last three days it has done nothing to my appetite. I just started the week two dose yesterday and was hungry all day. Will see how it goes as I progress through the doses.
I understand your frustration. Maybe talk to your doc about other options. Mine gave me a list of things we could try. They’re not all appetite suppressants. Some actually increase your metabolism. Hope you figure it out.2 -
It’s quite possible the OP won’t see your response since their question is from 4 years ago. 😉

I would REALLY love to get insight into the pattern of brand new accounts bumping super dead threads. No "hi I'm new" or any other activity, just a fully formed response like in the middle of a conversation, but to something that they had to go and dig up on purpose.5

I think it comes from Google searches. I bet if you Google "Saxenda does not work", this thread will come up. And then people create an account so that they can comment.12 -
Can’t believe some of the condescending comments towards Manchester4. I have also been on Saxenda for 6 months with little weight loss. No you are not alone. The medication which advertises great help for losing weight obviously does not work for everyone. I hope you have success with your efforts. I would take my question to the Saxenda message boards. People are understanding and they will stick to their Saxenda experience rather than belittle you for bringing up a very legitimate question.3

Why are you resurrecting a 4+ year old post. Are just looking for things to be "triggered" about?10 -
Why do people worry about a post being resurrected? We are all here chasing information. Happy that I got to read through the posts, there was actually some decent information.10
-
resurecting threads is one thing, I suppose - but answering to OP's or previous posters who are long gone is rather pointless
Since the thread has been resurected - I work in a medical centre, Reps give free samples of Saxenda and some people try it.
My observation - most people do not continue with it.
Most likely reasons - it is too expensive, they get side effects like nausea (I jokingly say if it works it is because you feel too sick to eat and you cant afford food anyway ) they dont like injecting themselves, they notice no or little difference in weight results.4 -

I kinda hope you might be alone in terms of this thread and OP isn't still taking Saxenda four years later. 😬😂😁3 -

There are mistakes that people commonly make that cause them to not lose weight that we might be able to spot if you change your Diary Sharing settings to Public: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings4 -
What does it matter if the thread is 4 years old!! I for one have found the thread quite relevant.
Honestly, some people need to learn to live and let live1 -
I don't see the problem, meds are not going to magically work. I have gone from 400 lbs to 154 lbs. Then I got pregnant with my daughter and gained a lot of weight back. Now that I am 44 years old, I realized that 20 years of not eating breakfast or lunch has literally turned of my metabolism. I asked the doctor for speed, but he gave me Saxenda last November and I have gone from 265 lbs to 215 lbs. Not quite as much as I would have liked, but it is still a deficit of weight. I am using Saxenda, eating heathy when I do eat, and trying to stay as active as possible. You can not just jam yourself with an injection and expect that to be the all magical cure, it does take some work on our parts. Hey guys, we are "all in this together" right.2

Which problem are you seeing or not seeing?
Lots of discussion in this thread over a long period of time, not sure which problem or non problem you are referring to
and, no, not eating breakfast or lunch has not turned off your metabolism - how would that even be possible??
If Saxenda helps you, that is great - bottom line though is still calorie deficit as it is with or without medication.
I'm not convinced these med's do anything useful in the long term - but perhaps for some people they do.5 -

If your metabolism "literally turned off", you'd be dead. Down-regulated? Maybe. For most people, any such effect is minor, as a percentage of total calorie requirements.
Congratulations on your weight loss, regardless: Whatever works, works. Good show! I'm glad Saxenda helped you, sincerely: There are many paths, and finding the right one for ourselves is a wonderful thing.4 -
Like manchester4, Saxenda has had zero effect. I'm now into my 6th week and still exactly the same weight as when I started; my appetite is exactly the same. All I have to show for this medication is $774 less in my bank account and lots of bruises. I won't be starting the 3rd month course. This was not a sample from my doctor; it was brand new from the pharmacy.2

This crap doesn't work. Two weeks now I've had zero side effects zero weight loss zero appetite change. Might as well be water. Wegovy is the way to go0
-
Participants in a study had Wegovy injections for 68 weeks and lost an average of 15% to 18% of their body weight. The average for weight loss drugs already on the market is 7% to 9%.
Of course Mr. Google doesn’t know everything, but I’d like to lose more than 15% of my body weight in WAY LESS than 1 year and 4 months.
